Thank you so much for taking the time to show these in detail! As a homeschooling mom considering wether to move on to first grade with this curriculum or repeat kindergarten, it is EXTREMELY helpful to be able to really see what the content is about in order to make that decision. Thank you!!!

I really appreciate you taking the time to flip through all the pages. This is my first year homeschooling and I will be adding my youngest next year who will be in 1st grade and I'm having a hard time deciding what I want to use with her, feeling overwhelmed lol! Thank you for this video and all your other home school videos, I've been watching a lot of them!

New subscriber here! Found your channel from "Vloves" recent shout out video. I seen your thumbnail with an ACE test and I got excited! We are a homeschooling family and have been using ACE for 5 years. My husband graduated through ACE.

I would love to see flip throughs of all of 1st grade. We're not using ACE but this is making me feel much better about the progress my daughter is making on Math-U-See...she's struggling with the 100 chart but it's placed so early in the year! I may use a few PACEs for supplement toward the end of the year for concepts that she is struggling with in MUS.

+Erin Kimmel that is a smart idea. I love that we can take a break from ACE and we can do the diagnostic and step back into it.

I guess I need all of first grade. I would like science as well. and I'm curious about the animal science. is it a must for science? if I skip it in your opinion would that really make a difference? I'm trying to get my husband to let me eBay the curriculum I have and switch completely to Ace. again thank you for the videos.

+H. Homeschool Academy do you have a grade preferences
@JustSewTrish8 жыл бұрын

When I was considering switching from RightStart math (it's all you teaching every lesson every step) I tested my 6 year old and she tested into the second grade level of ACE before she got bored and quit. Hubby wouldn't let me switch over lol I was like drats I want self taught lessons.

I did RightStart to begin but now I have 4 doing lessons I don't have the time in the day to keep up with it so I changed over to Math U See which they can do with DVDs or I can teach them depending on the child. My oldest is actually liking it because she can go on her own pace instead of dealing with waiting on me.
@Tanya_loudestgarden8 жыл бұрын
Yeah I personally think it's a great set. It is not what I would have chosen. I would rather have something like ACE or LifePac etc that my kid can do without me but my husband really wanted to do it and he still wants us to. I might get him to start doing math.

Love the video!!! Question, the test in the middle of the booklet, is that completed in the middle or saved for the end?

you pull it out when you issue the book and save it until the book is finished.when they are ready, you then give them the test.

What other math programs have you used (even if with other children)? And what do you find superior about ACE? I've only ever used Saxon, so I'm very curious :)

Do you see yourself sticking with ACE for the duration? What do you like about it that the other programs didn't offer? Again, I'm just so curious about other homeschool curriculum! lol
@JustSewTrish8 жыл бұрын
+ZannaTheGreat I like to flip flop on curriculum. For math, eventually, they might go to saxon. But for now, we might stick with ace. I love that it is independent of me, easy to manage, the kids enjoy it, it is mastery so we can work on the topics we need without the busyness of unneeded review, we can take the diagnostic test and know what we need to work on.
@ZannaTheGreat8 жыл бұрын
Sound like an awesome fit; something I definitely want to try! I'd love to see a higher grade level of the math flip through :) Thanks for your awesome videos! :)

@Volleyball_Chess_and_Geoguessr8 жыл бұрын
Does this seem fast paced to you? Like they need to learn how to write a 2 and adding 1 to small numbers, practice for a few pages and then a few weeks later adding up to 100? Either it was too easy for them in the beginning or there's not enough between. Am I wrong? I just have a 3 year old. She's at the level of the beginning and could never progress that quickly. Maybe just because she's 3?

I know I'm not Trish lol but just a thought, you can use alpha phonics for phonics and the dolch soft words list for sight words, you can start off with phonics flashcards, basically a-z but when you show each letter, give the phonics sound instead of the letters' names. Once your child has a strong foundation to stand on (knowing almost all or all of the sounds), then move on to CV blending a.b ab, a.d ad, this is in alpha phonics as well, you can also try teaching your child to read in 100 easy lessons and also i think it's called read sing learn or something like that, anyway that's a curriculum, both are. Then putting the sight words on flashcards, like the phonics words, once your child starts to read with phonics, dolch has words for each grade and is the list to refer to. You can introduce a few words at a time, depending on age and child's personality (how good their memory and attitude towards learning is), once the reading starts, CVC blending and/or word family reading gets pretty good, you can start on i can read beginning books, when you're still on phonetic sounds, before you get to the sight word learning, you can start Bob books (set one), or any beginner readers that are phonetically decodable only, yes they'll be reading by that time, so once you get to sight words, buy the sight words Bob books or other beginner books, so make sure to look through whatever book you decide to get and find the non phonetic words, or sight words and introduce them first so reading will be easier for your child.
