Absolutely right. Over twenty plus years of MREs, I could easily count on one hand the number of meals I liked everything inside...and said hand probably has a couple digits missing!

Can't remember the last time I had Beenie Weenies nor the last time I was in a Dollar General. Thanks Mr. L!

Great mre. Most if the stores in my area don't have enough things in them that is going past November of this year so making this challenge I am finding to be very challenging. My son keeps laughing about this challenge. He has helped out. (Keeps reminding me things do go past shelf date.) He has also put a few together for his self.

The shelf life part of the challenge is something I put in place to make me look deeper for the items. As long as you are keeping an eye on things and don't let them get too far out of date, it doesn't have to be a hard and fast rule. Just keep in mind that shelf life is very much dependent on the type of packaging. Some are good past the marked date, and some may not be. I'm glad you are taking on the challenge and that others around you are playing along. That makes me happy to hear that others are trying this out.

Another great video! I did my homemade MRE's about a year ago, I've gotta get them eaten and build some new ones. Luckily I haven't had to dig into them. I was planning on taking them as meals for hunting this past fall but work got in the way and I couldn't get out. I keep at least 2 in each of my vehicles as emergency food. Unfortunately here, we don't have as good a selection of ready to eat stuff, such as the hormel meals, but it's getting better and I can achieve something similar with canned tuna, etc.

For sure. The only limitation is your imagination, as they say. I do these from the same store strictly for the challenge and for the entertainment value of it, but you can take any item I use and order it from Amazon or look in a big chain grocery store. I think part of the fun is finding things that work so it gives people a certain awareness of what they can use that maybe they hadn't considered before. Best wishes putting together a new stock for the next year!

Sorry to hear that. At the time it was the only way they’d let me in the store.
