I have read that it is better for engine longevity to use a non synthetic oil for the first 50 hours of operation for a brand new snowblower. This allows for proper break-in of the engine. I believe that's why Ariens oil is non synthetic. Makes sense.

I also recommend to use Mobil1 synthetic oil for 5w-30 oil (Motor Oil), you really don't need to use the Ariens brand unless you want to spend extra for the lower quality oil.

Very nice. Thank you. I just changed the oil on my Deluxe 28 snow blower after watching your video. The part you show to use the extra wrench to make sure only the rear end is unscrewed was helpful. On mine it was hard to get the tip off, I applied some wd-40 after the job was done to make sure it screwed in easily.. Would be extremely useful if you could create another video showing how to clean the spark plugs and other maintenance on this model.

Jason, just looking at some of the comments and posts and I saw yours. On some Ariens snow blowers, I believe the oil drain pipe could be on the other side of wheel on frame. I saw a video on KZbin that you need to take off the tire/wheel to have access to the drain pipe. My Ariens is like this video and is in back.

Nice job, and presentation. Thank you. My beat up 724 appreciates it! I have the exact model 932046, with the Tecumseh engine, which is on the label to the rear of the unit. FYI for those with Tecumseh, replace the spark plug while you are at it folks with the Champion 104 - 5122, aka Champion RN4C which should be enough information to cross reference any brand of spark plug. Just replaced my 12 year-old plug with the above, and no more motor laboring, especially at idle when it revs up, then down. PS: Don't be like me. Replace plug at least every two seasons! ;)

HomeOwnerRepair I have an ariens 624, when I try clearing snow the machine propels forward about maybe 1 foot then just stops as if I am hitting dry pavement. When I lift the machine off the ground so the tires are completely off the ground the machine somewhat runs normally buy this is obviously tiring and not correct. Any idea why when I try letting the self propel do it's work it just doesn't? It usually keeps banging like I'm hitting high spots on the concrete

Caution! Everyone should refer to the owner's manual for their particular snowblower. My snowblower is the Deluxe 28 bought at Home Depot - it has the Ariens Snow Engine PGH45607. My manual says specifically to insert the dipstick into the filler neck and turn clockwise until fully seated, then remove the dipstick by turning it counterclockwise and check the oil level. It's important to do this properly in order not to under- fill/overfill the crankcase with motor oil.

I've got the DeLuxe 28 SHO with the AX engine. The manual says to "Insert the dipstick into the filler neck and turn clockwise to fully seated. Then remove the dipstick by turning it counter-clockwise. Check the oil level shown on the dipstick (179/208/254cc only). Hmmm, that's odd. I noticed that the DeLuxe 28 SHO and DeLuxe 30 have a 306cc engine. But the engine manual is for the Ariens AX engines so I guess the procedure would be the same for all size engines. It doesn't mention any different procedure for the larger engines.

A couple of years ago I acquired an oil vacuum extractor. With multiple cars, power sports, power equipment, doing traditional oil changes DIY was becoming a royal pain in the backside. Now, the vacuum extractor drains everything with no need to play with the drain bolts or jack up the cars. The extractor makes the process a lot faster and a lot cleaner. For the cars, I'll change the oil filter every half dozen or so oil changes. Highly recommended.

My nephew works in a small engine shop. He told me never to store my Ariens blower without oil in the engine. I usually change it in late October/early November. This way, if I break something, or need a part, I can get it before I need to use the blower. I do drain all the gas at the end of winter. I have an older Ariens with Tecumseh engine, live in Pennsylvania, store the unit in a detached, unheated garage. It's been working well for me for 25+ years, if I run it 2 times or 10 times a season.

You should use any 5w-30 weight oil. It’s thinner and will make the machine easier to start in cold weather.

The wrenches used are a 12MM and a 16MM The ones used in this video and in most of the videos that we do are the GearWrench brand. We have them for sale in our Amazon store. Here is a link to them: amzn.to/33icMAg

The owner's manual that came with your Ariens snowblower should state the proper oil weight and capacity for your machine.

the engine manual says you crank the oil cap completely down and then turn it off again to check it. you say you don't tighten it down. who is right? you or the book.it is on page 3 of the engine manual. also some say put the who quart in others say three quarters. again who is right?

You have to fully turn it, otherwise it doesn't really dip the way it should. Yeah, always screw it fully to test it. Also, after the oil change, let the engine run and recheck the level.

You should always screw down the dip stick all the way when checking the oil. Not sure why you don't do that. Seems like a rookie mistake.

@cwqrpportable

Some engines, particularly Japanese brands, like Honda, specify not to seat the dipstick. With the Ariens engine though, you do have to seat the dipstick and then remove by turning counter-clockwise
