Homemade Cuban Link Bracelet (from copper wire)

This is how you can turn single strand electrical copper wire to make jewelry, in this case a cuban link bracelet. The steps are the following:
-Strip the insulation
-Straighten by twisting both ways with a drill
-Clean remaining residue
-Coil around a rod (the diameter of the rod should be more than twice that of the wire)
-Cut the coiled wire lengthwise to form individual links
-Assemble links then closing them using two pliers
-Weld them shut (I am using a TIG welder but you can braze them together)
-Twist the whole chain to form the desired "twisted links"
-Flatten with a hammer
-File down one side of the chain to get the cuban look
-Sand and polish for looks and you are done!

When i read homemade, i wasnt expecting that i'm gonna need TIG welder to make it. I basicaly opened video just to see a way to conect rings when you have just simple tools to work with.

Looks really good. I’ve been looking into making one myself. Have mostly seen 2 wires twisted at once in either the forward or reverse motion on the drill to create your desired pattern but I like the free and not molded fit on your design. For me, I’d go without any coating, green wrist and all, simply for the added benefits of copper making direct contact to skin.

You can coat the copper with something like Renaissance wax. Protects and keeps it from reacting

You shouldn’t. It creates internal stresses in the links. Just yank on the free end with pliers after annealing the wire

@@gaiiaxyz2870 Yes I believe that I have. I made a bracelet out of copper using a 3 to 1 ratio. 2mm wire into a 6mm inner diameter. I think 5.5mm interior diameter would work well too, but have not tried that yet.

You don’t need a Tig welder. You can also just use a jewelers torch and solder.

You don't need a TIG welder you can use what's called a mini torch you'll have to buy these small tanks one for oxygen the other for whatever kind of gas you're gonna use think you can use nap gas. I just got a mini torch today. Haven't used it yet and it was only 45 bucks but I already have my own tanks and if you order it also order what's called blowback protector that's included in the 45 bucks

He used 10ga copper wire. But u can use 12ga for smaller chain links or 8ga for larger chain links. the torch he used is called a TIG welder. Hope this helps

What setting did you set your Tig to when fusing the links?

I use 30-35 amps. Once the link get red hot(2 seconds) it completely fuses it all shut. You can do it at 50 amps if you want to just zap them, I don't have that level of foot pedal control. Just make sure the coppers really clean before you tack it because any impurities in the copper will weaken that link and when you go to twist the chain the link with the impurity will break

I just use scrap 16 or 12 Gage I'm going to try one using two wires twisted together to make the links. depending on what size you want it just grab a drill bit and use the shank you can go 1/4 if that's too small go 3/8 I'd go on the smaller side for a feminine bracelet little larger for a mans

@@zizoclever That was awhile ago and now I have a few successfully. If I remember right I think I made the link to round causing them to slip. Making them slightly oval shaped they seat and stay in place when twisting. Also pull it at the same time you twist also keeping it seated.

@@zizoclever I used sliver solder, since normal plumbing solder is to soft, I only have a stick welder so that wouldn’t work on the the links, at least not well. And yah I used ground down pliers, as to not mar the copper, and squished slightly. I also eventually made a jig to wind the links around and I made that oval shaped so the links were automatically right.

Looks like 10 gauge. Twisting it in the first step straightened it, thinned it, and softened the copper. Heating the copper and then quenching it would harden the copper in later steps.

If this is a serious question you probably shouldn't even attempt to do anything like this but if it's a serious question you put it into the Chuck of the drill tighten the chuck and squeeze the trigger don't do it in reverse or the bracelets will turn out backwards
