That plastic should last a while. It sure lets light in. Good to see the ole girl up and milking. Looks like the 806 is earning it's keep.🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻

Seems to be holding up good. I'm sure glad to have the 806 back 👍🍻🍻🍻🍻

We gave 500 mL each of cmpk iv, 50% dextrose iv, and 23% sub cutaneously for milk fever. We milked 750 head of mostly Holsteins.

Nice curtain idea. Cheap is good. How is it that it's way harder to find that neck vein on some cows and others it's like hitting a garden hose first try. I've only had one milk fever but every Jersey we've ever had likes to get Ketosis. We just pretreat Tulip now and it seems to work.

If you know a cow historically goes hypo-calcemic, there are calcium boluses that you could give well ahead of when she historically goes down. Or use 23% sq ahead. Watch for when the bubble disapoears and redose!
@hartungdairyfarm07138 ай бұрын
I do give some boluses to problem cows, but for the most part I usually only have a couple milk fever cows a year. I have had some chronic cows in the past I would give calcium sq. Thanks

Nice video. I always thought if you could cross a Holstein and a Jersey and get a heifer that milked like the Holstein and had the butter fat of a jersey you would have it made.
@hartungdairyfarm07138 ай бұрын
I used to have some jersey crosses, they were a little small for my liking, and the bull calves were really small and never brought much money. Some people love the jersey crosses but they just never impressed me. Thanks

That's what I used to do each year for the covered alleys to the parlor. Clear plastic with wood lathe to hold it

Yup.. temporary/permanent.. got a few things like that around here 🙄 We get a case of milk fever every year or two. Had one old cow that would go down in the feed barn every year.. she was a 2 bottle gal. Always had her head up and alert, just couldn't get up.. first few calves she was fine, but from #4 to #12, she would go down 2 weeks to the day before calving.. Happy New Year Matt 🥃🥃🍻
@missourirob77129 ай бұрын
Did you have to treat her the whole time till she calved, Ed? I've had a few that would need a bottle/ bolus every day until the baby arrived..... Fortunately its usually only a day or two. My dry cows are roughing it this year.
@GosselinFarmsEdGosselin9 ай бұрын
@@missourirob7712 no, but always took 2 bottles. When the last few CCs went in, she would stand up like nothing had ever happen..
@missourirob77129 ай бұрын
@@GosselinFarmsEdGosselin it's all time and money for sure....... Seems like it's always the better cows with issues.... The ones that are just keeping the numbers up never have a reason to load them up on the trailer.... Other than she's not very good.😂
