This tutorial allowed me to take on a huge project. I am currently halfway through making a 6-ft. blanket for my brother because he got me into Dungeons and Dragons last year, and I thought this looked just like dragon scales, so it was perfect.
@MyTinyKitchen3 жыл бұрын
I also thought it looked like mermaid and dragon scales, so I specicially picked this color to make it my "mermaid" blanket. This would be very pretty in reds and oranges to make it look more like "dragon" scales.

I am so glad to see such a clear video on this stitch! I think I like the diagonal over the regular version.
@MyTinyKitchen7 жыл бұрын
I think the diagonal is kind of fun because you can make it however big or small you want it. If you do the traditional one where you go straight across, you have to pick your size first since you have to make the supporting row.

Great job on the tutorial. I’ve watched so many tutorials on KZbin, and everyone one I came across went so fast and never gave enough explanation about where exactly you would stitch into. I have to say that you can be great at one thing, and you can do it well, but not fully understand it enough to teach it to someone. You did though, and thank you for that. @irmar4 жыл бұрын
Frankly I prefer doing a single post between the "V"s that are going to be used for scales. First of all it is not necessary to put two stitches and secondly if you don't pay attention you might by mistake make a scale there. Whereas if you see a single post you know you have to just make a sl st and go on.

You can certainly try it and see what you think. However, just be aware that this is a directional square, and because it has layers, it's going to be a lot thicker and heavier than traditional granny squares.

Can you advise how to decrease on the diagonal , so you can stitch a rectangle, with this stitch please. 🙏
@MyTinyKitchen4 жыл бұрын
For the decrease, just don't go all the way out to the end. Instead of making the foundation row all the way to the end, stop one section back. As you do that for each row, it'll eventually get smaller and create your decreases.

How would you use this pattern to make a pillow? What would you do for the back if you wanted it to be plain and not patterned like the front and how could you attach it?
@MyTinyKitchen6 жыл бұрын
You can keep doing it diagonally, but make it into a square. If you want the back plain, just do a separate square that is single crochet and then I would attach it with a slip stitch all the way around where the ridges are on the setup row from the back.

@MyTinyKitchen5 жыл бұрын
Mine don't lay perfectly flat either. This is more of a dimensional stitch. Depending on what yarn you're using - If it's a natural fiber, you can try wetting it and blocking it to lay flatter.
@crazychihuahualady4611 Жыл бұрын
I need help, my dragon/crocodile scales turn in on themselves. What am I doing wrong?
@MyTinyKitchen Жыл бұрын
There's so many variable. What size yarn to what size hook are you using. What is the yarn content. What is your tension like. It's not something I can diagnose blindly. I would suggest going to a local crochet group to see if they can help you troubleshoot in person.
@dangitgayle2 жыл бұрын
My scales are curling to the right. Does anyone know what I may be doing to cause that? I put it under a heavy book to try and flatten them.
@MyTinyKitchen2 жыл бұрын
You may have too much tension on that side when crocheting. Or it could also be the yarn, depending on the twist of the yarn.
@coffeepigeon84907 жыл бұрын
I am aAlmost done with my crochet scale scarf (triangle scarf) and I noticed the scales are either curling up or are flattened on one side with the other half of the scale hidden behind it. I am thinking about sowing it down afterwards so it looks like what you done. What am I doing wrong?
@MyTinyKitchen7 жыл бұрын
Most likely your tension is different from the left to right side. I found that the right side was easy (perhaps because I'm right-handed) and I could keep the blanket facing normal, but when working on the left side, I found it easier to turn the blanket sideways so that I could keep an even tension.
