I understand the use of full sandpaper squares and those cut into fingers BUT I'm not clear on what the brushes (from kids broom) do for the sanding?. Unless it's just to help ventilate the sanding dust into the collector opening. Excellent build and design with dovetails and a VFD with rheostat knob smartly put at user station! Thanks for sharing!

I see these in workshops around me but I always wondered... why? is it beneficial to use this sander instead of other kinds of sanders? like a belt sander or the vertical drum sander you used to sand the inside of that hole
@bellevuesnekkeri
@bellevuesnekkeri 8 жыл бұрын
These are mainly to sand outside curves, and objects with complex shapes. they are much more gentle than a belt sander, due to the fact that they dont have a solid backing. For instance sanding a live edge on a board or log, this one is perfect for the job. But definitely not the most used tool in the shop

Hi Thomas. The reason for the broom is to provide backing support for the abrasive. If this was not installed, the sandpaper would just lay flat and put no pressure on the piece to be sanded. The drawer slides is installed to be able to pull the unit out to sand larger curves and pieces, without the dust collection box obstructing. Hope that answer your questions

With the risk of being taken as a troll(excuse me if so), i have to ask, Isn't a VFD a bit of an overkill for this application ?
@bellevuesnekkeri
@bellevuesnekkeri 8 жыл бұрын
That is not trolling, that is a legitimate question. The main reason is that I do not have 3 phase power in my shop. So when the time came to dismantle a machine at work and the electrical cabinet had 25 VFD´s in it, I salvaged half a dozen before it went to the scrapyard. These make me convert single phase power into real 3 phase, and it gives me the advantage of speed control. along with full acceleration and deceleration control. And it has a cool factor as well, at least in my eyes

Mooi gedaan.
