Great video! You might consider adding the following: If you have to change your tire or help someone else change theirs - 1) Bottle Jack - you can probably get one less than $30. 2) Battery powered impact drill - way easier than a tire iron and probably around $50 3) Vehicle battery jumper - basically a giant rechargeable battery which can jump your car or recharge your impact drill, probably around $60. In a smaller separate tool pouch, you might store every tool which you identify as fitting something on the vehicle, like the screw bit to change your taillights, etc. Happy driving!

Great new car, congrats! Love the loadout-the mosquito net is so often overlooked, but is an unbelievable relief when you need it! Plus it is virtually weightless and can be used to prefilter water before you filter it. I would add a roll of toilet paper; you can push the cardboard tube out and vacuum seal it down quite small.

Did I miss a tarp? Even just a cheap, silnylon one that will store easily would be very handy. Also work gloves (a cheap pair of Harbor Freight Hardy brand mechanic's gloves). And I am torn about using a vehicle in a survival situation. They really are just steel boxes. If you have no gas (or other way to heat/cool) then In the summer it becomes an oven, in the winter, a refrigerator. Staying near your car, such as using it as a side of a shelter, would probably be safer.
@dadbudgetadventures5 сағат бұрын
Definitely need to consider all of that because there are so many factors involved.

Had to evacuate from fires in California twice now. Gave me a wake up call on how to think of and make survival kits. Had one of those bug out bags and was still in the phase where I planned to run into the woods. Hard to do when those woods are on fire though. lol The thing a lot of people don't seem to understand about the woods is that people already live out there and they are most likely armed and given the spike in criminality disasters spread those people probably not real happy to see strangers. I hope people remember to design your kit for what you are most likely to deal with and practice using any kind of gear you have at least once every couple of months. Just knowing every way to use an atlas to not only plan trips but to be able to find yourself if you are lost can be a huge help. I also carry fix a flat in the correct size for at least two tires just in case changing the tire is a really bad/dangerous option.

I’m with you, that your vehicle is your best bug out/get home kit. Mine includes a backpack, in case I have to abandon the vehicle. I do store things differently in the passenger compartment. Mostly because thing go flying in a crash. But also because I travel in areas where a fixed blade knife in the drivers reach is considered a deadly weapon. High visibility clothing, vests and road flares are part of my kit too. With the hi-viz in the door pocket, with gloves, in case.

Good collection of essentials. I would add a handful of handkerchiefs. They are small, easy to pack, and have a ton of possible uses. I was raised to ALWAYS keep one in my pocket, along with my wallet, keys, a pocket knife, and a small multi tool. Ive been carrying these essentials for about 40 years. I also stick 1 or 2 handkerchiefs in all of my emergency kits. I also like to have the mylar emergency blankets in my kits. I keep 4 in my car kit n case i run across an accident, or if i need them for my own emergencies. Those mylar blankets do an amazing job of helping to hold in heat.

This was a fantastic video. It discusses something that many people wouldn’t normally consider. Growing up in New England, we had winter survival duffel bags and summer survival duffel bags in our vehicles. Yes, we pretty much put all of our eggs in one big codura duffel bag (with few exceptions) that could also be worn in a backpack configuration if self rescue became the only option. They got switched out on Labor Day weekend and Memorial Day weekend. Our winter bags were set up to handle very cold conditions (-20° sleeping bag etc). Now that I live in the south, my kit is pretty much the same year round with additions made, as needed, for extended road trips (especially in the winter - holiday travel etc). I won’t list the contents because these should be specifically equipped for your area of travel with personal needs addressed but, you get the idea.

Nice car. That big black bag seemed to have everything. Tripled up on the first aid, well done. Maybe update that road atlas if there is a newer version. I'd suggest a case of water bottles. If something did happen, having 24 bottles of water would be a God send.
@dadbudgetadventures7 сағат бұрын
The issue with water bottles in the car is that in the winter they will freeze and burst and in the summer the heat causes leaching of carcinogens into the water. That’s why I like the smaller pouches and filters. The pouches are much more expensive but they won’t burst or cause health issues.

I have a couple of suggestions. Window blockers, glass is a terrible insulator, some reflective blockers will cut out some of the cold or heat. A 30 hour emergency candle or better yet a candle lantern, they produce enough heat to keep you from freezing to death without creating a major fire hazard. Speaking of fire hazards, a automotive fire extinguisher. It's unlikely that you'll need it but your fellow drivers might and if you're the type to stop and help, they're useful. Flares and a strobe light, if conditions are bad you want people to see your vehicle in the ditch. A wool hat, you lose a lot of heat through your head. Some wool socks also wouldn't go amiss. Jumper cables. A bag of cat litter, for traction (also good for leaking fuel). A camp or military shovel. A Jerry can.
@alanbierhoff68319 сағат бұрын
Excellent suggestions 👍🏻

Burning anything inside a vehicle is not the best idea. Toxic inside a small confined space. A company named Blizzard survival has a range of thermo reflective bags and sheets when combined with wool blanket or a good fleece one is a good option. I recommend Blizzard 3 layer survival bag one for every passenger.
@YabbaDabbaDoTime8 сағат бұрын
@obsever97 This has actually been tested and proven safe. Cars aren't air tight and candles don't produce enough carbon monoxide to be even slightly a danger. However, beeswax candles are recommended.
