Brilliant !! It's really a very well done construction, starting from just a piece of wood, I think it's great. Your ideas are always excellent, and staging it with the real sound of a helicopter was great, almost you could believe it was going to fly away. Bravo Del 👏

Thank you very much, Pascal! The piece of wood had the beginnings of a helicopter shape, and I was holding an angle grinder! "Hmm", I thought...

So cool Del i love your home made diy projects you always come up with interesting new things to see this helicopter very well crafted and the wind blows rotor was cool maybe a bit of brass sleeve inserted in the top with some powder graphite might be enough to make it work on the radiator

I'm very glad that you like this little toy, Brent! In the video it was parked on a domestic fan, so I could spool up the rotors and shut them down to match the soundtrack. So I don't think I'll have to do much to get it to spin over a radiator! Graphite might be enough - and it so happens that I already have some! Thank you for the idea : )

Hi Del! Wow, I would have loved a little toy helicopter like that when I was a kid! Great craftmanship, I fear that this kind of ingenious creativity will be gone for good in the near future. It's so nice to see a hand-crafted toy and very rare these days. Loved the sound effects, I was willing the heli to take off at the end! But, as a child, in my mind, IT DID!!! ✌👍👍

Hello Mark! Thank you - I really do remember having a very basic varnished wooden toy train which ran on a red wooden track with grooves for the wheels. There's something about wooden toys which I did, and do, find appealing. To make it spin up I had to nick my wife's bedside fan, lie it on its back, and park the chopper on top of it. I used a bit of Lexan offcut from my Peter Smith M05 2CV body to reduce friction. I'm hoping to persuade my wife to drive the 2CV for me this weekend so I can get some tracking shots and post the build vid. I'm planning to watch your Scorpion video tonight, after she retires for the night.

Great a scratch build mate, an excellent sculpt. I love this little twin rotor chopper. How did you get the rotors to spin ? Was it a hairdryer or the wind ? Either way, it was great to see this model come alive like that. Great touch adding the start-up sfx too - that certainly added to the realism. Nice work. I love out of the blue videos like this...👍🏻👍🏻.

Hello, mate! I pinched a domestic fan from the house and laid it on its back on the ground. I parked the heli on the safety grille and switched the fan on. When the time came for the blades to begin to spin I plugged the fan in to the extension lead for the lawnmower. For the sound effects I just KZbin heli start-up, run, and shut-down sounds on my phone and held it next to the camera while it was recording the helicopter. I must admit that I've been hoping you'd see this and looking forward to a comment from you : )

@@Del350K4 Yeah, I meant to add that you really know your helicopter anatomy. Not a lot of people would have comprehended to add the engine, let alone sculpting it as accurately as possible from bamboo. It's very impressive.

Thank you! I sometimes consider recycling an indoor heli which no longer flies (I have several) & fitting a main & a tail rotor motor, so I can fit a discreet switch and have the rotors vome alive.

Hello, Derek! I'm glad that you like this video. I had the idea of using a domestic fan to get the rotors to spin the evening before I filmed it, and excitedly set it all up the next day.
