This is one of the videos ever, truly a of a video. EDIT: I really like the moss shots, Whenever I look at moss I think of a tiny rainforest full of springtails, microbes, Rotifera and tardigrades. Really gives me childhood memories of taking moss and putting them inside small jars, hoping insects were inside.

I must admit I like moss too, but I’ve never been able to grow it. But now I know it’s probably the tap water. That’s why it dies or just won’t grow.

I have a vague feeling I had such a lightbulb bottle once upon a time (though it of course didn't come with lights, LED strings weren't out yet). I've been keeping our non-frosted incandescent lightbulbs as they burned out and we replaced them with now affordable LEDs in order to one day use them for an upcycling art project of some sort. I now think I'll turn them into terrariums in which I'll have a light string bent to look like Edison filaments. It would ideally be a solar panel light string for the symbolism of the light from the string to be "sunlight". It might then become a wacky art project if I set it up such that the solar panel was blocking the bulbs from the sun but the setup was set to be lit when the panel was receiving sun instead of at night, as a reminder that, without some serious storage (if we ignore heavy metals and rumoured child slave labour), solar panels will never solve our energy need question 😢 Yeah, I think I'll just use a battery or USB string instead 😂
@HomemadeEcosystems Жыл бұрын
Sounds like a cool project ! But I indeed think just using a battery powerd ledstring will be easier 😅

If I get ditch electricity in my future home, this would be a perfect use of light bulbs cause I will miss those weird orbs of glass. Btw that plant you pulled out reminds me of rag weed. :)

Just found you while at work so I hopped on my phone to make sure I subscribed. I had a few questions. Is there a reason why you are using mostly glass containers? And do you think the smaller ecosystems will do okay in a office? Take care.
@HomemadeEcosystems Жыл бұрын
It is just because I find more nice glass containers. I have 1 or 2 in harder plastic too. As long as it gets enough natural light it should do fine in an office:)

For me the moss does not survive in a terrarium. It will grow on walls perfectly but turn black and die within 2 weeks in a terrarium.

There are several comments about face reflections ... Am I the only one who saw what looked like a human face in the moss that was destroyed around three minutes in? (I don't know how to do the time stamp and can't be bothered to learn.) It was really disturbing - I know this is true because I looked at it over and over again.
