We use Dimensions very similarly, i never assign it all. And use the extra work for days when extra practice is needed. Lol your right those "challenging word problems" are NO joke!

Great video, thank you for sharing! What is that book with the US geography with the blank boxes for writing and the stickers?

Forgive me if you have already addressed this in another video but other than the lego club that you are not currently attending I didn't see socialization opportunities on your schedule. Is that something that is regularly scheduled or do you just try to get all actual school work finished by around noon to have the afternoon available to attend social events as they come up? That is our biggest juggle this year. My oldest expressed his need to have more social opportunities and finding a balance between getting the school work done and plenty of socialization has been an interesting balancing act. Between social events and regularly scheduled appointments throughout the week it is hard to really get a consistent schedule down but it is something I strive to improve on over the next few months.

We attend a Co Op on Fridays. It usually goes for about 3 hrs and it includes built in free time so the kids can just play. She also has a friend that lives next door. When she gets home from school in the afternoon they often hangout. That’s one of the reasons I prefer getting school done by 1pm. Occasionally I will adjust if the public school has early release or on break, but we mainly stick to the done by 1pm schedule. Something I am having trouble with though is finding social opportunities for her as she is getting older. Most homeschoolers in my area send their kids back to public or private school starting in middle school. So I’m trying to troubleshoot that now as I perceive it will be a problem in the future.

@@michellegf the trend of sending them back to school is pretty popular around here too. All the co-ops around here are religious based so we haven't joined one. One of the local libraries has a homeschool book club that we attend once a week and I started a Minecraft club that meets twice a month. Minecraft club especially has given my oldest the friends he was looking for so much. It has required me to get out of my comfort zone and take the lead and to learn how to do things I have never done but it has been worth it for the friendships he is creating.

I'm not sure if this has been asked before but do you think you will homeschool through high-school or the upper elementary grades 7-8?

Great question! As of now I do plan on continuing homeschool for middle school and high school. I’ve started to really start researching and prepping for that right now. With that being said all my children do have the option of returning to public school if that’s what they want. Every year we assess how things went and the plan for the next year and they have an opportunity to express their opinions on it. As of right now my daughter doesn’t want to return to public school.

I'm trying to choose between Lightning Literature level 4 and level 5. I like the booklist for level 4, but I don't want it to be too easy for my will be 6th grader (who will be doing more of a 5th grade year). Did your daughter notice a big jump in difficulty between the two levels?

The amount of daily reading increases. Level 4 broke the reading down by page number and 5 breaks it down by chapters. Grammar and comprehension were pretty similar to grade 4. 5 builds upon what was taught in previous levels, but it’s not required to know ahead of time.

@@michellegf thank you! That is so helpful. I didn't notice the amount of reading difference when I looked at the samples. I think I'm going to go with 4. 😊

Hi Michelle - which level of IEW did your daughter in 5th grade finish?

My 5th grader used Wonders of Science. I think the Ancient History one would work great for 5th grade too.
