Its amazing how a little sink drain can be an excellent candidate for being a wet scrubber for woodgas. This video shows the proof in the pudding with a paper towel, and a nice clean flame that comes out of it. I am not saying that people shouldn't use solid mass as saw dust for filter media, I am simply making more options for people to use. I believe this works well due to High and low pressure. As the gas and water flow through the sink drain the gas particles need to combine together with the water compressing atomization and cleaning the gas greatly. Hope this helps people out in the wood gas community.

+flash001USA Again thanks buddy, you shared your thoughts with your great videos and got me into this woodgas experimentation, other wise would have never came up with this idea. im happy to share knowledge like you did. As of right now I have put woodgas experiments' on hold, busy with work and planning to get married moving out takes a lot of time. Flash I don't have this would gas machine anymore, this was just a testing and learning device on what I want to do in the future. I want to make a smaller device more compact then this one I have built. Again thanks for your inspiration man!

+flash001USA buddy I forgot to mention one last thing. Before the machine was gone I did a couple more experiments, I shared this with Dan as well. "The shaker grate" buddy if you make that thing flat with no vertical sides, instead of a bowl shape it made the thing work and flow really good no more back ups. what I used was a grill pan with holes. If you want me to make a video of this I will. just let me know if you try this let me know it worked really well for me man.

+flash001USA Well buddy most of the parts I still have but mainly the gasifier is in gasifier heaven. Lol I know what your thinking why the heck after all that work would you do that. I really enjoy building things and drinking beer at the same time, this gasifier was just a rough draft and a big learning curve of what I aim to do next. This one I built was very bulky but great to learn by. when other people see this I think it was to much of a maze, so I want to compact it and simplify this even more like what you did. I have some great Ideas to do this and by cheep too, lol it’s the time I need to have to get this done but I will make new videos some time next year. Anyways Mike or Flash Merry Christmas man have a great new years bud Joe zinkowitz
@flash001USA
@flash001USA 8 жыл бұрын
+Josefppaz Understood about the build being bulky. Before my wife passed last year I had already built a 3rd (and hopefully my final gasifier) which is a bit more compact then the one I have now. Don't get me wrong, I like the build but the truth is you could make one in a 10 gallon container especially if you are using wood pellets. I built the new one using a 100 gallon propane tank so it's still tall but it's skinnier plus it's much more robust due to the thickness of the container. This still allowed me to shrink the over-all size down by roughly 1/3rd of my original build. I have some good surprises for everyone on how I built the fire cone (hearth) this time around. I didn't use the trailer rim and instead I used a one gallon paint can filled with the mixture using the same steel fire cone and the job came out top shelf and it is much much simpler than cutting and welding the rim. This new hearth bolts on and the restriction throat bolts on too so this makes the gasifier 100% repairable and doing mods is as simple as it gets. I may send you some photos of the the hearth in the paint can. I'm like you man. I start off a bit clueless on projects like this and learn as I go but I think we all do that. Merry Christmas and have a happy new year.

Im building a gasifier that has 6 - 3in burn tubes and i get one serious smoke stack which will not light as it probably has too much steam even though my fuel is dry wood pellets. So im looking for a way to clean the gas but have no steam. Wow ! Ya, so water bathing the tary sooty smoke ,and you don't get any steam coming back into the gas before it would enter an intake manifold.Just wondering how big of an engine you could run with your gasifier and and how many gallons of fluid you recirculate in you gas bath.One more question is how long will you run before you need to change your fluid.

At 3:50 you said there is no smoke coming out and I agree. The point I want to make is when you switched over to your vacuum and had it running awhile before you turned your pump on, there was no smoke then either. Seems there should have been smoke before you turned your pump on as there was smoke coming out of the other stack before switching over.

Hello sir, I read in the comments you took your gasifier apart. Were you able to harvest and gas for stoves lights? I am interested to hear if this would run a gas heater? To replace propane?
@Josefppaz
@Josefppaz 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ricky interestingly I found when I ran my little engine for about 20 minutes, the engine ran very cool to the touch. I wonder if this wood gas has less BTU for heat, mind you it was a cold day. As far as harvesting the gas I haven’t tried it. I would be very cautious even to try. The gas still has lots of oxygen going through the system, would be interesting to have a oxygen meter present to see. I have seen people wanting to compress the gas but I am not an expert on doing so. I find it can be very dangerous but it’s a different story if you know what you can do. As far as getting rid of the oxygen present in the gas I think there could be ways but lots of work. This type of gas is great for running a generator for a heater, but to replace propane that’s a good question. Best way to see how much carbon dioxide is present with wood gas maybe to measure with some gas meter. Unfortunately something i never tried. If the heater was in a garage I would rather heat it up with a rocket stove. Sorry could help much Ricky.

