HomePod mini Unboxing and Setup (in 2023!)

Any tips you guys have for a first-time HomePod user like myself?

I have a Google home mini that i got for free. I think i used it once. Lol. I do use my Amazon Echo Spot that i won at a Christmas party. That's my alarm clock. 😎 I've heard the Home Pod minis are pretty cool, but i don't own any other Apple products, so one doesn't really fit in with all my Android products. If i ever get back into the Apple ecosystem, I'll probably pick a couple up. That's part of the sickness. Lol. If i get an iPhone, i have to get Airpods Pro 2, an Apple watch, an iPad or MacBook etc. With Android, i just buy whatever & don't feel pressured to buy everything at once. No need, because they don't work together seamlessly like Apple products.

As far as know with iOS17 you can ask Siri “play music on Spotify” and she will play it on your iPhone/iPad and automatically AirPlay it on the HomePod. All this is happening without you doing anything. Fortunately Siri is assistant of habits and after some “play music on Spotify” requests, she will understand in the future that your music services of choice is Spotify and won’t be necessary to say “on Spotify” anymore. Keep in mind that this will work if your iPhone is on the same network as your HomePod. Cheers 🎉 Still waiting for native support for Spotify on the HomePod tho😅

I had a diabolical experience with my HomePod mini, I bought it three years ago to listen to my music and as a way for it to work in conjunction with my iPhone to supercede my ageing Amazon Echo dot 1st gen . Unfortunately it took hours to set up because it wouldn’t connect to my HomeKit devices, it also wouldn’t allow access to my phones data such as calendar and messaging, I spent days in the phone to Apple getting it fixed! Not ideal. Tbf My experience with the HomePod mini wasn’t great after I was able to get it to work as it was very limited in functionality, I ended up selling it and bought another echo dot!

Fair enough. I will probably make a video on this eventually but my experience has been...middling. Spotify as expected is iffy on this, and while it's fine when paired to my Apple TV as a speaker, it occasionally has issues when doing that too. I think I'll keep it because I could make videos on it and test features with it, but I can see why one would go for cheaper offerings from Google and Amazon instead.
