We don't need to see you collapsing a water bottle 4 or 5 times. Once is enough. How did you convert your compressor to a vacuum pump? That is what I thought you would be showing in this video.

Looks like he removed the normal air pump pump and added a refrigerator compressor. Then plumbed the intake and outlet to fittings with quick release handles connecting the outlet to the air tank and the inlet to the vacuum hose. He's using the air tank as both a vacuum chamber and air tank but has to open the right valves and run the motor between operations to switch modes of operation. I'm not totally sure it's safe in this configuration to operate on auto as all the valves need to be set correctly to route air and it's likely the shutoff pressure sensor isn't going to work so you'd have to watch the tank pressure and turn it off manually. Also I'm not sure what kind of vacuum the positive pressure fittings are rated for before they would collapse on the end leading to the blow hose.

@@IRMacGuyver yes, he uses a refrigrator compressor and the vacuum is produce from the intake tube. The air tank is only used for producing the pressure..

(Using a small tank as a vac chamber & a pressure vessel too) Thinking of all these complicated ways to plumb it & still have it look cool...but then it hit me. What good is using a vacuum chamber that is sealed ? Save all the fittings, time, valves, and just plumb the the inlet directly to your manifold. Can you imagine that thing imploding next to you while you're sharpening a running chainsaw ?! Scary !

I WONDER IF IT WILL VACUUM FLUIDS TOO. Like pulling out the transmission fluid through the filler tube?! that would be nice to see and will save people lots of money!!! bet you could rig a 5 gal. bucket with the conections on the bucket lid and save all the trans fluid in it. Nice work De Vio!!!

So far none of these DIY unit builders have come up with a way to remove the compressor oil spray from the output air. No doubt there is a gadget that will accomplish that task but what is it and where can I get it?

Hello De Vio, This is a nice work. You have done it very professionally. I am also trying to make something like his using the refrigerator compressor. Before starting the work I would like to know few spec about your project. What is the cylinder volume (aprox.)? What is the hp rating of the compressor? How much time it took for you to reach from 0 to 120 psi? Please let me know.

Normally, aren't these designed to have the refrigerant cool the pump as it works? Having it as a air compressor, your going to shorten the life of the pump?

Yes, normally it is. For this project I replaced the oil inside with piston compressor oil, it helps with the cooling and corrosion protection. Though I wouldn't recommend to use this compressor for continues work. In fact I only use it mainly for the vacuum function, and only use the compressor if I need it for light works or when using normal compressor is not possible due it's noise

I need one of those! I've got a plastic bottle that I need to crush and inflate many times over... perfect tool for the job. Can it pump up a tyre or spray paint? Something useful would be a better demonstration.

If it can repaint rims and mirror covers, why mention that if you don't show it on the video? I can blow up and deflate a plastic bottle like that with my mouth. If you want to impress anybody, show the compressor doing something useful.

Hi, very nice setup. Question the brass T fitting (vacuum side) screwed to a fitting welded to the tank, Is that a dummy fitting? That is it is for mounting the brass T only and has no hole through to the tank? I'm trying to work out how both vacuum and pressure from compressor are both connected to the tank. I'm definitely doing this.

Hi, thanks for your replies especially the dummy connection bit. I don't want to have the vacuum to the tank, it's just the way I worded the comment (not clear on my part). I may hook up a separate very small tank though as I have a plan to make a vacuum holding base for a core drilling machine. With your set up I can both blow out the dust and vacuum the base down with the one unit. I've seen commercial units for big $$$. I actually have all the bits at home now and will be making this in time, cost virtually nil. Thanks again mate you solved a problem for me. Cheers Paul