@@Josefppaz wow, Joe. I didn't expect such a fast reply. Thank you. Yeah after I wrote my question/comment I read thru the others and saw you were temporarily getting out of the wood gas fun. I've played around with them for maybe 15 years but dont have one right now either. Last ones I built were actually quick and dirty FEMA designs with debris after Hurricane Micheal to help some people power their generators they needed for medical equipment in what was left of their homes. Gas and other fuels were in short supply and there were areas of Florida w/o power for months. Anyways, with everything going on in the World I've decided to build myself a nice gasifier finally. I just ordered the new version of the Wood Gasifiers Builders Bible and have been spending a little bit every day for the last couple weeks reading blogs and watching videos on various designs and issues. I wonder if it would be possible to store your produced gas in something like an empty propane tank. After your clean gas outlet, before your gas generator, you could have another 5 gal tank with a larger inlet (from clean gas out) than outlet (clean gas to generator) and on the inlet you should have a low CFM centrifugal blower to create a positive pressure in this tank. This would create a sort of buffer area to accumulate gas while an air compressor or refrigeration recovery machine "sips" on the accumulated gas through a small inlet line drilled through the side of the buffer tank and pushes it to an empty propane cylinder all while being able to burn the gas you cant store in a small generator. :) Of course you would have to make sure that this gas mixture is safe to store under pressure. If this works you could also use it to recover left over gas after you turn it off if you block all inlets and outlets to the atmosphere. Anyway I LOVE this setup is beautiful and really well made. :)

Thanks LewdFish for the positive comment, I have seen a few videos my self on people doing what you said, but its really on the danger side of things. Sad part is you will still have a mixture of oxygen coming out of the pipe, I talked to Flash 001 USA (Mike) about this and its on the boom side of things. I know you can get a oxygen meter to measure how much volume there is but I still think oxygen is on the high side of things especially when compressing it. For myself I wouldn't recommend it especially with out a oxygen meter, and the guys who do this with out are ticking time bombs. But if you have the money to pick up a oxygen meter just to see and experiment sure why not, but as of now I wouldn't know how to get rid of the oxygen present in the wood gas, all I know is there is chemistry chemicals on the great internet to take away oxygen and purify the gas, which one I don't know my friend hope this helps : )

Could't you run the gas from the burn chamber through two drums filled with water, And then to a condensation tank ? So gas comes out down to bottom first drum half filled with water, then from the top goes in to bottom of next water drum then from the top goes in to the condensation tank. The first water drum should pull most of the nasties the second should cool the gas and pull remaining nasties and reduce huge ammounts of pipe work and pumps etc

That is a deliciously blue, smurf attracting, flame you have there. I don't think you will have any trouble running an engine with this :) . When you turn the water pump off, do you see any differences in the flare? I want to try something like this one day, perhaps using a shower head and a water pump to produce a rain storm in the gas cleaning cylinder. Keep up the good work. This is the life blood of gasification :) . Oh, by the way, I bet the ceiling above your flare is getting plenty hot.

Steve forgive me Dan told me your name. I saw a video on venturi scrubbers and they seem to work really well from a low pressure to high and then low. I have seen some guys use the water pump to make a rain storm idea but I believe the venturi idea works maybe better to wash the gas. When the gas and water slip through the holes of the sink drain the gas particles need to speed up and so the water has to speed up as well to get through. So this makes the water and gas have to combine which makes this a very good wash, almost like atomizing them both. buddy. hope this helps

now what will u do with this tech PLEASE dont say ur gona make electricity i keep telling every woodgaser i see that says that i tell u know steam is WAY more efficient than wood gas and it is actually a hell of a lot easier and it dosent care what u feed it it isnt picky i idont understand why people are afraid of steam but not wood gas they both have the same propensity to blow up and be fatal O.o

xoxoXoieoxox you know your absolutely right, I think including myself its so cool to see a chemical reaction transition take place with a piece of wood to gas transforming that energy to electricity. lots of people even though its a old tech its neat to see it work, heck I just like looking at the blue flame that I helped create. Absolutely steam is more efficient and cleaner to run, then wood. most people have gas engine generators rather then steam engines. Again if the world had steam engine generators in the market the gas engine 5 hp engine wood not be as popular. I totally see your point. lol steam engine wood be fun to build just don't have the money to get a lathe, and milling machine but its on my list : )
