Homemade snow plow for Kubota B2601. I've been wanting a snow plow but am too cheap to buy a new one so I decided to convert an old truck plow to fit my compact tractor. Snow came the night I got it done so I was able to test it out right away. Based on limited use my DIY snowplow should fit my needs perfectly.
Sorry I got little long winded making this video. Trying to provide a lot of detail for anyone else wanting to modify a truck plow for a tractor. Jump to 17:30 where I start making cuts. 22:45 I start fabricating and welding.

Nice job! Jst a little fyi save money & use 1/4 inch hoses because they are 1/4 “ fittings at cylinders that act as restricted flow so not to fast, congratulations what a great set up better than a snowblower!!! For sure

Not sure if it has been brought up in a previous comment, but using a stick PVC pipe for the cutting edge will reduce the amount of gravel that the blade will scrape. Cut the stick as long as the cutting edge then make single cut down the long axis of the PVC essentially making a 'C' that will clamp onto the cutting edge. Food for thought. Great video.

Great build ! I found a 8 foot Fisher with a SnoFoil in the woods. The lady that had the property was trying to find a way to get rid of it , and I told her I would take it . I did a similar build but on an old pallet fork frame and have it on a old Kubota 430 . One word of advice , weld on a D-Ring and fish your hydraulic lines so they dont fall and pinch . I learned that lesson the hard way.

@@adamj8293 This one might be overkill for you. I welded on a bracket similar to the plow pivot points (where you bolt the plow to the plate) and made a kick stand for the quick attach frame so when my dad takes it off to put on the fork or bucket the frame sits upright . Just a had nothing to do on one weekend project ! Merry Christmas !

I built pretty much the same as you did, I did notice the lack of down pressure when trying to back drag though. What I did was to run the chain thru a piece of 2 inch pipe I had, now when you put down force the pipe acts as a solid link and transfers the force from the mounting plate to the frame. Looks good!

I have built 2 plow setups for my tractor. First was a solid weld to the back plate and the second after learning alot of the faults with that was a setup like yours. Solid mount is simple and has great down pressure. The problem is your blade is on the same plane as the rear tires so unless you have a real flat driveway and have your blade at the perfect level so the bottom stays flat to the ground when you pivot it, the corners are always digging in. I have a 40 horse New Holland and it really had it's way with that old plow and it slowly destroyed it by making it flex to the ground. 900' feet of dirt driveway doesn't help either. I like the pipe over the chain idea another person mentioned might be best of both worlds. It also would probably help when you are attaching the plow to keep the plate upright when you're trying to hook in. That's always a problem if I don't unhook in just the right spot. Can't push it around like a bucket. One other lesson I learned no weight on the 3 point. It pivots on the rear tires and makes the front tires lighter so it won't steer.. I know you mentioned that in your other video. I had the same issue on hills and with a heavy full blade until I removed my weight. I do have loaded rear tires though not sure if you do. Try it next storm see what works best for you. Nice build!

Great job! I am currently in the process of doing the exact project right down to the same old western plow. The only difference is mine will be mounted to a Mahindra 1533. I will be making a couple different things in my design that will allow me to use the same blade as a dozer blade in the summer.

Nice rebuild. I did the exact same thing for mine. Rebuilt an old Meyer 8' truck blade for my JD 5075E. Actual tractor plows have much shorter a-frames and usually use 1 cross-wise cylinder to keep the blade closer to the tractor. Gravel is hard to plow, especially with soft and unfrozen base. Had about $800 in mine which is about a third of what a manufactured one for a tractor would cost. I'm having trouble with my Titan plate as it's only 1/4" thick and is gets torn apart by the 11,000 lb tractor and 8' blade. The A-frame is actually getting pushed through the steel. So I bought some 1/2" plate and a set of JD quick-attach brackets and have to swap the whole back plate assembly out to something much stronger. I guess you could say it's between the irresistible force and the immovable object. Yours should hold up fine. You may want to try the PVC pipe trick on the cutting edge for the gravel....... I had the same problem when I used a Titan plate for my stump bucket I made.. Now the 1/4 inch plate is bent in. I bolted the stump bucket frame to the plate with six 5/8 bolts. I need to unbolt the frame from the plate to try and straighten it and bolt 2 horz channels or tubing to the plate all the way across and mount the frame to it. The amount of force pushing against the plate in a small area will bend it for sure. Still a great build. lots of ideas/

