Dixie, your videos inspired me to get out and hike, and it's been a massive joy in my life- I've been suicidal for a long time, and I fully beleive I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for you telling me to "cross the line," see nature, and learn to appreciate life. Your positivity and love of life is an inspiration. This week I broke my ankle, and I just found out I won't be cleared to walk again for 10 weeks. So, needless to say, I'm living vicariously through your PCT journey (and probably rewatching your AT vlogs, too). I'm SO thankful for all that you do, you're an inspiration. Keep it up. Much love, Anna

I feel just the same as you. I was depressed for years after leaving the military, but hiking and the camaraderie I have found is all the best parts of being in the military, just without the military lol. The sense of accomplishment, the relationships you form, the inside jokes...It's just perfect. I'm glad you're still with us! Never give up!

Okay, so, the two pct signs at 1:47. Look closer, one has equine, the other has a crossed out equine. The sign to the right goes to a horse camp, the other is to a camp where horses are not allowed. I have strangely vivid memories of that area because I was starting to have a cold and was oddly delirious. The Horse camp was a nice camp though!

Hi Dixie! Congratulations, you and your editor have somehow managed to capture some of the essence of place and a sense of the camaraderie that develops among hikers and their supporters, which are an extension of the hiking community. That, like the act of thru hiking, is immensely difficult. Your video blogs are arguably the most sophisticated ones I have seen to date. The editing is outstanding, as is the videography, background music and verbal commentary. Thank you. I have come to see thru hiking as an odyssey, a homecoming to our place of origin, reconnecting us with the Wild Earth and all that is wild, free and beautiful. Each footstep is bringing you closer to who you will become. "He not busy being born is busy dying." --Bob Dylan

Fascinating to see the burned-out tree. It keeps living because most of the water a tree uses moves up the outermost portion of the wood.

I've watched all your videos from Boston. You do an amazing job documenting your hikes. I'm really itching to do the AT from mainly your videos and some others..I'm 53 and been clean and sober many years. All the partying makes me a little nervous. Thomas Landers Congrats on sober. Good luck on the future. The saying "hike your own hike" goes for all parts of a hike. If you want to avoid the party scene you can do it. Easy way is to start before the crowds, flip flop, staggering your hike speed etc.

Wonderful. Please consider at some point later in the hike or even after it putting together a video entirely of the nature shots. Those short segments are a great addition to this year's vlogs. I really like the style of the PCT videos with narration and background music over edited video segments. Very nice! Also the high def video is stunning. Keep up the great updates.

Trees can be dead in the middle because the fluid from the roots moves up under the bark. The inner bark, or “phloem,” is the pipeline through which food is passed to the rest of the tree. It lives for only a short time then dies and turns to cork to become part of the protective outer bark from www.arborday.org/trees/treeguide/anatomy.cfm

I am getting knee work done and a little varicose vein repair this summer and fall, but will use some of the winter months to train and do some 15 mile day hikes in the California state parks... who knows, maybe next year will be my year...thanks for posting thise videos!!..Frank T.
