One could also use the ram wedge mount in the and of the monopod. Lots of mounting options. Hopefully some ideas. Please Like, Subscribe, and Share.

Just made my own. On mine, I wrapped the end of the Scotty mount with gorilla tape before I inserted it into to top so there wouldnt be any play before drilling and screwing together. The entire bottom (where the foot was) of mine came out, which was perfect for me. It was easy to screw a 1/4 bolt into the end, which was nicely tight, then I put a tiny screw into each side. Used a $5 mini ball head that I can mount any camera to or my GoPro. I like having the possibility of either. Thanks for the video.

+Shannon DeFriese Awesome Shannon! Like the creativity. Thanks for sharing your experience with the build. Another cheap mount can be PVC pipe and Ram wedge mounts in the ends.

instead of scotty mount adapter on bottom. Prehaps can use a RAM Suction cup and socket adapter on bottom. So it can attach to any flat smooth surface. But I wonder what's the best way to do that?

Only problem is suction mounts don't stay on most kayaks well. Only suction mount I have seen that stays out reasonably well is the Jackson kayak camera mount which has a large toilet plunger style mount with inner hook that connects to handle. I have made another one using ram components but not a suction mount. The ram ball mount produced more bounce and didn't provide as smooth of video as the Scotty mount connection. That is why I recommend the Scotty mount connection shown in video. After all what good is a camera mount if the footage is unusable.

This is such a great video! Any ideas on how you could make this be able to freely rotate similar to the railblaza 600 boom?
@KayakDIY
@KayakDIY 6 жыл бұрын
Grind the star nubs off the Scotty post and it should rotate freely. Also could use ram ball wedge mounts instead of Scotty.

@@KayakDIY thanks for the reply and ideas! im currently looking to see if i could fit a Railblaza adapter nut on the end, that should give me the free rotation im looking for, but then i would need a different hinge mechanism than using the scotty/ram.

My cheap kayak didn’t have any mounting points so I mounted a RAM ball to my kayak deck which gives me plenty of flexibility.

I got all the parts in to make this camera mount and the Scotty bolt doesn't reach through to the other side of the Scotty gear head? :(

+WillzOutdoorz Thanks for letting me know. I will review parts list links and ensure that changes haven't been made or happened. Strange.

Any chance you might look into doing something similar to this using the cheaper SJCAM 4000?
@KayakDIY
@KayakDIY 9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for stopping by Scott Martin This telescoping camera pole is compatible with the SJCAM 4000. In regards to the underwater charging setup we show it would be a bit more difficult for SJCAM owners. It would probably require a micro USB ribbon cable from the side charge port to the back...then convert to a standard round charge cable.....then run through a stainless steel PG7 cable gland on the back housing which would be a tight fit without an extended back door like GoPros. We have thought about doing a video on it but am afraid it might be outside of most people's comfort level and it hasn't been requested enough. We have a lot of other projects that people have requested at this time. If you get a start on doing it and run stuck we would be happy to offer suggestions or help. Sincerely, KayakDIY Team

How were you able to thread the ram ball bolt into the nuts within the monopod tubing?
@KayakDIY
@KayakDIY 8 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Quinn the nut inside wedged in after the threads on the ram ball bolt caught....Then it simply tightened. If the nut doesn't fit you could grind down the outside to fit inside the monopod. You could also likely get away with using something like a JB weld epoxy to hold it in. Lots of options. You could use other attachments but that was what I chose that worked well for me.

So is the ram ball JB Welded? I understand there are nuts on the backside, are those just a safety incase the JB weld comes loose or are the nuts actually the only thing holding the ram ball on?
@KayakDIY
@KayakDIY 8 жыл бұрын
+Tyler Caldwell I did JB weld and use the nut but probably lots of ways you could fix it to that end.

I must have the wrong gear heads because two together don't let the threaded knob go through...even took out one of the nuts but it still won't reach...
@KayakDIY
@KayakDIY 9 жыл бұрын
You can still make it work. Just get a through bolt knob and a longer bolt to run through gear heads. The through bolt knobs are common in woodworking and have used them a lot for kayak track mounts. Toilet bolts and those knobs make easy and cheap track mounts.

Do you use the remote to turn your GoPro's on when you want to make videos or do you turn them on manually? thanks

+James Taylor I use iPhone app for total control. The GoPro is powered via battery in hull or on deck of some of my kayaks.

Thanks KayakDIY! I made one like this about a month ago. Excellent mount! I used it on my maiden sail voyage on my Hobie Outback. It has great camera angles, is VERY versatile and makes every angle and distance for selfies possible for a yak. THANKS! Watch it in action here...kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4CzfZmVqdyHkJo
