I have an older model of this and the metal is very heavy Duty. Mine came from a Steelcase furniture shop. Very interesting. Great Video. Thank You.

Man, I feel your pain. You should call ebay. I believe they except returns, especially if they lied. You probably can use a proto power or a bottle jack and some lumber. strap down blower housing to a strong work bench. And press out dent from inside out. Looks like unit got smash from the outside, where the plate for motor sits.

How do they even make fans immune to explosions? I wouldn't be surprised if at least the motor got annihilated, even if being slightly scorched is the worst the rest of the fan has to endure
@EdOfTheNorth
@EdOfTheNorth 7 жыл бұрын
First off, I'd cut the motor mount from the housing with a zip disc on a grinder. It is bent and not easy to repair if left on the housing. Then I'd take a bottle jack and some spacers and gently expand the housing back into a circle from the inside. When that is accomplished, then repair the 90 degree bends on the motor mount and weld it back on to the housing. Spending an hour fixing what you've got is way cheaper than the price of another one at full price.

....Part of the risk of explosions/sparks can be vastly reduced by using 3 phase motors...they don't have a mechanical starting/running switch inside like most all single phase motors......3 phase motors are usually less expensive and can swing a larger fan.....

I work in a paint booth all day every day. My stack is 36” Being out of round wont hurt it. Grab a mallet and make room for the fan to turn freely and call it a day. Pretty shitty of them to sell that without telling you it wont turn.

Take the fan off and bend the housing as round as you can so the blades are centered within a 1/16". it would be ideal to get a 3 phase 220VAC, 5 HP motor and a VFD that way you have enough HP to run at whatever speed and direction you need, under VFD control. the cost of a chinese VFD is worth tons of frustration swapping pullies, buying fan belts, and screwing with air flow research. As you noted, some people want to get rid of 3 phase motors. then run the fan on the bench to make sure it does not vibrate and moves air smoothly.

On Ebay if the ad and pictures are misleading you can contact Ebay and tell them even if the ad say "all sales are final" Ebay sides with the buyer 85% of the time. They'll make them refund your money plus shipping cost to return it. If the seller refuses Ebay will refund your money and deal with the seller.

Or he may be able to get Ebay to have seller make a deal where they have him refund some of his money but he would get to keep unit!
@231flash
@231flash 7 жыл бұрын
Yes that too. Ads that say NO REFUNDS or ALL SALES ARE FINAL don't mean crap if the ad is misleading. Ebay sides with the buyer must of the time. I've got full refunds and kept the item.

Contact the seller, ad was BS. I would cut some half circle rings on your plasma to use to get the tube circular again. cut the motor mount off first. the fan should have the motor requirements in the paperwork. if not send me the model info and I'll have a look.

You got a deal on the fan but...I would still contact the seller and demand a partial refund because it is unusable as they shipped it..You should get paid for the time it will take you to get the fan operational.

I'd be concerned that with whatever damage it has, does it compromise the actual integrity and safety of the fan in operation, as well as its anti-explosion properties?

I think that Marathon motor is high quality. But it's probably much more speed and HP than you need. You might better save it for a machine you need to power up. Whatever you end up using, make sure it has a capacitor start.

I'd take the blade off, clamp it to your table. Bolt some steel to the table in the center. Maybe use a small bottle jack to slowly push out the dent.

If it was me id remove the fan blade and set the high side of the motor mount on something solid and gap the low side and beat it with a hammer until the motor mount was even and symmetrical again and then dolly until the blade was running with the same gap all the way around.

I'd be willing to bet if you sealed that chamber off filled the area with solvent and struck a spark in there the explosion 💥 would repair the shipping damage ez peasy. Ironically. Sorry Gary just being a smart ass bum deal on the fan. The new design looks like a paint gun holder.?🤔

UH HUH and yup! Gary I have a Dayton 24" Tubeaxial fan for my paint room. My paint room is a room built into my shop, framed and sheetrock. My fan has a 1 HP single phase motor that runs on 120 or 240 volts as desired. They use non sparking aluminum propeller blades for explosion voidence. The motor runs an 1 1/2' pulley and the fan shaft has what looks to be about a 4" pulley. In my 20 ft x 30 ft paint room that fan will suck the hair off your head. Anything bigger than 1 HP 1750 rpm will be totally wasted and even a problem because I still have to baffle off the tube opening to slow down the air flow. I wish you luck with your paint room set up. Cheers OLDDUDE. PS message me your usps mailing address as I have an inquiry for some metal pcs that I am thinking about having made up.

Great Info! Good to know. I also have a 1HP 1750 rpm motor, so it's good to hear that works for you. Do you run 2 belts or one?
@Thisoldcar
@Thisoldcar 7 жыл бұрын
Just one belt, it doesn't take much effort to turn the propeller blade and it works quite efficiently with the 1 hp and single belt. Cheers OLDDUDE

Oh yea another thing is that I mounted a metal electrical box onto the tunnel housing and ran the power line to the box and installed a switch in the box with a power wire going from the switch into the motor wiring box on the motor. I drilled an 1/8"" hole thru the switch flip lever and installed a stiff pc of wire in the hole and thru the wall that allowed me to keep the power switch out of the paint room but allowed me to pull or push the wire toggle to turn the power switch on or off from inside the room to start or stop the fan from the working area instead of having to turn it on before opening the door and entering the paint room causing the fan to draw unfilltered air into the room when the fan is running. Cheers OLDDUDE
