why did you not use 1/2 rod with 1/2 inch PVC pipe over the rod with a little longer metal rod and washers on the end of the PVC rod to hold it in place?

Be advised Home depot's 1/2" alum rod measured .520" and I ended up removing the .020" on my lathe...

Great idea. I would imagine you dont have much "tilt" available before the milk crate digs into the dirt. How is this working out for you after having it a while?
@duanebledsoe75662 жыл бұрын
With the axle in the lowest part of the crate possible you’d actually have quite a bit of tilt. 10” wheels could produce as much as 4” of ground clearance as long as you have a solid area to drill through to keep the axle low on the crate. But if you didn’t have a solid place to drill through (as my crate does) and you had to just use one of the diamond shaped holes instead, you’d likely still have 3” or so of clearance. On a 13” wide crate, thats 6-1/2” from axle to end. With 3” or more of lift, you’d have a little over a 30° tilt before the crate touched ground. Place the crate closer to center of the kayak and I’d say the kayak would touch before the crate would.

Worthless, to low to the ground. Tires are 3.99 each at Harbor Freight. Thought you said you had all this stuff but you went and bought stuff?

I did have all this, but if I didn’t show where to buy supplies I would have people like you complaining about that too. 😂

Why didn’t you just cut it off instead of blithering.

Not to knock because it's a great idea. I would be concerned with the square sized bottom catching on the ground if you were to pull it on some uneven ground or areas with rocks, sticks and what ever may be in the path. I pull down paths to lakes and ponds that have no boat access and this would defiantly not work for me. However on flat surfaces it would probably work well. It is a nice cart no doubt with great storage ideas for the straps or whatnots!

Just mount the axle further back on the box, if it turns out to be a problem of course

Just buy a C‑Tug Kayak Cart. I've tried this along with all the others that you can buy...The C-Tug is the absolute BEST and it's definitely worth the money.
@KayakDIY8 жыл бұрын
+Frank Stein C-Tug doesn't roll well over rocky terrain due to plastic wheels. These types of wheels do much better in my opinion. C-tug is definitely a great cart though.

KayakDIY Mine works fine on rocky terrain, sand, and the marsh as well...plus it's REALLY light and comes apart like this one too. Yours is good if you want to save money though. In the long run, I wish I just bought the C-Tug originally. Anyway, good video. This type of cart worked well for me until I started to want to keep my milk crate permanently attached (strapped down) in the kayak with all my gear and rod holders, anchor, etc. .

I use my PVC cart and this wheel set more often. I just wanted to show folks another option using the milk crate. The C-Tug is the best production cart I have found for the money. I did however get a steal ($9.99) on a kayak cart via amzreviewtrader. You can see a video i did on it.

does the rod jiggle around in the milk crate diamond shaped holes ?
@KayakDIY8 жыл бұрын
+triumphmanful I didn't notice it doing any jiggling. I placed it in the smallest diamond shaped hole. Seemed like a pretty snug fit.
@Tap_in_rn8 жыл бұрын
triumphmanful I don't think it will because the weight of the kayak is pushing down so it should keep the axle at the very top of the V shape.

Just steal a mlik crate and sand off the warning signs.
@KayakDIY6 жыл бұрын
I cannot promote intentional theft. I see plenty in ditches so folks can likely find free ones that way. Many I find don’t have warning labels. Home Depot has some standard size ones for approx $8. The larger ones are harder to get.
