Scenes from Homer Alaska in February 2012, during the most severe winter on record. We use Honda snowblower to help clear our friends jeff and kelly Lockwood 's driveway from 6 feet of snow, a plow could never accomplish this. read stories about Alaska life and wildlife! www.alaskabearsandwolves.com/

This particular house is at about 1000 ft elevation. Even now we have 5 ft of solid snow on the ground, while the town of Homer has grass showing......Trust me. It's my yard. We are still shoveling.

The Honda is the best snowblower you can get. I got a Honda 1332 I picked up used from local dealer. Wish I could try snow clearing it with it. Can’t wait to use it

I know I'm late to the party on this video -- it showed up in the sidebar of blizzard videos -- but I can't imagine dealing with that much snow! You have a beautiful property! I live in northern Illinois where snow is measured in inches, not feet. Sometimes we'll get 18-24 inches at a time, but that's nowhere near what other parts of the country get. I've never been to Alaska, but hope to get there soon. Thanks for sharing this!

Chicago area? We are northwest suburbs. Its been calm for the past 3 years or so and just this year we got a measly 1 inch every week. 2011 was a real monster.

We live in the northern suburbs, 5 miles from the state line. Yes, 2011 was horrible; 2015 wasn't great either. We moved to Virginia in February 2015 the day after we got 19" of snow, but we moved back to the Chicago area 6 months ago for family reasons. At least the midwest knows how to handle/manage their snow.

That brings memories. Our first year up here in Tahoe, were lived at 7500 feet, and while away we got 5 feet over 3 days. The big MTD was up for it, but I did just that of having to make one pass, then knock down a couple feet on the next one. Now I know that even with my Honda, I need to get out and snow blow before the snow gets much more than 2 feet. Even with our 30 year high in 2011 (700" at Squaw), I was able to keep up though some were double days before and after work.

I've got a wonderful solution that my late grandmother did to solve the problem of clearing snow off the driveway in the winter months: BUILD A SMALL 'WINTER' GARAGE at the road, so that your vehicle is already at the road, and then you only have to put on a pair of snowshoes to walk out to the 'winter' garage and you don't have to do much snow clearing at all. You use a toboggan to drag supplies back to the house. It would only be used a few months of the year, not year round.

I am humbled. We had 3-4 ft this winter here in the high prairie of Sand Hollow Idaho. We usually get 6 inches at a time and it doesn't last. I've had years of being able to golf a day in every month of the year! Yes it was cold but die-hards don't mind the cold. Have you experienced this again since 2012? Best regards to you all there in Homer Alaska. God be with you.

That is some serious snow, the most I have ever dealt with is 42 inches. Just wondering if there was a reason you waited for the snow to stop before hitting it. On big storms I may remove the snow a couple of times. Either way its looks beautiful there. I am love to ski so I love snow. Take care

My area of Wisconsin gets quite a bit more snow than the city of Superior, due to heavy "Lake Effect" storms off Lake Superior..... We get up to 200" a season Areas of Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula get as much as 400", because the peninsula sticks right out into the lake... Due to it's location at the SW corner of the lake, Superior gets almost no Lake Effect snowstorms......

According to the National Weather Service, brad, Homer gets about the same amount of snow as Seattle and Portland.... Yes, it is true that the mountains near Homer get more, but then again so do the mountains east of both Seattle & Portland .... The simple fact is that Homer, because it's a coastal area, usually gets far less snow than inland areas of Alaska...

If you were to keep them in the winter, you would have to keep them in a well insulated coop all winter. If you left them outside they would literally freeze. Temperatures range from -20 to 35 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter months. Better to ask than assume though.

See my video "Welcome to Minnesota". Darn storm kept blowing in the 1000' long driveway going into where my shop is. The owner doesn't always get around to blowing the driveway so I have to do it sometimes. I'm hoping to get the Bercomac blower mounted to my big Toro Garden tractor before winter so I don't have to use my John Deere little 524 walk behind. I once did the entire 1000' driveway with my JD 524 walk behind. I don't really look foreward to doing that again and freezing my azz off.
