Nice job and explanation of air flow issues. As for fan blades plastic would generate static. Particulates in an air stream moving past an insulator is how you make static. Glad you ended up with metal blades.
@PunkerBuilds2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for watching. Ahh, ok, thank you for the correction. I think I mixed it up with the potential for steel blades to spark? I was reading on a various manufactures websites that steel blades coming in contact with ferrous debris could generate sparks so aluminum or plastic were good alternatives. Though I am absolutely not an expert and appreciate your input.

Let me say this first - I love your spray booth...!!! I came across your video after looking at all these home-made types, which do not really comply with codes, even though they are just for models. For the CFM's being used here and the SIZE of the booth opening, static/static preasure is not so much of a concern, especially if it is properly grounded, regardless of material used. Yes you do need a sealed/explosion proof fan - safety first since most modelers use spray can primers. Your design is great and movable. Very well thought out.

Stumbled upon this in my search for upgrading my airbrush booth a couple of months ago. Love this build and you do a great job explaining everything. I know this was asked before, but it would be great if you built these to sell! I would drive any distance to pick it up! I will see if I can find someone in my area that knows how to work with welded steel. I also want to spray lacquer and want a similar blower but was wondering if Dayton makes one that is completely sealed. Thanks!
@PunkerBuilds Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! I really wish I could produce these booths for sale. I'm fairly certain I could design one that even ships flat. If this video draws enough attention/interest, I would definitely consider it. As for fully sealed motors, you can look for "explosion proof" blowers. They're not uncommon but are much more expensive. I didn't look too much further than this Dayton once I found it since it does the trick for us.
@frediusmaximus1 Жыл бұрын
@@PunkerBuilds Thanks. I have found explosion proof blowers but for my needs I think as long as the motor is outside the airstream like the one you use, that would work great.
@frediusmaximus1 Жыл бұрын
@@PunkerBuilds Are the build plans/dimensions available for this spray booth? I would be willing to pay for them and have someone build one for me. I could definitely try this using wood but would rather use metal for fire safety.
@REKlaus Жыл бұрын
Very nicely done. This is the most over engineered and over built spray booth I have seen for in home use. I like the concern for safety with the using enough CFM for good exhaust and the use of a sealed motor on the blower. I'm betting it is a pain to move.
@PunkerBuilds Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Safety is something I'm definitely willing to go above and beyond on lol. It's not my favorite thing to move, though it is manageable when split in halves!

Great job! Would LED lighting in the back be helpful too, or is the front and top lighting sufficient? Thanks for sharing your wonderful workmanship!
@PunkerBuilds Жыл бұрын
Thank you and thanks for watching! I think more lights on the top would probably help. I just avoided putting them anywhere they might shine into our eyes while working. The LED strip i used isn't as bright as I'd like it to be, so more light wouldn't hurt.

Thanks for the safety info. I needed the math to make one of my own. I like the ideas you had in your booth. Can you give us an idea on cost to make it?
@PunkerBuilds9 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! I want to say it was around $1,000 CAD. Probably $400 in steel, $300 for the blower, and another $300 in odds, ends and hardware.

I'm needing something like this for spraying Ceracote. Would the same fan work?
@PunkerBuilds Жыл бұрын
It depends on the specific product instructions / hazards on the MSDS sheet. If it's a standard aerosol, it should work fine. Looks like their products call for "general and local" ventilation, so you might want to wear a respirator as well as having the local ventilation. The only blower that's safer than the one I used would be an explosion rated one and they're expensive and unnecessary for the small volume we're doing. I hope this helps!
@tomquintana4186 Жыл бұрын
@@PunkerBuilds It does help, this would be perfect for my airbrushing and Ceracote! Thanks for the fast response. This is by far the best design I've found! If you decide to sell plans for this let me know. Great work! 🙌

@@PunkerBuilds No, it's a sterile environment workspace for things like mycology and tech work. It's essentially a box with a fan that blows through a hepa filter with specific dimensions to create a certain flow state. I immediately thought of one when I saw your spray booth. Similar design but push instead of pulling airflow.

In the video you show a height of 40 1/2" and the width 30 1/2". Can you share what the depth is? I was thinking if you are using a 16" wide furnace filter it looks like the depth is around 20". I want try to design one in Rhino or Sketchup. Thanks!
@PunkerBuilds Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The depth is 24" and the furnace filter is 16" x 25". The real critical thing is to just keep one dimension less than 28" so it can fit through most doorways lol.

@@PunkerBuilds one day I plan to build a workshop out back to move my hobby out of the house and I've been researching making my own booth. I currently use a plastic portable booth which does ok but something like what you made would be so much better. You did a great job man! I don't have access to a lot of the resources you do lol so building it out of metal would be difficult.

@@PunkerBuilds I totally understand and yes you have inspired me and I hope you don't mind me using yours as inspiration I love the suction being in the bottom to keep dust, fumes and particles down. Finally had some time to check out your videos - you do great work! The details on those parts is wild. I wish you luck in expanding your spray setup! If you made a booth with wood, you can still clad it in some thin steel or aluminum as a barrier. It's pretty easy to cut with a jig saw. I would strongly recommend a variable speed blower for your fine work. We've had issues with the fan disturbing the paint spray before it gets to the part.

It would be nice to do a metal booth, but it comes down to cost. That's where a lot of people can't do it.
