This tutorial allowed me to take on a huge project. I am currently halfway through making a 6-ft. blanket for my brother because he got me into Dungeons and Dragons last year, and I thought this looked just like dragon scales, so it was perfect.
@MyTinyKitchen
@MyTinyKitchen 3 жыл бұрын
I also thought it looked like mermaid and dragon scales, so I specicially picked this color to make it my "mermaid" blanket. This would be very pretty in reds and oranges to make it look more like "dragon" scales.

Thank You so much for the tutorial. I've been knitting and crocheting since I was 5 years old, I'm now 55 and I've always tried to master this stitch. I watched your video and did it right the first time. I thank you. This stitch was the last stitch I could never figure out. I'm making a small purse out of the alligator stitch. I have small zippers and I'm going to line it and put in a couple of pockets. I may make a key chain that matches.

I am so glad to see such a clear video on this stitch! I think I like the diagonal over the regular version.
@MyTinyKitchen
@MyTinyKitchen 7 жыл бұрын
I think the diagonal is kind of fun because you can make it however big or small you want it. If you do the traditional one where you go straight across, you have to pick your size first since you have to make the supporting row.

Great job on the tutorial. I’ve watched so many tutorials on KZbin, and everyone one I came across went so fast and never gave enough explanation about where exactly you would stitch into. I have to say that you can be great at one thing, and you can do it well, but not fully understand it enough to teach it to someone. You did though, and thank you for that. Also I appreciate the explanation and advice about the extra stitching. Great tip! You’ve gained a subscriber.

Im a very new crocheter and wanted to make a blanket for my daughter's christmas gift. I really didn't think that I would struggle with this, but figuring out how to hold it to get into the DC to make the 5 was harder than I thought. I had to put it down for awhile lol Then it clicked that I can't be afraid to manipulate it and that on the first post, I'm working top to bottom and on the next, bottom to top. You explained everything perfectly, but my brain and hands didn't want to cooperate lmao Great video and I'm well on my way to a gorgeous blanket ❤

@irmar 4 жыл бұрын
Frankly I prefer doing a single post between the "V"s that are going to be used for scales. First of all it is not necessary to put two stitches and secondly if you don't pay attention you might by mistake make a scale there. Whereas if you see a single post you know you have to just make a sl st and go on.

@MyTinyKitchen
@MyTinyKitchen 7 жыл бұрын
You can certainly try it and see what you think. However, just be aware that this is a directional square, and because it has layers, it's going to be a lot thicker and heavier than traditional granny squares.

Can you advise how to decrease on the diagonal , so you can stitch a rectangle, with this stitch please. 🙏
@MyTinyKitchen
@MyTinyKitchen 4 жыл бұрын
For the decrease, just don't go all the way out to the end. Instead of making the foundation row all the way to the end, stop one section back. As you do that for each row, it'll eventually get smaller and create your decreases.

How would you use this pattern to make a pillow? What would you do for the back if you wanted it to be plain and not patterned like the front and how could you attach it?
@MyTinyKitchen
@MyTinyKitchen 6 жыл бұрын
You can keep doing it diagonally, but make it into a square. If you want the back plain, just do a separate square that is single crochet and then I would attach it with a slip stitch all the way around where the ridges are on the setup row from the back.

I'm having a problem with my crocodile stitches not laying flat. I've loosened my tension and changed to a bigger hook but they still won't lay flat. Any suggestions?

Mine don't lay perfectly flat either. This is more of a dimensional stitch. Depending on what yarn you're using - If it's a natural fiber, you can try wetting it and blocking it to lay flatter.

There's so many variable. What size yarn to what size hook are you using. What is the yarn content. What is your tension like. It's not something I can diagnose blindly. I would suggest going to a local crochet group to see if they can help you troubleshoot in person.

My scales are curling to the right. Does anyone know what I may be doing to cause that? I put it under a heavy book to try and flatten them.

You may have too much tension on that side when crocheting. Or it could also be the yarn, depending on the twist of the yarn.

I am aAlmost done with my crochet scale scarf (triangle scarf) and I noticed the scales are either curling up or are flattened on one side with the other half of the scale hidden behind it. I am thinking about sowing it down afterwards so it looks like what you done. What am I doing wrong?

Most likely your tension is different from the left to right side. I found that the right side was easy (perhaps because I'm right-handed) and I could keep the blanket facing normal, but when working on the left side, I found it easier to turn the blanket sideways so that I could keep an even tension.
