Thanks for paying attention to all the details. I got a degree in zoology and science education and I was always most fascinated by the little things. Our lives here on earth all start with the soil the sun and the water. You sharing how intricate life is at the smallest level is much more important then a thousand vista. Also, you have inspired me to order my first new pack in 30 years. Expecting it any day and planning its first adventure. Thanks for you.

In order to see the micro beauty around you, you have to be really tuned into your surroundings. Thank you for sharing and hopefully showing people that the beauty of the wild is not just the expansive vistas, but is also the life that exists at your feet. Thank you so much for sharing. Your video style has really matured and refined since you started out on the AT. Keep telling your story and writing new chapters. Hike on.

Neat vistas. Everywhere. That mountain stream was stunning for a campsite. Glad you have someone to hike with....eventhough being alone is cool, sharing your thoughts of the sights with someone is enjoyable. Safety is paramount.....this is a step up from the AT. But you know that....you've done that... Yes, as others have mentioned, it is nice that you take the time when you can to REALLY observe nature in its splendor. All creatures both great and small! Enjoy your trek...thanks for bring us along when you can 😎.

As someone who's had a pixie or bob for most of my life, I don't recommend cutting your hair short for the first time before a big hike! The biggest pain of having short hair for me is I always have to style it. I can't just pull it back into a pony and forget about it. When camping/hiking, I just have to brush it and try to mush it back into something that looks halfway presentable because I've always disliked hats.

Dixie , When you fill your water bottles/bladders point the opening down stream . You will get less dirt & crud in it , especially if covered with a piece of fine cloth . Love watching & listening to your videos .

M TODD why is that?
@mtodd4723
@mtodd4723 7 жыл бұрын
If you put the bottle opening facing the flow the dirt / gunk just flows right in due to the force of the water . If you turn the bottle around most of the crud flows past the opening . Using a very fine cloth will help even more , this will help save your filter system from premature wear . If you boil or treat your water it will be less gritty , & taste better usually . Some water you just can't help . Hope this helps you Beth . Be safe !

Hi Dixie! I've been watching all your videos and I'm in awe. You're such an inspiration. I live in Sweden and don't know how I would be able to plan a AT hike thru from the other side of the ocean. And I have a husband, kid and work - so I wouldn't know how to leave all of that for like 6 mounts. How ever, we do have some trails in Sweden so when you told us to go buy something new to start gear up for our dream, or start some kind of plan or something that will take us a step closer to our dream, I decided to order a water bottle, a knife, some rain protection and a pair of merino wool trousers to sleep in in my future tent. Looking forward to follow your hike thru on the PCT! :-)

Another great video Dixie!! Now you are really making some progress. Some of the shots of those high ridges are really taking me back. I fell in love with hiking while growing up near the San Bernardino and Los Angeles Mountains. Copy & pasted: June 3 morning update from John Colver. "We just crossed Evolution Creek near PCT/JMT crossing. The creek is 1 to 1.4 feet above the banks. We crossed at widest section on down stream side of bend. [Note: judging from the map that accompanied his message, it looks like they crossed well upstream of both of the usual summer crossings] Water was between chest and chin deep at deepest part of crossing, but slow moving. I am 5' 9". Two of our party are lighter and shorter so we worked as a team to assist each other. So it's doable solo, for some, others not. We crossed at 8 a.m. which was nice because sun is out and we rewarm-ed quickly. There were blocks of ice floating down! So as of today, the key hazards are the regular challenges of river crossing plus cold temperatures. This update is for June 3. It's clear that air temps are still cool (ice on tent at 9000 feet this morning) and it appears that peak snowmelt has yet to occur. While crossing was not difficult today, I expect this river will provide a significant challenge for Nobo PCT hikers currently south of Sierra and anyone doing JMT/PCT after peak snow melt occurs. Given the volume of snow, it seems this river could become impassable at this point by mid/end June. Further upstream (500 m), the creek breaks into several crossings which are less wide but with faster flow. These provide an alternative. Hope any of this is useful." John Ladd note: If northbound and blocked by this crossings, the logical bailout route over Bishop Pass will encounter a nasty cornice. Be safe. Note John Dittli's comment below "I was just over Bishop Pass; follow the "winter route" up the canyon east of the trail, a short steep section but no cornice."

hi Dixie , just bought your book haven't started reading it but if it's anything like your videos it's going to be a fun read. I'm thinking of doing the Great Canadian Trail starting from Nova Scotia heading all the way to British Columbia. I don't think it's going to be a Thruway. I would rather you and I would be starting it next year as I have to get into shape I have one more operation in my camper and it looks like I'm going to survive it I would like to thank you as you have been one of the great motivators for me to make my plans. you may not think of this but you do touch a lot of people and Inspire them keep up the good work and always have fun your friend in Canada Stephen

Amazing documentation of your journey thus far. When you get to it, you really need to take a swim at the hot springs at Deep Creek! After that, you get to hit my beloved Mojave Desert just south of Palmdale. As you are traversing the Angeles Crest, you are going to pass right by my former home on Bouquet Canyon in Leona Valley. We gave some trail magic to hikers as they past our home back in the day! I enjoy your updates on Patreon as well.
