Banks do the same with cars. They repossess cars and then sell them for a fraction of its value. The previous owner is then expected to still pay the shortfall. In my opinion, that is ludicrous and utter theft.

Change the interest system that the banks use, if bank charge 10% on the cost of the house, then add the 10% to the cost, the sum should then be pay over the 20 to 30 years, installments will be far lower
