It’s been great. I added a bigger to it for fall leave clean-up. Way easier than raking. It mulches all the leaves and then bags them

About the choke. Do I have to have the choke on when pulling it out of the garage? Kinda confused.

I only use the choke to start the lawnmower when it’s cold. It warms up fast so you don’t need it on very long

Does this do good on thick grass I have a big yard and near the back(a former swamp) there is some pretty thick grass if not managed would this work on that?

If the grass is really thick (or high) you may need to mow on 5 height and then go over again at the height that you want. BTW The weird thing is that I just purchased this lawnmower and mine says it is a 13.5 hp motor instead of 11.5 hp.

i found that it bogs down on thick or tall grass. but like SaltsNC said just start with a higher height setting on the blade and do slow passes. keep the rpm high and then after each pass lower the blades another level until the grass is the desired height

When do I engage the blades? I had it on and in forward, parking brake off, low speed, low gear and when I engaged the blades, it started vibrating like crazy.

You might want to see if the blades are loose, or if there’s something built up on them

Make sure you have it at full throttle when you engage the blades it should take out most of the vibration

Does it mow in reverse?

You can not mow in reverse. There is a safety on the machine so it shuts down if the blade is engaged and you put the lawn mower in reverse.

I have the M135- 38 Murray. Great mower. However today when I lowered the mowing deck the blades would not turn! When I lifted the deck to the highest level, the blades engaged and it cut. I usually have the deck set on 3 but it blades will not engage. The deck has to be on the highest level. Can you give me an idea of what the problem could be. I really love this mower.

It runs awesome. I have never changed to oil in it still on the same spark plug...it is a really good lawnmower for the money.

It will go up easy. Problem is the tranny might start slipping going down hills. I got a back bank I mow with it. The other day while going down in first gear it started making a whirring noise and was slipping out up gear. I had a yard man do the same thing but it lasted a lot longer before it started coming out of gear. Thank God my brake was still working good or I would have had a nasty crash at the bottom. Only had mine for two years now. These transmissions are all the same on these mowers and they are complete junk! Other than that I am pretty happy with it. Does anyone know the price for a new tranny on one of these?

When you change speeds on this mower, while mowing in motion, do you have to press in the clutch/ parking brake pedal or do you simply adjust the speed setting (the yellow shifter underneath the dash on the left hand side)?

Had mine 6yrs never changed oil same plug same battery replaced blades couple times n spindles set out on weather 3 winters starts first try beats the hell out of high price plastic mowers I know because I own the also they stay broke

Hello, I was using the mower got about half way done with my mowing, I disengaged the blades when backwards, then put put the mower in forward, engaged the blades again and then all of a sudden I had a lot of white smoke come out of everywhere. I have had this mower for awhile and have used it at least a dozen times with no problems, what could of happened? The terrain I was mowing was not completely level. I waited a half hour and tried to start it again, it will not turn over. Please help :) P.S. Looked at air filter and it's very clean. Any suggestions? Thank you :)

You may want to check the oil level. Does it try to turn over or is it completely dead?

the only thing i dont like about mine unless im just cluelesss is u cant mow in reverse so if yard doesnt line up perfect theres always 1 spot u have to go over again and it messes up your lines

Those wheels on the deck are anti-scalp wheels. Work great. These are not on 30" cut riders and it sucks!. Is that unit a "Never Change The Oil", "Just Add". Is there an oil filter. I've changed oil on mowers stating this- Briggs & Straton motors. Oil is absolutelyfilthy and usually low. I change the oil!

I haven't had to change mine yet but according to the manual there is a type of valve to drain the oil for oil changes and some models come with a sleeve to get the oil to drain further out from the mower.

Best advice u will ever get. Buy the smallest mower with the largest engine that way u don't have to run it wife open m it will last forever same with a c for your home always install larger a c than u need to cool your home u don't work it to death

My mother bought one of these for her small acreage. Came crated up and had to be assembled. Okay, not too bad, but KZbin was much more concise than the instructions were. The deck was attached on one side, but not the other. That was a fun issue to find out about. The choke cable broke within a few months. A call to MTD had the warranty person telling her to load the mower up and take it 50+ miles to confirm it was the choke cable and not, “Bad gas.” I was able to temporarily repair the cable with zip ties and electrical tape until a new cable from Amazon arrived. I knew how to replace it because the Craftsman mower she had before this one did the same thing. It’s a defect. Then just past one year of ownership, the PTO cable for the blades broke. Again, she has to haul it 50+ miles to the nearest authorized repair center. I’d highly recommend not buying this mower. It has been nothing but issues and their warranty service has been less than helpful.

Murray is made by MTD (along with 20 other brands). It does not get more basic than this mower. You aren’t buying quality with a low end mower such as this. Go price the $10,000 plus zero turns if you want quality, smooth ride, features, cut cut, and reliability.

Bought new one just like it was on sale 700 would not start I offered 500 salesman went to write up n I fixed it while he was gone. I've used it 6 seasons with a huge yd in the country out of the 6 yrs it's been left outside in the weather 3 yrs still has same battery had to jo twice in 6yrs battery been on charger one time thought battery had finally died all it took was a charge. This is the third time I've replaced blades replaced spindles once because I'm rought on a mower NEVER changed oil on the engine added probably a pint over the years small mower with a 12 hp. I think it's 12 perfect mower I have zero turns n a husgavana 26 hp n 54 cut that neither mower will touch this lil mower best money I ever spent cutting with it today

Mtd made Murray. Typical mtd owning all mowers like Craftsman and bolens and troybilt and cub cadet and now Murray. Cool rider tho man. I still mow with a vintage mtd rider a Montgomery Ward made by mtd from the early 90s. I own 6 and glad I do. Work em like dogs and they don't quit mtd👍👌

The reason he can get off his whole running is the safety switch under the seat is not working u can jo.tjis n do the same or jp.tje other safety switch n cut backwards should not make videos when u do not know what u r talking about but a grown man that can't use a mower better be watching his wife

The safety switch under the seat IS working and the reason why I can get off of this lawnmower with it running is that you have to set the parking brake and disengage the blade, once that is done you can get off of the lawnmower and clear what ever might be in your way.
