HOMEMADE DOG FOOD RECIPE + STEP BY STEP WALKTHROUGH BY TYE FRIIS

Welcome to the video! Today I'm going to be bringing you guys along with me from the grocery store to the kitchen. I'll guide you step by step through picking out the ingredients we'll be working with and explaining some of the benefits of feeding your animals this way over using kibble. I've linked everything I use down below along with the recipe I use to make 11 pounds of food.

- Ground Beed 5 1/2 pounds

- Russet Potatoes 4 pounds
- Sweet Potatoes 2 pounds
- Carrots 5 oz
- Green Beans 5 oz

I’m a big fan of homemade dog food. My senior dog was recently diagnosed with some health problems including canine diabetes. He has issues with poultry and the only dog food available without poultry for diabetic dogs is ridiculously expensive. On top of the vet bills (including once a week glucose testing) and the insulin and needles, I just couldn’t afford the $100+ for special dog food. Also I’ve always felt a lot of dog food is overpriced crap. I’m trying a diet right now that’s extremely beginner friendly that’s 1/3 lean meat (most rec chx but if u have a dog with issues with poultry then drained ground beef works), 1/3 brown rice & 1/3 veggies. (Broccoli, green beans, spinach, pumpkin, cauliflower, are great high fiber choices). I also add a tbl of low fat cottage cheese and a sprinkle of flax meal for calcium and omega 3’s. My pup’s blood sugar is stabilizing.

I watched this entire video with my almost 5 year old and she was very much in love with Lucy and Mayhem but all of the sudden she says “he’s beautiful and he’s my boyfriend, he loves all the animals” ❤️

Saw this today, literally had dog food in my online Target cart but then I chopped, cooked, blended what I had at home... crossed my fingers and watched as my dog happily chomped the homemade mixture up! Added Boss Crew Coconut oil. The video was helpful, BTW.

I've had dogs my entire life but didn't realize, until recently, how nasty awful kibble really is & I have always bought high end kibble thinking I was doing the best for my dogs. In January, my 6 yr old pittie had surgery to remove 2 Mass Cell tumors *Cancer* and fortunately we caught it early enough so the vet was able to remove it all...thankfully. My pittie I lost before this pup died from the exact same cancer and I spent over 20K for both surgery & treatment which only gave her a year. The whole year of treatment was stressful for both myself & my pup...And both pups were the same age when cancer was diagnosed. I have been wanting to get my pups away from kibble but didn't know where to look for a healthy recipe, with quantities & directions, from someone I can trust. You are the BEST & have amazing timing!!!!!! 😉

This looks so good! Do we need to add any supplements like calcium and such? Some people/vets discourage cooking for our dogs because they don’t think it would be balanced. What are your thoughts?

I have a 2 yr old female Jack Russell Terrier/ Dalmatian mix. I rescued her back in February on this year. Just recently started cooking her food because the ingredients on store bought anything is just mind-blowing. Beanie is not a fan of carrots but has been loving roasted pumpkin puree, gotta love fall for the gourds😂

@@TyeFriis There are mix reviews about potatoes. Some say potatoes are ok depending on the quantities. Some say it’s the skin, there is a very thin green layer between the skin and the potatoes that can be toxic. They say never ever feed raw potatoes to dogs. I dunno, I can’t find a definite answer. I was hoping you knew. Anyways I love love your videos. Hopefully I didn’t offend you.

Oh you are talking about Solanine. That indeed is a compound in ‘Raw’ potatoes that’s toxic. Same with tomatoes, you don’t want to feed raw. Like any other items of home cooking, you want to make sure to cook all items. Cooked potatoes are great with skin and all. Anything raw needs to be understood to a much higher level… hence why I’ll never put out any recipe based, raw feeding videos. There’s nothing but controversy and confusing dilemmas on that front.

Awesome tips! Thank you! We are def gonna have to try. Usually my husband cooks them chicken, steak and chops everyday. We have been known to throw a Boston butt in the crockpot with some potato’s and pumpkin and shred it for the meat portion. Ours are some seriously picky eaters. This is practically the same food I bought for my picky eater from NOMNOM, it's very fresh food, but it costs a fortune. I am definitely going to try making your recipe for my baby girl (just not on the same scale, she's 15 lbs LOL). So thank you very much for this!

Oh I understand that for sure, deal shopping for this stuff is harder but a big win! I cook this for 7 dogs plus my wolf hybrids so I cook on a HUGE scale compared to most Home cookers haha

Thank you for the recipe. My Luna is a 1yr 8 mon chihuahua mix. She’s bigger than most chihuahuas. She about 15lbs. She’s the size of a terrier. I got her when she was 3 months old and she was tiny. I had her on Pedigree for puppies, which was supposed to be like mother’s milk for 18 months like the bag suggested. Then started her on Pure dog food with chicken, rice, and peas. After that she started to scratch and itch like crazy and nonstop. I thought it was a skin issue, so I was trying all kinds of shampoos and I even soaked her in coconut oil. Nothing was working. Her skin was raw, so I took her in and we found out she’s allergic to chicken. Vet suggested Authority Sensitive Stomach and Skin lamb or salmon flavor. She didn’t like the salmon and she barely likes the lamb. Vet gave me a new brand of shampoo that has been wonderful. I’ve always given her fresh veggies and fruit, which she prefers more than dry dog food. I just never knew where to start on making her food like this. There are so many websites saying yes dogs can have this but another says no. Like I read that potato skins aren’t good for dogs, but you give them to your dogs. It’s all so confusing because I don’t want to make my dog sick or kill her. So thank you again for sharing this with us. I appreciate it so much. Luna was punked by her sisters during newborn to 3 months when eating, so now she doesn’t stay in one place. She grabs a mouthful then goes to another area to eat it. Is there a way to stop that? I’ve tried kennel feeding, but she just won’t eat in there. When I got her, she would snap at me when I placed her food down, so I nipped that in the butt real quick. Took me 2 days to correct that. Thank goodness.

I think most chihuahuas do that with their food. They will take a little mouthful run to another room, drop the food and then eat it there or hide it.

Honestly best bet for the veggies is dollar store if you have one around. See when they have the new deliveries and try to get in on it. Saves a ton and is all the same. Ours is always bone dry unfortunately 🙏🏻 the meat is the tricky part to plan ahead and find the proper deals

I have always made my own dog food, very similar recipe to yours. My question is how do you keep the plaque down on your dog's teeth Tye? My vet says he also needs dry food for this. I do purchase a grain free kibble for supplemental feed.

We use my harder chew Boss CBD treats we make here to cut plaque down. Always good to have something to act as a brushing tool for the teeth!
