Homemade Tractor Boom Pole (From Scrap)

Hello all! Welcome back. In this video I attempt to build a boom pole for the tractor using scrap parts I had laying around.

I did think about that but then realised its kind of pointless as there's so much range of movement on the boom alone

Cutting fluid is actually from my experience a lot better than wd 40, ok you use what you have.

Would be interesting to carry out a gradual weight test and test it's limits, obviously the pivot point is the tractor rear wheels. Lots of factors to consider.

I'm having some issues with the hyd at the moment so it can't life to it's full potential. Think I need to rebuild the pump. But what I actually built this for is lifting logs around the yard so for that purpose it should be more than strong enough 👍

Cool. Thought there would be a lot more flex of the boom under load. Loads of lateral sway, though. How are you going to reduce that, if at all?

It was surprisingly rigid! I mess up though, was supposed to add an extra bit on the end of the video where i finished it. Have added a stainless steel reinforcement strap from end to end with a raised point over the pivot hole. Also painted it 😊 As for the sway, that is wear/slop in the 3 point linkage that I need to try and take out

I'm half way through watching and already think the weight of the iron pole is sooo heavey, that the hydraulics will not be strong enough to lift the pole AND the the weight of much load. Remember that poor old Nuffield is not from yesterday but many years before yesterday. Sorry for being so negative but i'm a farmers boy and have used tractors from yesteryear and from the modern day, so have some comparison.

I was amazed at how well that worked. I was thinking, something will bend or snap but there it is. For an old tractor it's serving you well 👍
