I'm so happy you are doing a series on the Behringer X-Touch. Owning one myself but using it with Logic I gotta say in terms of the "Encoder Assign"-section it does the exact thing written on the buttons. For example if I press the Track Button once I can also turn encoders to adjust the volume of the 8 displayed Tracks... However if I press it twice it gives me the option to edit the parameters for the currently highlighted selected track including Volume, Pan and the Inserts. For the Pan Button it is exclusivly for the Pan of the displayed Tracks EQ brings up the default Logic Equalizer and now you can edit the equalizer with the knobs and scroll through the parameters with the left and right arrow key next to the zoom button If you press Send Button once you can add send destinations to the currently displayed tracks, but if you press it twice it will give you the advanced parameters for the selected track like volume to the send post-, prefader etc. The Plug-In Button let's you choose which plugin to open on the currently seen 8 channels and if you press it twice you can choose which plugin to edit (selected with the first knob) from the currently selected channel and if you press that knob it will bring up the selected plugin and you can (like with the EQ Button) edit the parameters of the plugin and scroll with the arrow keys Inst at least on a Audiotrack operates the same as EQ, but if you have a Instrumenttrack it brings up the current Instrument and again you can edit all parameters inside the plugin.

Thank you for taking the time to write that out. Logic is the one DAW that I don’t own anymore (that’ll change) and I’ve been curious how it handles MCU. It SHOULD be pretty damn tight considering that one of the original Mackie control surfaces was the Logic Controller that I believe got rolled up into the Mackie Control Universal or MCU, which is what the X-Touch emulates 1-to-1. You’ve been using it for a while it sounds like, can you for the sake of anyone reading this, tell us if you’d ever go back to just a keyboard and mouse? How does the control surface affect your relationship with the DAW and therefore the music?

@@G_handle Sorry for the late response, didn't get a notification. The unit as absolutely straight forward when working with logic. Every button and fader does exactly what you would it expect to do. I'm currently using it to control volume and panning of all my channels and depending on the sessions it's mostly like 30-40 Tracks, sometimes even more. The only plugins I currently control with the knobs are the SSL Bus Compressor and the SSL Channelstrip, because most other plugins I use don't make much sense (for example Soothe) to work on the controller, because way to many parameters to control. Wouldn't want to go back to mouse control only because it is way to comfortable to just grab the fader you want to adjust. I would say in terms of my relationship with the daw I'm now more focused on listening to what I'm doing instead of reading values on the screen. If my desk would be bigger I would also consider pruchasing an extender but because of the limited space it is difficult to fit another unit.

Thanks! I'm looking for a touch controller for Logic. To me it's either this one or the Faderport. I don't have a problem with Behringer as I've had other items by them and have been good with their quality. I wish Behringer made a 16 track as one piece instead of having to buy the extender. One of the reasons why I'm leaning towards the Presonus. Anything bad about the Presonus?

I like the X touch and the extender. It works very well with my DAWs. I believe that because Behringer bring things in at very affordable prices, their products are no good. I have a few Behringer items and I find them very good. Thank you for reviewing the X Touch.

Hey Dave, the single fader XTouch I had came with a number of overlays for the master section that conformed to the various DAWs it worked with, which made all of the button programming easier to work with...did this unit not include them?

Really?That is a good idea! No, this unit did not come with any overlays, but it should. That would make switching from DAW to DAW way easier. Maybe they can be purchased as a seperate item? I'll have to check that out

So after 5 years of using the XTouch It's a solid kit. I found more pros then cons with the unit. However the internal power supply just went out. I picked up the Icon Platform M+. If I had it to do over again I would with pick up another XTouch.

Awesome video Unc!!!!! Scrub, and Nudge work in Logic. Pretty much every soft key does. One thing that I found is that when I program the Function keys to my liking is that every once in awhile they revert back to default. Luckily I save a preset with my preferences so I don't have to program all over. I don't know if that's Logic glitch or an X Touch glitch.

Studio One is the only DAW company that does NOT have audio / midi scrub..... Uhggg so frustrating even V7 does not include it. My Cakewalk back in 1998 had scrub... LoLoL
