Quietness - oh yes I crave it too. I live in Southern UK and it is hard to find quiet places - no cars, no planes, no farm noises etc. I have even started, a couple of years ago, a note book of the rare "Quiet Places", I stumble upon. We often holiday in Europe and my husband recently told me he loves going to restaurants on holiday as, due to the different language, he can't understand what people are saying and can therefore tune it out. I also try not to pollute my inner being, so no longer watch news about violent things or horror movies. After Covid and having to listen to the news stations, I very rarely put the news on now. I try to fill my mind with the quiet, gentle and beautiful things in life.

😂Is “wuwu” a real word or just a cute one you say?! Being in school during the 60’s and 70’s I watched the hippies usurp Gods good plans and twist them just enough to reclaim them into “new age”. With the Holy Spirit in us he keeps us grounded in Gods original plan. I know it’s why I’ve never wanted to live in a city, only in the country is my heart at peace. When I really started studying the Bible not just reading it I found myself turning off the music to really consecrate. Now some 40 + years later I never have music on. 16 years ago we stopped doing tv except to just watch a movie sometimes. I truly believe he taught me that in my quite times I seek a real conversation with the Lord. But in the silence of nature hearing birds, rain, thunder, the breeze, crickets or even danger moves my senses to calmness. Even being barefooted my whole life has kept me healthier than my counterparts. Zero surgeries and very few illnesses. I know it’s always been his plan for us to live healthy. You don’t know how happy I am that y’all bought a home with extra land! Just think how rich the land will be with horses living there. So I’ve told you how God gave us our first son that was not planned by us. Our plan had always been to buy all our furniture, appliances and home before thinking of children. 😊 Yes, I know how silly that sounds now but we had a plan. Lol Well when we got our baby we soon learned he was allergic to all formulas and we could only give him goats milk. He got double ear infections every two weeks and we’d end up in the ER because his temp would just so high and they tap his spine to make sure it wasn’t meningitis. It was a nightmare for him. During this we knew God was encouraging us to buy a home and we were looking but we could not afford anything we looked at. Our agent said if you really want a home and stay in that price range you must go way up the mountain. Remember we were in the AF so we had to go ask just how far we could live from the base because we got recalled all the time. We were told no further than 50 minutes so up the mountain we went. We really thought we’d find something much closer than that but we ended up buying our dream home 45 minutes away! Yes it was a God thing but at the moment we didn’t know just how much. The first thing we noticed was we went three weeks without our baby getting a temp. That was huge and then his sinuses cleared completely. We were 4500 feet in show country and huge cedar tree, just beautiful. I met a Native American at the little mountain store and he over heard me telling the owner our baby hadn’t been sick in two weeks and the man asked if I was new up there and if so where did I come from? When I said Rancho Cordova, he said that is the valley of death because of how bad the allergies are there. I just looked at him and said how sick our baby had been and no one mentioned allergies. So God moved us sooner than we’d planned and to a place where our baby would thrive. And a bonus was also with no planning I got pregnant and we had our second son. When you can look back and see Gods hand in every move you’ve made you know how much he truly loves you! We have a pond and a creek you will find God always waiting for you there for a visit!

My favorite homemaker chat by far! Was nodding my head in agreement the whole time 😆 I love how the Spirit often has God's people on the same wavelength. Just last week I wrote a blog post about using herbal medicine from a Christian perspective and how paganism has perverted God's original use of the plants, not that Christians have taken something pagan and "Christinized" it. The way you explained it was PERFECT! Congratulations on the house and land- I can't wait to see how you guys steward it and make it your own! 🙌🏼💕

Congrats on the house and land! That is so exciting💕 I loved the video and I can relate so much on needing to eliminate noise. I’m the worlds worst for always having a video, podcast, or even worship music playing. It’s difficult because those things are beneficial but I struggle with finding a balance. I definitely need to be more intentional about turning off the phone and enjoying the quiet more often!

Thank you so much Clara! And yes, I think about this often how blessed we are to have info at our finger tips (especially when I'm working in the garden and have thousands of questions about pests, planting, etc.) but then also balancing that access to info with space. It really requires discipline!

I have missed seeing a video from you. Congratulations on the purchase of a home and property. What a blessing. I feel behind as well but I can’t let that get to me. Worldly chaos, physical issues that make mobility difficult, incomplete projects (like the gardens) can steal my joy. But I find being in the garden is a place of great joy, peace and comfort. A few months ago after watching something on KZbin having to do with the attack on our natural resources I was reminded these are part of creation. The Lord has provided everything we need, plants and meat for food, sun and rain, and the natural resources found in the earth, to the trees of the forest and so much more. It’s intentional and for a purpose and we need to keep that in mind. My father asked me recently, “why do you grow a garden”? I smiled and said, it brings me so much joy, I absolutely love it. And, I know where the food came from and what went into growing it. He smiled and said, “I was thinking of creating a little garden space. Simple and small and just see how that goes. My family has always gardened with flowers and maybe the occasional tomato plant but never a ‘food garden’. My heart was full in that moment and I have been collecting starts for them (even a few in last weeks Azure order) for things I didn’t start myself and we will get that garden going mid May. I never would have thought such a thing would be happening but it is and I pray that growing food will be a beautiful experience for them as it has been for me since 2020. And, that ultimately the see the hand of God and his provision for his creation. Great video Kelli, thank you for sharing.

