Did you inoculate the green matter with some leaf mold compost? You can find it under a layer of leaves in a forest. Add a handful of your own compost to increase the variety of microbes and to give them food while the greens wilt. Also, chop the greens to increase surface matter. My barrel has been brewing for a year. The liquid is dark brown. Since I regularly add organic materials, there is a lot of foam and bubbles. I hope this helps!

Thank you! I will try those modifications. Do you use it full strength, or dilute it?

if you chop the vege matter better it will rot better into the water. the leaf matter, I take mine from our rainforest.. . I swear by my " tea " and bottle it as gifts.

I did this same method last summer with my grass clippings last summer on a 3 day cycle covering lightly and used it on my corn. I have bad soil conditions and my corn usually would only grow 4.5' and this REALLY made it go with much thicker, taller stalks and 2 ears per stalk on most.

That's great! Corn is a heavy feeder, so anything you can add to the soil will help. Be sure to fertilize with a slow release fertilizer when you plant your seeds too.

i wonder if thats too strong for you trees, hopefully not. in jadam they use like a cup of tat to 50 cups of water and just leave the solids in forever slowly adding water as you use it

I haven't seen any signs of trouble yet. I do need to treat those trees for bugs. I was thinking of using dish soap/water solution for that. I have tried repeated applications of Neem oil, and that doesn't work at all. I'm also thinking of using a dilute hydrogen peroxide mix. Do you know which would be better for a fruit tree application?

Have you considered aerating the buckets? I think an aerobic container would help with odor.

That's a good idea!

do you every check the temps in the trash can where you dispose of the plant matter. If layered right, in terms of carbon to nitrogen, it provides heat.

I did that for a little while when I had dreams of using compost to heat my greenhouse. I don't think I have enough brown to make it work. I just use it for mostly greens. You have inspired me to try again now that I know more about layering.
