Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine kzbin.infoUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older.But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.

@TheVessapaperimuumio8 жыл бұрын
I find it amusing how many people are commenting about the bow being "left handed" or "shooting from the wrong side". I imagine wood'n tech is aware of the common orientation and practice of shooting bows. However, the commenters seem unaware of the fact that archery also works the other way around; it is not unheard of and was not invented yesterday. It makes a lot of sense, is very fast and sometimes quite practical. There are several youtube videos on the subject, have a look.

The "pulleys" are supposed to be *cams*. That is the axle is supposed to be off center so that the radius from the axle to the outside of the cam where the string tangents toward the string hand varies as the cam rotates. This allows the pull to start out difficult, then ease up as the leverage (the radius is a *lever*) changes as the string is pulled further back. Think about the different sized gears on a bicycle, the idea is similar. When you fire with proper cams, the string speeds up toward the end of its stroke which better matches the acceleration of the arrow. This effect is directly related to why the string is hard to pull back at first, then gets easier.
@mrkiky8 жыл бұрын
+Marty G Well that's just a more advanced concept. The pulley model's only benefit is that you can have a longer draw while the limbs don't bend as much, but it doesn't provide letoff. It's still classified as a compound bow though.
@mgalyean8 жыл бұрын
+mrkiky, mmkay. Well, I learned from you that non-camming, round-pulley, compound bows are actually sold, but upon further research I found that these are a very small set and are typically for youth bows used by many different kids with different draw lengths. They are not an early concept from which advanced eccentic/cammed bows evolved, they are a devolution to address a market at summer camps and such. According to the *original* patent, the *original* compound bows had eccentric pulleys, or cams. www.google.com/patents/US3486495

Marty. The first compound bows made used pulleys or more properly 'wheels' . Fella by the name of Jennings built them They were the ugliest things but the worked well enough.I never shot one of the first models but I did own one of the later model I Jennings. A big, heavy, bulky bow but none-the-less a good shooter.

+Paul “Busy Fool” Wheeler. I agree that encouragement is a good thing if that is what you are doing, but to categorize "critical feedback" as "bad comments" that should be ignored is not going to help him make a better bow. Which I assume is a goal the maker is pursuing. Until the internet gets over the idea that anything but gushing praise without any critique is "bad" we are doomed as a society.
@foxthebirdkiller54828 жыл бұрын
+Marty G He never "categorized critical feedback as bad comments, so there is no need for your obnoxious comment. He told the dude to ignore the bad comments and he said himself that there are "faults in the design", so you'd have no reason to assume he was telling the dude to ignore critical feedback. Unless, of course, you wanted to make yourself look like a mature prominent member of society. Please take your head out of your ass.

Good effort. Shows your brain and hand creativity. Keep it up..... ...a quick hint...when using the hack saw, drop the rig as close as possible to the vise holder. This will be a bit safer and give you less vibration. (Most important safety, as the blade will have less tendency to jump out and cut you.)

seems like the bow lost some power ....
@mohamedfaroukbalouli78099 жыл бұрын
KraljCorvin he can't shoot a fly with it
@TonyyStarrkk19949 жыл бұрын
KraljCorvin It did. 1 pulley cuts the work load in half, and retains the draw weight of the bow, but you have to pull the string back double the distance in order to achieve its proper draw weight due to the pulley. Adding the second pulley cut the work load by 2/3rd's, but now he has to draw it back triple the distance in order to achieve the proper draw weight. That is wildly unrealistic, even at one pulley and double the draw distance because arrows simply are not made that long. He should have weakened the outer portions of the limbs, and adjusted the string tension accordingly in order to work properly with the draw weight he was going for. Compound bows are feats of precision engineering, not just slapped together roughly like this, and I doubt he took any of these variables into account lol. So yes, it did lose power, because at first he had to draw double the distance to achieve full draw weight, and after he had to draw triple, though it seemed easier, it only lowered the draw weight because of the finite length available to him due to the length of his arrows and arm span.

1. the arrow rest has to be on the other side of the riser. 2. cut the arrow rest up the bow more so the arrow has enough space to bend. If you watch someone shoot wooden arrows in really slow motion, you will see that due to the speed its being shot it will bend up. if it cant bend up it wont stabilize and so it wont fly as straight.
@JeanDeBaillEngineering9 жыл бұрын
thank for the advice . for now i am using wood dowels as arrows so they dont bend that much and for the arrow reste side i always thought it was on that side :-)
@unshdhGbzbs9 жыл бұрын
yeah any wooden arrow will flex depending on the size you use. your size in this video will flex rather a lot so i suggest making it at least. 4 inches bigger. mainly so you can see the target better.

I still don't know how to make a compound bow

Your bow is a little weak I would try using a better wood for the flexible parts. I am looking for a method to make a wooden compound bow without modern tools. I live in an apartment so I don't have access to a lot of space for making things let alone the electric tools. Raduka also made his out of skis but his was made with what I think was aluminum for the weal/cam and wood + plastic for the limbs. (had to look online to figure what the parts were called lol) He made his with drills, hacksaw, files and a grinder. apparently his was a 55lb draw. I am trying to identify the best wood for making one.

Good attempt, but not a 'compound bow'. A compound bow uses cams, not pulleys. The cams are offset in cycle, so that a heavy draw weight breaks over and is easy to hold and likewise accelerates the string as it cams back.
