Several years ago, I had no transportation and lived in an area of the California desert where setting out cross-country in my wheelchair just wasn't feasible. In other words, I had zero access to stores and ended up buying everything online. BulkFoods(dot)com became my best friend. I learned to pinch a penny so tightly Licoln hollered for mercy. It is an acquired skill. Thanks for the reminders!

I've run across videos of yours before, and I never commented on them, but this time, I just have to say - you do a very nice job! Keep up the good work. Lots of people are watching. I'm going to do what you did. I have a dehydrator, and I thought it would be nice to add dehdrated blueberries and strawberries and peaches that I did. Add that to those mixes, and whose better'n you ! Have a great day

Amen on bulk buys. I've gotten to where I try to find everything in bulk. As for the jar sealer, I finally broke down and bought one and MAN do I love it. Got half gallon Ball jars and made quick work of 50# of beans! For powder, I put a coffee filter over the powder in the jar and bobs your uncle, worked like a charm. ;-) Thx for the pancake mix recipe! Gonna give that a shot on payday. :-)

YES! We pay between $5.35 and $6.35 for 4 litres of milk..or one Canadian metric gallon..BUT..That is because our cows are NOT allowed to be treated with growth hormones...so we pay a higher price..but to me it is worth every penny...The radio show? you mean the homestead honey hour on Thursday nights? et potato .... or maybe canned pumpkin. But I've also dumped into it spinach... sometimes even a smoothie . Super easy. For my kids when they were babies I would swap out 1/4 of the flour for iron fortified baby cereal. It was a bit more delicate but we all ate them! I kind of want to dehydrate some sweet potatoes to make sweet potato powder for my instant pancake mixes now! Something wierd I do... is it bake our pancakes . Because if I bake them I can get a couple trays done in 10 min.... rather than standing there.... Flipping them one at a time... and even burning them. Just a busy mom hack if you or anyone is interested . 350 for 10nmin usually does it. You wont burn becausd its on a timer. Just Scoop it on Parchment paper

We switched over to the dry, powdered milk. I mix it up as needed so we are not wasting gallons of it. So many times we have bought regular milk only to get it home and its already soured. I use it mainly in baking/cooking and not for me to just drink. Hubby has a bit in his hot tea, but there's so much less waste!

Oh, okay. the jar sealer attachments aren't expensive -- I had to buy the wide-mouth one separate and I want to say it was around $10. When I compare that one-time cost to the cost of the bags, it was worth it. PLUS -- lids used once in the canning process seal the best on the vacuum sealed jars I've found -- bonus! I've never heard of the Sorbent sealer, sounds pretty versatile. I don't use mylar bags in my extended pantry though.

I love you vids! I need to do more bulk buying, dividing, and conquering. : ) Okay, got a question for you: I notice you use a lot of the vacuum bags. Why not use canning jars for your dried goods? They're re-usable -- hose bags are so darned expensive. I do buy the rolls that let you make your own size vacuum bags. But, I only use them for meat in the freezer. Otherwise, I use quart canning jars. Just curious.

Did you ever get your sorbent Sinbo vacuum sealer? I ordered one from amazon a few weeks ago, I love it. I did pay for the canister one it was 39 dollars more but you don't have to worry about if food gets sucked up or not, though it does take up 5 more inches of space on a counter top. I can even seal regular cheap freezer bags. I have to reseal the sides to make them a certain hold. I really like it. Amazon was about the same price as their website, but their website I didn't see the canister thing. I buy things periodically on sale. I got a 25 pond bag of rice for 9 dollars the store was discontinuing it I need to vacuum yet. You don't dehydrate yours?

Why is everything more expensive in Canada, I mean you all have dairies right? Is it because most of your stuff comes from UK (if it does I mean)? Also, is it not better to do the dry beans, etc. in the lunch bags & sealers like you just did the pancake mix vs the jars which could possibly break if there are tremors or something not to mention to heavy to carry in a bug out situation? I was wondering how sealed dried goods like beans would store over canning jars. Just learning here. Thanks!
