If you’re not making your poke bowls at home…. can I ask why not????? This entire salmon sashimi was only $12 at the Korean market and was enough for 2 very large bowls. All of the ingredients besides masago I already had in my fridge/pantry so it made for a very quick & delicious meal ☺️
There’s no need to measure any of this, just add a bit at a time & taste as you go!
*ingredients linked in my bio
sashimi grade salmon
kewpie mayo
sriracha
masago
shichimi togarashi
sesame oil
sesame seeds
pinch of sugar
avocado
furikake
sushi rice
seaweed salad
cucumbers
black sesame seeds
scallions

I don’t know if you know this but Costco sells *Farm-raised salmon* which makes it safer to consume raw. I know there are people who freeze their Costco salmon for 1 week just for extra precaution. But I personally don’t do that. Hopefully this helps

I use farm raised salmon at costco. Sprouts also has some. I cure them with salt for 3 hrs. I also bathe them with salt, sugar, and cold water for 3 minutes and leave it the frigde. It was so delicious especially when making carpacio 😋 If you want to skip those part you can get one at tokyo central. They're usually expensive for a small slice.

i know its not the same, but something i do that is slightly better cost wise if youre on a budget is to replace the sashimi grade salmon with smoked salmon from the supermarket, its still really good although not the same but it is a cheaper than sashimi grade salmon, i recommend anyone who wants to try this to try it :))))))

if you’re worried about the price of “sashimi grade” salmon good news! “sashimi grade” is not a regulated term and when you see it in stores or online that just means the packaging company flash froze the salmon to kill parasites, so if you want “sashimi grade” salmon, you can buy any (fresh) salmon and freeze it below -20°c (-4°f) for 7 days, after that your fish is very safe to eat raw.

I used to work at the Deli section of a grocery store and connected to our department was the sushi department. Those girls are there 12 hours a day making and packaging sushi fresh every single day and they use leftover bits of tuna, salmon, and imitation crab to make poke bowls. One of the sushi girls caught on to how much I love poke bowls so when they'd make them, she would always let me know. She couldn't pronounce my real name so she'd call me Mimi and tell me she pushed one all the way to the back where customers wouldn't see it and the package would be JAM PACKED to the brim with toppings. Extra crunch for me. She was the sweetest girl ever. I got a new job, but I left the Deli on good terms, so this video is making me want to go over there to say hi and get myself a poke bowl

Y’all don’t have to get the best grade salmon on earth lol. A lower budget option can be frozen wild caught salmon pack. Depending on where you live it can range from $10-$17 for multiple pieces. If you want uncooked you can let these thaw and immediately dice them up and add the ingredients)What I do is: Sauté on stove with butter or bake in the oven at 400 degrees for 20-30 min(depending on size of fish)Once done, the salmon should be tender, add it to a bowl, add kewpie or regular mayo(cheaper) and mix it around with seasonings of your choice. Afterwards, dice up a cucumber and add the sesame seeds/nori and pour the mixture on top of your bed of rice. If you want to be fancy you can also add the sweet soy sauce and sriracha-mayo or yum yum. And there you have it. It’s super good. And remember, all these ingredients make multiple meals, so yes you will save money in the long run.

There’s many different types of salmon, farmed and wild, the vary extremely in price. You can find really crappy “Keta Salmon” for like $3 a pound, and cheap run of the milk farm raised salmon is like $4.99 a pound. In theory you could freeze it for a week and it’d be pretty safe but the texture could take a big hit. It still susses me out personally even though In practicality, it’s safe.

On make at home vs. buy at restaurant/take out discourse, I will never understand why so many people say "it's cheaper to buy it premade". If it was cheaper to buy it made by someone else than to make it from scratch, then restaurants would have no profit. There are points about how much of a bulk buy you would buy, but from an objective stand point - price wise, it is almost ALWAYS entirely cheaper to buy ingredients and make at home.

Videos like this makes me so happy I live in the UK. Salmon costs £3-£8. Whatever we buy the price is the price. We don't have to think about tax. Our taxes go to many things which includes healthcare..which makes healthcare free. We don't have to pay thousands of pounds just because we're having a baby. $12 for a salmon is mad. Only thing you’d be buying per meal is salmon. Rice and everything else is bulk. If you don’t know how to be cost effective that’s a you problem.

@@slothschewgum I’m not going to be slow, and spend 12 dollars on a peice of salmon, when I can get a poke bowl stuffed with salmon and rice and other things for 10 dollars.
