Hi, I know this is an old video and you have answered many questions, so forgive me for asking just a couple more. It appears that that the gantry is only driven on one side and that it is triangulated to avoid deflection, it is an elegant approach. Did it cause any issues? Also, were the supported 20mm rails an issue in terms of keeping them clean and rolling smoothly? Would you do anything differently if you built it now? Thanks

I can understand your disappointment but I think exactly the opposite.. and that's a compliment for this awesome machine. Everyone can theoretically make everything (whatever you call your home) but it takes patience, knowledge and a strong will. I like people pushing their limits, learning how to built their dreams even if it's hard and they allways succeed at last. You won't if you keep on looking it your way, sorry for saying.

I've a touch plate on my CNC mill which is straight forward. This seems run a similar macro each time the z-axis lowers. Post G-code processing required to add this macro? On long cuts its not going to touch off so will crash if the metal warps?
@JohnHarmon12 жыл бұрын
looks like you might need to add a slight delay for the pierce (depending on the thickness of the material) before your torch starts to move?

i also have a hypertherm plasma cutter and i also want to make a cnc table for it. i see that you are using the hand torch as the cutter here. so i am wondering if you had to make any modifacations to the cutter itself to get it to work without having to buy the machine torch? thx

@BoostedRT hmm these are different motors X Axis is 60mm (3 Nm) motor which should be enough. The torch is controlled relay switch connected in parallel to the switch from the hand held torch.

usually in the same way that knowing how to use a backhoe brings you work, most often a neighbor will want something made, or you'll be approached by someone about taking on a contract. usually this comes about just by spreading the word that you are capable, however it's not very hard if you advertise to start doing this full time with the right environment. if all else fails build cars, motorcycles, and anything else that moves.

Sergey Romanov its a laser sight, like for a firearm.also called red dot. www.amazon.com/Vokul®-Tactical-Laser-Pistol-Picatinny/dp/B00X356WZQ/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1432250098&sr=8-4&keywords=laser+sight+cross+hairs

Sergey Romanov It is a cnc cross-hair laser module you can use a normal laser pointer though like a dot if you just run a test with the cnc and use the test ti align the laser dot or cross.
@DieselRamcharger9 жыл бұрын
***** if you want to get froggy, its called a laser diode module. they aren't for cnc machines and they aren't cross hairs. they project a line, he used two of them to intersect. jameco electronics and others sell the basic module for about 10 bucks, or you can just buy one for a firearm for the same price and it will come with the lenses already

If I want to get froggy ? I wasnt trying to get froggy with anyone but I suspect firearm lasers are a little more expensive ?

Guillermo Gutierrez it has a conductivity sensor placed around the nozzle. every time, before it cuts, the nozzle goes down to the work, touches off and records its height, then begins cutting. Torch Height Sensor is what they are called.

Very nice, how much power does it consume for this material? Would this cutter head be applicable for cutting Fiber Cement Boards up to 3/4 or even 1", The material is able to be cut like wood but really is very abrasive and if cut this way (ie, router) creates huge amounts of dust, Your experienced opinion is valued
@9Strychnine9 жыл бұрын
Plasma cuts just about anything metallic/conductive, I have made fabrics conductive by soaking in a conductive medium for cutting but the results are never as good as other means. Also, rocks will explode when heated that rapidly, if there are tiny tiny stones in the cement, you run the risk of micro bursts, that's not counting how or how not flammable the fiber is. Good luck. Maybe try a dust collection system or something like a wet tile saw?
@elzzon9 жыл бұрын
For cement board (and also stone), you would be better off using a water jet system rather than plasma. Plasma is amazing for ferrous metals but I would not try to use them on materials that don't melt.

As a helpful hint, If you read the plasma manual, or visit Hypertherm's website, you will find that all the cutting in this video was performed backwards. Best quality plasma cutting, due to the clockwise swirl of the gas, is achieved when interior features are cut counter-clockwise, and exterior features are cut clockwise. Give it a try, and see how your cut quality improves.

Nice Job! I have a small 25 amp Plasma Torch. I have built a couple machines like routers and converted my Lathe into a CNC machine. So I'm familiar with that part. But I have no idea how to make the mechanism for the trigger? Does Mach 3 support a torch? Or do you need some kind of software to generate gcode that will work with the DXF files? It's all a mystery further down the rabbit hole for me. Would love to build a small 2x2 or 4x4 machine for my little torch and then maybe get something a little more powerful later or just buy an industrial unit when I can justify spending that kind of money for production of some ideas. Thoughts?
@Ropedandhogtied8 жыл бұрын
You can use coolant on/off for the trigger signal through a relay.
@tna2me1978 жыл бұрын
Well I use Mach3 Torch and it has a command for torch on and off through the relay that I set up. Trouble I'm having though is when the torch is on it seems to be transmitting a frequency that is crashing Mach 3 ??? very strange. I'm going to shield the cables better and try a different computer. Maybe move the control box for the torch to a different location as well.
@EditingApprentice7 жыл бұрын
TNA2Me did you get it figured out? I've heard that the high frequency starts on some plasma cutters can mess with electronic components. Not sure if this explains Mach 3 crashing though