I have been growing food on my allotment (rented land in the UK) for 4 years. It has changed me. I love sowing the seeds the best. I love opening the packets to see what they look like. To me it is complete magic that something so tiny can grow into such a big plant and even better, I can eat it - as can the local birds and slugs - ggrrrrrrr :) I also love being out in nature and seeing the birds and other wildlife, such as squirrels and butterflies and bees. For the first time I have planted flowers this year. I hope they come up as I cannot wait to have a home full of flowers. I have 3 vases, I think I may need more. My neighbours will love me as they will get the surplus. My husband once met a Jehova's Witness who said in heaven we would all be gardeners. Growing you own food connects you to the land, to nature and the miracle of life.

@@softsophisticate I am experiencing a bird problem for the first time this year! Grrr is about right. Every bean has been plucked out and I replanted only to be plucked out again. I am hanging some netting this time to until they are a few inches up the trellis. I’m working on a way to cover the I ground corn and sunflower seeds before it’s a problem. God has provided everything we need and like you the incredible feeling of joy can not be explained and it has changed me as well. Happy gardening in the UK!

@@cherylpresleigh6403 Yes the birds - Grrrrrr :) Yesterday I saw they ate all my fledgling runner beans. I'm now going to sow them in the ground, with anti-slug stuff sprinkled around and grow them with a jam jar on the top so they get the sun but the birds can't get them, like a mini greenhouse.

@@softsophisticate Tomorrow we are setting up a small veggie garden for my parents and they have a lot of critter pressure too. We’re just going to build a tunnel using hula hoops to cover the row. However, your idea using the jar reminded me of seeing many people use milk jugs for sowing winter seeds. Using a milk jug would allow some holes to be put into it so it allows some of the heat to escape and then it doesn’t get to hot inside of the space. That would be protection too but I’m not prepared for that approach this year so I’ll use the net as planned. I really appreciate the ideas shared, it’s helpful!

Ive been feeling like such a hippie lately with how much I have been enjoying nature with the spring here, trying to stay “in the moment”, and really trying to find peace. Now as a Christian I’m realizing none of that is incompatible with my beliefs, it’s just culturally seen as something else! Lol (of course can go too far, I’m certainly not getting into Reiki or chakras like my past self) It’s taken me a long time to realize a a strong connection with nature is not just for pagans and new agers. Worshipping nature is not the same as being grateful for it, cultivating it, thanking God for His creation.

I always leave your videos feeling calm and inspired. Thank you for sharing yourself with us. It looks like I've got a new book to add to my to-read list (Living the Sabbath). I've recently read The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer and highly, highly recommend it for reclaiming the Sabbath as a part of the Christian walk. There is also a section on silence and solitude, simplicity, and slowing. I think you might enjoy it.

This was absolutely so inspiring Kelli, this was my favorite homemaker chat so far! I agree with absolutely everything you said. I have felt SO strongly about quietness lately and not wanting to be consumed by any distractions so I related to that so much. I’ve had days recently where I don’t even pick my phone up at all and I’m just focused directly on homemaker tasks and it’s been so amazing. I love the freedom of not having the urge to want to be on social media or consuming anything other than Gods word. I’ve been off of IG for several weeks and it feels better that I could ever describe, I do not miss it at all, it’s so freeing! I plan to only get on if I truly feel inspired to post something. Thank you so much for making homemaker chats, I’m so grateful for your words of wisdom ♥️ and congratulations to you all on your new home that is beyond exciting!!!! God is so good! ♥️

Kelli, I have been so convicted in my spirit about quietness over the past few weeks- I was glad to hear God put that on your heart. I also am a podcast girl, love to learn and gather info on The Word, on marriage, Homemaking and my interest in history - but I found myself inundated by information and overwhelmed by all I was taking in. There is a time for quiet and a time for our mind to be engaged. Also really appreciate you taking away from a book what God’s truth is- the more we immerse ourselves in His way the more discerning we can be - not every author we read can be a believer and sometimes we have to just look to the good we can get from their work.

Yes," innundated with information" is spot on. Life is very complicated and my word for this year is "simplify". I shall take a look at the info, such as letters and mail shots, that come into my home and try to stop them, as well as maybe unsubscribe from some regular emails.

Well said! God has blessed us with creation, but people have "stolen" it for evil, to the point that Christians think using herbs is "woo woo". I think it's time we take back what God has given us! Hmm I come from the new age and was only recently convicted.. I used to glorify creation, over the Creator, so I'm still a bit hesitant. I have to take a step back from nature and towards the Lord. One thing I've really enjoyed last summer though was walking barefoot in the forest. Which also seems a bit woo woo.. But I believe there have been studies on that too, also something with negative ions.. And I've really felt my body relaxing walking barefoot, so I think I'll keep doing that. 😊 Thank you for your recommendations. I'll look into the sabbath one.
