This is truly astonishing. Its about 1 year i wondered if i could build a disk telegraphone only with handmade components, but its too much work. You did a great job building this device. And it works Very Well.

Excellent! Congratulations, both for the concept, and the superb build quality!

It is a very well-executed build. It sounds just like the first Edison recordings using the same tin horn. If you drove the pre-amplifier with a computer sound card output from some audio processing software, I expect the recording sound quality would be exponentially improved.

I thought telegraphones were reel to reel but I guess they can be disc or wire on cylinder too. These names can be confusing. Pretty slick, I'd like to hear what it sounds like with a direct feed for recording and playback.

Great Video! I'm a MA student looking to build something similar. Would be great if possible to have a conversation about how you made your wonderful machine? Many thanks

Great device, especially the noise level is very low compared to a phonograph (cylinder) or gramophone (disc). I merely found a 1900 recording by a telegraphone do you know any further historical recordings with it?

Where can I see data of the magnetic head or a drawing of it?
@xofunkox

I have not found any documentation for the clay head. Neither has the ebay seller. It can't be a erase head either because it has about 550 ohms DC resistance. Erase heads typically have about 5-10 ohms. www.ebay.de/itm/324198121826?hash=item4b7bb6c162:g:6PAAAOSwmaBe5ivl

Thank you so much for your video! I've been researching sources to build a telegraphone myself for a few years and this looks like a great design. Please - post more information about the head. How is it made? Is it a coil with any particular number of turns? Do you have a drawing of one?

Beautiful device! Are you using DC bias, AC bias, or direct audio to the head? And how does it sound with direct hookup?
