I made this at my grandmas house with some scrap 4x4s and got the metal ties and built it... it worked GREAT, the bench isn't just good for weights but even just using it to hold stuff and wood if you need to. I am so happy I found this video, Thank you so much for making it simple, it was awesome.

I've been wanting to build a weight bench rather than go out and buy one.I am actually a carpenter and I had mulled over a few different ideas . So I decided to check KZbin just for kicks. I really like this guy's design and the sturdiness of it ! The sheer manliness of it...lol ! I'm going to build mine just like this ! Thank you Sir !

lol I made a few of these before I saw your video. I just covered them with yoga mats and sold them and kept one for myself. I used scrap wood, didn't even need to sand or stain. good enough as is. nice vid. huge overkill with those metal straps but they work.
@A10goBRRRRTT2 жыл бұрын
Yeah probably overkill but I’d rather have a sense of security since I’ll be using this for powerlifting
@robertlehnert41483 жыл бұрын
OK, I pretty much followed your plan, with a few modifications, such as using a 48" x 11.5" x 1" stair board, and a 2x4 for the top long brace between the legs and another 2x4 for a bottom.brace between.the feet. Simpson braced and screwed the heck out of it, a simple rock solid bench.

Thanks man! Just finished mine and it came out sweet. I used some pre-fabbed 90 deg brackets and they worked well. They were a bit beefier too. The bench ended up being slightly too tall for me so I'll have to shave down the bottom pieces.

use a combination of nails and screws, screws keep the material flush together, nails have a higher shearing strength to prevent snappage

You should rename the video to gym bench bc that's what newbies like me search for and don't find anything. Great vid.
@SeanTownsendStormrider3 жыл бұрын
This is a nice improvement over the buff dudes design and should support even more weight. Before you call it a copy, pay attention to the fact that his base is longer and the supports go under the base to support it instead attaching to the sides. Since bench pressing puts most of the weight over one of these supports, this is a better idea since less stress is put on the ties and lateral stress is much less than vertical stress with how this is used. I can also agree with not bothering to pad the bench.

Hard to say exactly, but those materials are typically used to build decks and things that support a lot of weight. Obviously we aren't assuming any liability here, but we'd feel pretty good about a 200-pound athlete with up to about 300 pounds on the bar. Hope that helps! Good luck!

that looks great!! Just a question if that joint with metal plate is strong enough to hold heavy weight ?? no glue needed?
@volumeboyman4 жыл бұрын
Personally, I'd -use glue for added strength -not bend the ties and just the ones that already made at 90°

We feel confident in its strength but as M Davis mentioned, glue will add strength to the joint which is never a bad thing!

I wouldn’t build it that way. I have an A1 class M licence and the plates aren’t rated for those forces. You would be better off using galvanized tension for those pins. Best of luck to you.