On mine I didn't use a chain I welded 2 braces. This allows me to tilt it and push with more cutting force if I need. Also it could get you 6 inches closer to the bucket

That was my original plan but I was seeing some comments online where guys said they got too much downward pressure when running off the loader float so I opted to stick with the chain. I imagine there are pros and cons but sounds like your setup is working great. Thanks for the comment!

If needed, you can wrap a piece of inner tube or rubber around the hydraulic hoses where they hit the top of the blade. Attach the rubber with cable ties, black color in your case. I did this to my skid loader hoses and it works great. Just sayin!

11:03 obviously too late now, or maybe not, but why wouldn't you wait and try the plow blade before cutting it up? I mean, if the tractor couldn't handle it, then cut it. I'm just looking around for ideas myself. I got an old western that I want to mount to an even older MTZ82. There is no loader on it, but there isn't a loader on a truck either. Haven't found anything yet. Just looking at projects like yours though is getting the juices flow. Now back to your video.

Agreed. You want it to be maximum efficiency without straining the tractor/loader. You can't tell until you try it. I've got a 66" HLA plow (and it weighs over 400 pounds) on my B2301 with no issues.

Your loader must have a float setting. Just weld plow to plate dont need all the pins hell i get off and turn blade by hand put a pin in short n up as close to loader you can. You have no down force now plow always float. Hell cant even push yourself out if you get stuck. Way over kill for small tractor plows out to far

Dude he’s got hydraulic cylinders there didn’t you notice? If he wants to use the 3rd function, which you should because it’s way more useful, you have to leave those. He basically made it as short as he could. Guy did an awesome job and I’m planning on doing it same way (although my tractor and loader are much stronger than his).
@birdhunter2754

@@c1rca23 do it any way you want. Big snow bucket works well to. Didnt have to cut plow down. I put a 8 foot poly western on. Cut plow fram real short welded to plate. 9xs out of 10 youll plow with blade. Straight like a pusher cuse when angled. It will push tractor sideways and trash your 4 wheel drive and stearing. Ya look around. No weight on. Front when plows down. I can put down force on plow if i need it out put in float. Wet snow youll find out plow will ride on top of snow. He did a nice job. Hell just buy a cheap plow truck its got heat ect. Skidloader with plow it. Diffrent then tractor w/ plow. With plow welded solid you can tilt ect push yourself out if stuck. Youll find out.

Do you feel now you could of left the 6 in on the edges and been OK. The blade and gravel don't mix well even after the ground gets hard I have a small 4 wheeler with a blade and make bigger shoes so it couldn't drop in as bad I always wanted to try snowmobile skids for the 1st part of the year.

i got one of these plows with my tractor, www.snoway.com/plows/22-series/ looks like in the pictures minus the pump and headgear as it uses the loader to lift and the bucket dump & curl lines to angle the plow. it also still has the plow lift cylinder which is where its aloud to float. i have a 87 yanmanr 226d. only part of the plow thats actually modified is the mount where it attaches to the loader, it sill has the levers that pull the pins to remove it just like if it was on a vehicle.

@adamj8293
@adamj8293 Жыл бұрын
Nope the tractor handles it just fine. It’s only down side is that’s it’s heavy hanging so far out front so I take it easy when driving around but that isn’t an issue as long as I’m smart and take my time. Most of our snows are pretty light so I use a 7’ aluminum pusher more often. But for deep snow the one I built is my go to.

I think I ended up around $550. $250 for the plow, $170 for the cylinders hoses and fittings, $125 for the adaptor plate plus some steel. The cylinders were a big unplanned expense. If you wait til spring I bet you can find a beater plow with functioning cylinders and get it done for less than I spent.
