Thanks for the great video, Dave. I found my favourite sound, Tape 99. Cheers.

Good choice!

For me the Tape 99 is subtle enough to add to my mastering chain if I want a touch of analog...the other 3 are auditioned on the mix buss to see which adds the flavor I'm looking for there...

Great video, David! I have been a big fan of this plugin since I compared it to a real tape machine. When a customer can't afford an analog hardware mix or master, the IK tapes are what I turn to these days. My favorite combo is, Machine 80, GP9, 15 IPS on tracks except bass and kick drum. Machine 80, 15 ips with 456 on group busses. Then Machine 99 GP9 on the mix buss for the last effect and then if mastering one more round of Machine 99 (true stereo off) with whatever tape formula works best. I use these in combination with Slate virtual console collection ot Kazrog True Iton. Sometimes both!

Great! Thanks for watching. The only issue for me with their tape machine plugins is they are very CPU heavy. So you can't load up more than a couple in a session.
@RealHomeRecording3 жыл бұрын
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy true. For tracks, I bounce them during what I call the "pre mix". Using REAPER also helps.

@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy I have discovered that high CPU load too. Any ideas on a work around? I'm a big fan of your analog plugins course (fantastic course!!) where you have a tape machine on many (most) of the tracks. Options?
@jamescuttsmusicjcm5013 Жыл бұрын
@@kevinwhitaker914 There is no way around it really because it is the high CPU use that is responsible for it sounding great. It is doing quite a bunch of things in its processing. If you want to run multiple instances though but can only run one at a time (for example), you can always render/freeze tracks to free up CPU for more instances. :).

The IK tape plug ins are the best of any plug in emulation in my opinion!

I do really love their tape machine plugins for sure :)

A brilliant review, thank you. I love both of them, but the 99 really seems to make the track elevate & float in an effortless way (if that makes sense to you!)

hey what happened to the analog mixing series i practically use those techniques to mix but I want to take it into the effects and mastering I learnt a lot about how music really works in that series

they are, but if you only use 1 plugin its not too bad

Freeze / Render if you have to. It all adds up. They use the CPU because they need to.

IMHO these tape emulators are a waste of money. The sound differences are so subtle that the mass market music consumers will never notice, especially as the majority use mp3. I see these plug-ins for producers who really want to tweak their sound for fun. I grew up with these hardware machines and frankly am happy to see them pass over. @$100 per plug-in I can only ask why bother? IK make some great software but I think these are just an appeasement. On another note "ips per second" is redundant since ips is Inches per second. Thanks for a great informative video. 😍

Ok, I appreciate your points. Thans for watching!
@jamescuttsmusicjcm5013 Жыл бұрын
Nah. They rule. Gotta be honest. You can hear the differences even in mp3. Perhaps not on phone speakers though. Rofl. But then again, just because people don't know how to listen to music properly any more, doesn't mean you have to sacrifice the quality of your productions. ;).
