As an old guy who has been working with his hands for almost 50 years, take my advice and do everything you can to reduce vibration and shock in the tools you’re using. The accumulated damage to your hands and forearms can leave you with reduced function and a lot of annoying pain. Wood handled tools like an axe would be better than a machete. I know you probably did that for the cool factor, but for people wanting to do something like this for themselves, an axe would be a better choice. Also if it glances off toward your body, a machete has like 2 feet of cutting edge to get you vs an axes 4 inches. Cool bench tho.

How true. I fight pain daily. Unfortunately I was not in a position to refuse the jobs I had 35 years ago. Everything from texting to wiping can at times be excruciating.
@rexmundi81549 ай бұрын
@@tireballastserviceofflorid7771 yeah, years ago nobody really cared about health and safety and I grew up working on farms, then the military, then industry. It’s frustrating now that I’m the most skilled and capable and I’m restricted by my broken down body. Like you’d said, even something as simple as typing out a comment can be painful

@@tireballastserviceofflorid7771I am pretty old and know plenty of older people, including my father, who did plenty of labor and are not suffering from your maladies. I guess it just depends on your particular body.
@tireballastserviceofflorid77717 ай бұрын
@ohsweetmystery Well, work is not all the same. I had to run a punch press when I was 18. Made 4000 parts a day or was fired. The machine worked great, but gave everybody corporal tunnel syndrome. Then other jobs just like it for a few decades. You do the wrong type of work, and you're screwed. Other jobs are a lot of work but way less risky on the body.

What I love about these builds whether it be for exterior or not, I love the carved, natural appearing shapes that come out of these projects. I love when outdoor furniture resemble some sort of natural, from the Earth material and of course wood always offers that but even more so when carved to appear like it’s this random piece you found when hiking. FYI I’ve seen enough reviews that the Ryobi grinder isn’t the greatest of all grinders. Definitely on the cheaper side but I’m wondering if it was the grinder not performing the way it needed to, even though ik it’s rocks it makes me wonder if it’s a tool issue too

This bench 'rocks' ha. I really like the look of the stones and how cheap they were. I've used cast concrete for furniture and I worry about the possibility of cracks and chipped edges during shipping, it seems that rocks would be much stronger and wear resistant?
@HomeMadeModern Жыл бұрын
depends on the rocks and I am no expert but the guy at the rockyard said that the smooth roundish stones like this tend to not chip so easily
@ConnorHolland Жыл бұрын
@@HomeMadeModern Probably because any weak areas would have eroded during the forming of the rock, leaving only the strongest shape behind
