Thanks for this wrap up. I have. Rising 9th grader. I would love to see how to make better use of the TGTB History curriculum for high school. I agree about TGTB not prioritizing the high school levels. I decided to use level 7 and a few books studies for 9th grade. Since it’s my understanding there will be no Year 4. Their plan is for a writing class or something. Thanks for sharing. 🥰
@simplejoyfilledliving4 жыл бұрын
They changed their mind on Year 4 when we were already started so our new plan is dual enroll for language arts for year 4. Also they are adding 1 semester courses for American and British lit, which is weird because most states require a whole year of each. It sounds like your plan is a good one for 9th grade.

I got the notification while I was making muffins, so while they are baking I sat right down to watch this video!😄 You have me sold on Fluenz (my daughter wants to take Spanish), you have me looking into Shormann, and you gave me hope for TGAB working in high school. // I think I relate to you so much bc of how y’all have “evolved” as homeschoolers. I am becoming more eclectic as we continue, and seeing and hearing how your choices have worked has given me confidence to make our own curriculum path. Thank you!🤗 ** Side note, my daughter is probably the opposite of Katie. Her favorite subject is LA, and she’s terrified of Biology!
@simplejoyfilledliving4 жыл бұрын
I have heard that Fluenz Spanish is really good! I would have preferred for Katie to do Spanish too but she wanted to do French because of dance. I hope you have a great year next year. I am really excited to hear how you both like high school. We really love it.

Im already thinking of the novels I want to use even tho I’ve got a few yrs b4 I start teaching Highschool. We’re looking for a Christian Science program. I like that way of learning a language. I love how u cross referenced American history and American literature. Finding a course plan isn’t easy.
@simplejoyfilledliving3 жыл бұрын
It is harder putting it together yourself for sure. But I think sometimes it can be better. Students enjoy participating in selecting curriculum and resources sometimes and it can motivate them. We’ve enjoyed Dr. Shormann’s science.

I would love a video on how you use TGTB History for a High School history credit! My daughter just finished 9th grade after 1st semester in CC Challenge 1, then 2nd semester at home. Since there was a lot of focus on American documents, etc. in CC, we finished out the year with a variety of sources/textbooks for her American History credit. We are trying to decide what to do for World History though. We've looked at Notgrass, Master Books, and TGTB. She is using and enjoying TGTB High School LA Year 1, so that's had me thinking about TGTB more, but I'm not sure how to make it work the way the 4 levels are organized. I am also having her look at the World History samples from Master Books new revised color edition. Thanks for another great video!

@@simplejoyfilledliving we LOVED Notgrass. Very colorful and great for middle school and high(didn’t use for younger years). It can be used for History, Bible and Literature. A few pages of reading with questions at the end. Bible led which we loved.

I enjoyed hearing about Katie's 10th grade year. I'm years away from having one in highschool. We started out with CC too, but after four years in a community, we pulled out for this year and I don't see us going back. I like having the freedom to choose my curriculum for my kids like you've done with Katie. Katie is such a good student! Enjoy your summer break Katie after a job well done with your sophomore year! Also - about TGTB. I've heard so many conflicting opinions about TGTB, especially in the Christian homeschool community. What is your take on this having used the history and being very strong Christians?
@simplejoyfilledliving4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, it is true that some people have decided not to use TG&TB because Jenny Phillips is a Mormon. Here's my take: I have seen nothing at all in anything that we have used in history, math, language arts, handwriting, or science so far that has anything Mormon in it. And if I ever do see anything like that, I will mention it on my channel. Let me explain it like this: TG&TB is a very 10,000 ft view of Christianity, taking no stand on anything related to doctrine. It is basically God created the world, He created us in His image, be kind, Jesus loves you. It focuses more on good moral values than anything else. Very unlike Master Books and Abeka, where you can expect a come to Jesus message periodically. So there's nothing that I find offensive but at the same time I also do not feel that it covers Bible really at all. So if you want to cover Bible, you'd need to add something else. And that is what we do. Also I should add that the editors of TG&TB are from mainstream denominations to make sure that there is no Mormon doctrine in the books. She does that on purpose because she wants to appeal to the Christian community and she knows that we do not want Mormon doctrine in our textbooks.

Our Blessed Life I really appreciate this feedback knowing you have a strong Christian faith. TGTB is “too much” for my kids and my style of homeschool but I was very curious today after this video about your opinions of this debate 😀 You explained what is in the curriculum so well! My kids are not academically minded, so we stick to the basics for the required subjects, and do a lot of life skills and interest led learning. If they were like me we would be doing things differently, but they are much more like their dad. Good with computers and the technological sciences, with a lot of common sense, and just enough imagination not to be boring 😉

That's great! I love how we can tailor the education to exactly what fits our students in homeschooling! Katie is also interested in computer science and wants to learn web design, so we are thinking about adding that for second semester or for her senior year.

hello, what curriculum has katie used for high school ? my 9th grader is tired of EIW, and she has done IEW's intensive writing level A when she was younger, and a themed writing notebook from IEW, and now we are stuck on what writing program to do now. she is currently doing TGTB HSLA1 and will be doing HSLA2 in the fall. she is a strong writer, but doesn't enjoy writing. any ideas?
