Really good review of this plugin. I've been using this for a few days and so far I really like it. I have found it works best after I have mixed a song without it first as best as I can. At that point I bring in Abby Road 3 and cycle through the speaker options. This will make any imperfections in the mix stick out like a sore thumb, usually in the lower mids. Abby Road 3 can help take your mixes up a notch or two when you don't have state of the art equipment to work with.

Snake Oil Guy says you need a 3rd speaker that appears in the eye of the triangle between two mixing speakers. I bought this plugin to use as a good reference. I mix in mono with Aventone. Then spread out a mix with NS10s + subwoofer. Then check my mixes with headphones - open / closed. Will try creating a mix with ABS3 on the Master Bus. Then muting it and mixing down. So far my mixes are decent. They can always be better. Wondering how this might translate with VR tech - New Audio Technology / Waves VR!!

Thanks for the review - totally different from the 'Snake Oil?' review (so called review!) as you've taken the trouble to explain what Waves are trying to achieve. I use the original NX plugin but find that my mixes don't always translate well when listened to through speakers (usually an NX mix has too much ambience/reverb through speakers) so a definite learning curve necessary to make the required compensation and I wouldn't recommend total reliance on the NX technology for mixing - I don't anticipate adding this new plugin to my arsenal. I also use the Sonarworks and AKG 702s but if I compare the generic compensation eq curves for both systems they are disturbingly quite different! Why this is so and which I should lean towards I've yet to determine. Again, reliance on either without learning the foibles to be avoided. One last thing, which is literally messing with my head - when rotating the studio past a critical point anti-clockwise the sound level should increase from the left ear to the right when the left ear is physically further from the left speaker than the right! In this review that didn't seem to be the case - I wait to be educated by the wise in this respect.....

Hello David, here's the Tips to Remember PDF I made for you. Hope you like it. 1. Reference the mix you've made on as many multiple speaker systems as you have available - or until you're convinced that your mix will sound excellent on most, if not all, speaker systems. 2. Be dilligent about taking breaks. A good rule of thumb is to work for fifty minutes and then give yourself a ten minute break. Be certain that you take breaks often enough and for whatever time you require to be alert. 3. As you develop your understanding and skills, be certain to make templates for your style of working on various projects. These templates will help speed up your workflow for future projects that come your way. 4. As best as you can, be subtle with your EQ and compression methods. Be careful not to overdo - or underdo - any of your mixes. Realize that the finesse you bring to your mixing sessions will become better over time. 5. If possible, take at least a 24 hour break and relisten to your mix before you send it to your client. Be careful to give yourself both enough time to hear the mix with fresh ears and to be able to make any necessary corrections. 6. In order to save yourself money, time, and frustration be certain to have a thorough understanding of how to make maximal use of your DAW's stock plugins before you buy new ones. 7. Make your studio - your mixing environment - as acoustically good as you can. It's worth the time and effort. 8. According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, some hearing loss is inevitable as one gets older. Noise-induced hearing loss is something that is avoidable. You can use the provided link to read about it in detail. For the purposes of a mixing engineer, avoiding unnecessary hearing loss is as simple as mixing at low volume levels. www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/noise-induced-hearing-loss

It's not really fair to judge this against a good pair of studio monitors. Along with the studio monitors there's the cost of changing your room to provide the best possible sound. If you are starting from scratch that's not going to be very cheap. I've been tempted to get this and I've seen some negativity from people who don't really seem to understand what the purpose of this plugin is for. Also, maybe I'm wrong but it seems to me the head tracking part is just 'bells and whistles' to show off and doesn't have much use in using it to create your mix. To me it seems you would want to have your "virtual head" in a stable center position so the movement of your IRL head doesn't affect the sound coming into your headphones. Maybe I'm missing something.

Just a tip guys. If you get the 'Audio Hijack' app, you can run the plugin over your entire computer system audio, 24/7, outside your daw, so you don't have to worry about forgetting to turn it off in your daw. You also don't have to drag tracks in your daw to reference against :) This is what I've started doing. It's saved me a bit of hassle!

NX transfers well for me, actually it's close but I'm more confident. BTW, isn't this a beautiful plugin. This is a good plugin for headphone producers and engineers.

Dave, a couple of times in your video you mention that turning to the left results in the sound migrating to your left headphone driver. Surely turning to the left should result in migration toward the right driver, no ? I have Waves Abbey Road Studio 3 and that’s how it works for me ! Great breakdown of this innovative plugin, thank you.

It's the same as with microphone emulations, if your headphones are crappy no amount of DSP will turn them into Abbey Road studio monitors. It's physically impossible. Of course, the binaural modeling can still make sense, and the reflections might work if you use extremely high quality headphones and have a measured EQ correction curve, either in the plugin or by Sonarworks.

Hello, Made Easy, I am very happy to see your video. It's great. I have been following your channel and seeing your previous video about using monitor headphones to mix and master. So, I have a few questions I would like to ask 1. Can this set of plug-ins replace the monitor speakers for mixing and mastering? If it can be replaced, how much does the monitor speaker cost? 2. Is it necessary to buy it together with Sonarworks? If so, is it to hang both of them on the bus at the same time? 3. Is it necessary to buy a separate professional monitor headphone amp when using headphones with plug-ins like acoustic simulation and correction? If so, please recommend a few, thank you very much.

1. Yes 2. No 3. No

@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy OK, thank you very much for your answer, because I don't currently have a good acoustic room, and I flow between multiple cities, so this plugin is very suitable for my mixing and mastering. But I see that there is too little support for monitoring headphones in the plug-in. Is it really more professional and better than Sonar work? Because Sw has a lot of monitor headset support, I need your detailed answer, thank you.

No Headphone can bring you the opportunity to mix LCR, because the Center is missing, thats the big advantage of even "cheaper" studio monitors, not even an expensive headphone can give you and also this plugin can`t. I would always prefer some Hs7 for 200 bugs each, over any headphone.
