I absolutely love that you left the rust patina and weld slag on, it gives this machine an incredible personality

@@firstchip4349 my thoughts exactly. you should paint it with the silver paint they inhale before doing something stupid just to keep the theme

@@firstchip4349 but otherwise, i think this is what engineering is all about: hitting the sweet spot between price, time of execution, and usability. of course you are not going to be doing batches of parts, as repeatability is close to zero. but usually at home you only need 1 part, and even going to you local machinist(if they still exist in your area) and explain your needs, dimensions, and pay him, is more expensive and annoying than jerry-rigging something together for something like a 1" to 20mm adapter. i use a magnet base drill mounted on a very old modified vise as an alternative for a drill press, and bought a chinese cheap XY table for basic milling. i have a friend who runs a precision shop, and i never had the patience/need to send the parts over, do a proper drawing, and wait for the parts to come back. and even he, who i think might be appalled by my ways, thinks i'm doing the right thing. my only problem with your build is size per usage, as i would never use it enough to warrant taking space in my trailer shop for the kind of work i do, which is motorcycle tuning for the most part. nevertheless, congrats!

awesome idea using the linear rails as a straight edge for scraping the machhine frame. I have been looking into doing this but didn't want to spend a ton of money on a straight edge. thank you!

May i ask please where did the spindle quill and housing come from? Beautiful build by the way…
@firstchip4349 Жыл бұрын
Hello, the spindle is from an industrial machine, I found it at a metal collection and recycling center.
