I'm 65, you lost me at "You just can't keep going up and up". 😇Agreed on mind to muscle connection and always cleaning up form. Over 60 training to failure on every set leads to failure. Agreed on push/pull/squat! I do dips, pulls, ATG goblet squats. To the 58 year old, I don't normally train to failure but I did on this workout. Also set a new PB with 11 reps of 5 lbs. pull-ups: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5yviHtroZuLerMsi=83vMLgl8WanNOkDB

Hey give me some hope! I'am going to stick with the basics but if i could HSPU to have fun with my daughter that would be amazing. Very nice to see the perspective of stephen regarding frequency, keep it up! P.S: Tendon are getting better despite the weight going up with the ring pull up :)

At 35 my goal is to take care of my joints, stay injury free, and i found that form is even more important now than It was in my 20's. I've noticed knee pain and clicking in my elbows , maybe that was from the very high rep / volume workouts I use to do but now I focus more on low volume and strength with clean and controlled reps .

Calisthenics aren't supposed to be hard on your joints in the first place, so this is disappointing news

Hi Luis, I think that calisthenics are the way to go longevity and mental health as you grow older. I like to say "a little dose of calisthenics a day keeps the doctor away!"

Probably changing rythm, that would be slowing reps pace, might be another way to add progression without taxing your body and cns unnecesarily, or in a way that would drain your system unsafely.

I'll be 51 in a couple of weeks. I decided to stop doing pullups and I feel great. I tore my bicep last year doing them, but continued with them after I healed up (the healing process took 6 weeks). Didnt elect for surgery. I'm just not into them anymore, plus I was having joint pain. I did them for 12+ years. This is big for me because they really were my favorite exercise. Now, i focus on different variations of pushups, including dips, handstand training, jump rope training, burpees, leg raises, etc. I feel great. I feel like my focus is a bit more on conditioning.

I’m 56 and the last year or so I’ve find pull-ups and chins give me golfer’s elbow. I use rotating handles now which helps, and rarely do weighted versions now. I’ve also switched to micro workouts as my motivation isn’t what is used to be.

Hi M E, not all exercises are for everyone indeed. One thing that has saved my elbows from pull-ups is always starting one set of straight elbow pull-ups at first (kzbin.info/www/bejne/bl7TqK1mnqZrZ68) and assisted pull-ups (using a band) during my next first two rounds. Give it a try, I think you'll find it makes a big difference! P.S. Let me know if it helps!
