Finally my country’s govt is doing it right when it comes to promoting our food and drinks. Thanks for doing a great job!! But it does give you some nasty hangovers tho :/

I think it's more that they're shotgunning things. I've seen a number of fantastically stupid ads on TV for Jinroh, where someone's trying to figure out what to drink, and someone asks, "What's the most popular spirit in the world?" as if that's at all anything I care about when I'm getting a drink. "Hm... Is vodka more popular than rum? What's the most popular beer?" So all those ads are actively making me not buy Jinroh ever. But, food companies sponsoring cooking videos is incredibly smart when everyone in the US is still in some kind of lockdown. We're not gonna care about whatever VPN or educational site that everyone else is pimping. Give us an ad for something that we're already watching for, and maybe we'll care.

Me: *dreams about the day the Polish Ministry of Agriculture sponsors a video about pairing miód pitny with karkówka, or homemade nalewki as a great way to keep your fresh fruit, and a great drink with pierogi - boiled, not fried, Mr. Bond.* A boy can dream...
@barditheweird
@barditheweird 3 жыл бұрын
I'm curious! (especially as a Ukrainian neighbor, hehe) Miód pitny? Sounds similar to питний мед. Drinkable honey? Do you mean mead? Is it mead though? Karkowka? Sounds similar to корковина. Is it the meat cut from the pig's neck? Nalewki? Sounds similar to наливки... Is it something like wine made of berries, which is then strengthened with some spirit like vodka? And I was kinda shocked the first time I saw someone frying dumplings, lol. It wasn't something ever done in my household! A lot of other dough things with fillings? Yeah, we can fry that. Dumplings? Nah, just boil them and serve with sour cream (sometimes with a fatty sauce made with small шкварки (crispy bits of fatty bacon) and finely diced fried onions)

@@barditheweird miód pitny is mead. In Poland we have traditional strength levels: czwórniak, trójniak, dwójniak, półtorak. Czwórniak is the weakest meaning 1 part honey 3 parts water, trójniak 1:2, dwójniak 1:1 and półtorak 1:0,5. The stronger the miód, the longer it should mature. Nalewki are vodka or diluted spirit mixed with fruit, flowers, herbs/spices for some time, strained and served clear. Nalewka isn't like wine, because it isn't fermented with fruit, it's an infused spirit/vodka. Most popular in my region (Gdańsk) are cytrynówka (lemon) and wiśniówka (sour cherry). From what I recall, they're in some bars in Lwów (Lviv).

@arturbaleja3907 3 жыл бұрын
Well. I believe, nalewki are little known in the west and i’d say it’s sad. Nalewka is a very interesting drink. It is basically a spirit flavoured with various fruits and/or spices. The usual method of making these is to either put the fruits in alcohol, or to let the fruits sit for a week with a lot of sugar mixed in them. Then you add alcohol and let it sit for a couple of months (we often call it “przegryzanie” - literally biting through). The result is a drink with a flavour closer to products like jam than to fermented drinks. The alcohol content varies wildly, from milder ones with ~20% through commercial ones with 30-40% alcohol, to the very strong ones, with stories of up to 70-80% alcohol content. They are very easy to make at home (for example with store bought pure spirit + fruits). Some of the most popular varieties are: wiśniówka (made from cherries), cytrynówka (lemons), grejfrutówka (grapefruit) and pigwówka (quince - not exactly sure about translation). Let’s also not forget about some old, classic combinations like vodka paired with sandwiches made of bread, smalec (refined lard with small pieces of meat) and fermented pickles.

@@blabby102 You're telling me you're NOT passionate about booze and instant ramen? Clearly you've never been a college student before. In all seriousness, what a weird comment to make. Has your wonderment and curiosity of the world and life been completely stomped out to where you're now a cynical husk of a person? Personally if I had the chance to try some Korean ramen it'd be a treat (I don't have the luxury of any sort of ethnic stores around me). Adam genuinely seems like a person who's passionate about food and journalism, extending to food culture and history. And if that doesn't encompass what this video is about, I'm not sure what does. So yeah, all power to the people who are passionate about trying new things they've never heard about. Power to the people that can get excited over of something as simple as a cup of ramen, too.
@blabby102
@blabby102 3 жыл бұрын
@@imnotanactualduck5997 Of course I love instant ramen. Living in Asia most of my life, I've sampled hundreds of varieties. Some of them are pretty good, but they are nothing compared to a fresh bowl of real ramen. A cooking KZbinr like Adam might make a video on ramen in the future. If he does, I'm sure he will compare real fresh noodles with the instant kind. Considering all parts of this video are fully sponsored, and his lack of praise for the instant ramen he ate, it is pretty obvious that he was not passionate about it. Making your own Makgeolli from scratch is almost the polar opposite of eating cheap instant ramen.

@@blabby102 Thanks for the response. I can see where you're coming from now that you've elaborated. I interpreted your comment with perhaps a harsher tone than it was. And when I read it I suppose I thought you were boiling the video down to just "Man has drink he has never heard of and instant ramen" on a video I got to learn some cool history on Korea, admittedly a blind spot in my area of my knowledge of east asian countries. I was like, "Wow what a fun ruiner on a somewhat wholesome post, just let people like things" and commented on impulse.
