Got me a white one exactly for the reason you mention: LED strips and how the HomePod mini “reflects” colours)

The effect is pretty good, especially if you're using things like Philips Hue Play Bars with Hue Sync - the HomePod Mini becomes part of the display!

Thanks for the shoutout! Hope this bit of info is useful to your UK based viewers. Got my 1st HomePod Mini delivered yesterday, from John Lewis,. Went for the white, and set it up along with a Nanoleaf Thread bulb. Not sure about your comment re what model iPhone you need. Mine’s a 7, and I was able to get the Mini to update via the Home app. (Also updated my bulb’s firmware via the Nanoleaf app.)

Sounds like the basis of a very promising smart home set up you've got there! On the iPhone comment - that's just the minimum specs needed to set up a HomePod Mini, so you'll be absolutely fine with a 7!

Why did they stop the big HomePod? Will it come back? These don’t work with Apple TV do they?

Realistically - the price. Siri never made enough impact to appeal to smart home users back in the day and HomeKit was too restricted, but the killer was the astronomical price tag!

Will they come back? I hope so! I predict that maybe next year, Apple will introduce more smart speakers in future, possibly with a refreshed HomePod - featuring Thread and a lower price tag!

Finally - they HomePod Mini DO work with AppleTV - it can just be a little more awkward to set up. You can even use Siri on HomePod mini to control the AppleTV itself - so definitely worth playing around with if you have one already! Then again, the new AppleTV (2021) brought with it a brand new Siri enabled remote, so that might be even easier for commands!

When will Lossless audio come to HomePod? I hear a lot of hype but I don't really get what it is 😕

It's rumoured that Lossless Audio will be coming to HomePod/HomePod Mini at some point in the future. But, it's unclear when. I would expect to get some update at WWDC next month! Nice review. A glaring "bad" about this product is that unlike the homepod, it does not play nicely with macbook.
