What else??? Let’s have a discussion! Some of you have said you WERE that child who walked away or who struggled….. what could your parents do that might have changed things?

this is why we go to our Christian homeschool conference bc it’s amazing how much support, relatable conversations, and ideas you can garner from “older” more experienced homeschool parents who have been here! seriously knowing that we aren’t the only ones with “issues” always gives hope. that’s what the Bible is full of. imperfect people who had issues, but through God, overcame. to God be the Glory!

I already commented but also want to comment here and say I rebelled despite growing up going to church. I craved attention from my dad and mom and needed mkre affection and one on one time. Also hobbies as a family would have gone so far with me. We did things but only during summers. Throughout the schoolyear I was stressed about school and making friends and fitting in I totally lost sight of what was important. I wish my parents had shown affection towards each other...held hands hugging happily or going on dates. I don't know it is a tough question.

I tell my kids so often that in this house we will serve the Lord but there will come a day when they are going to have to choose for themselves who they will serve. I tell them that it is their choice and I will be powerless to make them choose to follow Christ. All we can do is be faithful to lead them to Christ while they are under our roof. The rest is God’s work and between them and God and there is some relief in that. I loved that quote about actions speaking louder than words! When we mess up as parents it does provide an opportunity to ask forgiveness from our children which is such a picture of the Gospel to our kids!

She’s sharing conversations with me that she’s had with some of her friends, and I’m starting to see some encouraging spiritual fruit!!! So there truly is “NO GREATER JOY” than to know that my children walk in truth. And hopefully, they WILL choose to serve God!! 💕

"Are they really doing something wrong, or are they just doing some differently than how you would do it." ---> WHEW... that one hit me and something I remind myself of so often. My mom was always trying to conform me to HER idea of who I should be.... it made me so angry, and I held a lot of resentment towards her because of it. I wasn't doing anything WRONG... I was just taking a different approach. I have a daughter now who is very different from me, but she has a beautiful heart for the Lord! I constantly remind myself of this! I want to do things differently than my mom did.

Love these videos! Thank you for these. ❤ We have been unable to find a church in our area that is solid biblically. So much compromise it's ridiculous. We left our last church because we felt led to. 😞 So we keep fellowship with other believers through small groups and here at home, until the Lord leads us to a new church.

That’s so tough!!!! That’s actually how my own church got started, although my grandfather was an evangelist too! When he left, several families went with him! I hope you find a church soon!! It can be really discouraging, I know! When I was in high school, we lived and hour and half away from our church! (Yes, that’s how far we drove every Sunday!!!) but for Wednesday nights, it was a bit much. So we searched for a church to worship in and it was discouraging! After almost a year of visiting so many churches, we finally found one with solid teaching. Another of my viewers said they found their church from a directory provided by John MacArthur’s ministry. He has some sort of directory of churches across the country. They might be of those whose pastors graduated from his seminary. My own church is not on that directory and I think we’ve inquired about it. So I’m not sure what their qualifications are. Bob Jones also has a directory of churches they recommend. 😉

You’re welcome!!! These are hard things to consider, and I think sometimes when we’re going through difficult challenges, we feel like we’re the only ones “failing.” But this is so much more common, in so many, than we realize! The body of Christ is full of fallible people who fail again and again. And yet, those are the ones he works through. Why? Because then he can get all the glory! He chooses the show his power through our weakness, and that includes our humility. ☺️💕

I worry about churches not actually teaching things correctly and accurately (history of the churches doesn't help this lol we just talked about William Tyndale, too). This made me think of Matthew 18:20 "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." I still need instruction and help understanding things, but I research and pray God leads me to the truth.

Churches aren’t perfect. And you can know if they are teaching truth by being a Berean. “Now these people were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.” Acts 17:11 But I don’t think church should be avoided bc it’s fallible. Men are fallible. But the scripture is not. And nearly the entire New Testament is letters to the churches….instructions to churches…including the order of how the church should be set up and operated (preacher, teachers, etc). Not all are called to be pastors…..therefore we need to be under one. Now there are false teachers out there. But the Bible says, “you’ll know them by their fruit!” Do they lift up the Word of God or themselves? Do they REVERENCE the Word…meaning do they encourage you to not take their word for it but study the scripture on your own? Are the services centered around the scripture or around a “topic?” With little scripture in it. There are many churches who focus way more on entertainment than actually teaching the scripture which is the #1 thing it should be doing. You can learn more about the scripture yourself with a good study Bible. Study Bibles are “teachers,” they aren’t preachers. But they will cross reference supporting verses to help explain a scripture. Scripture interprets scripture. Scriptures not open to “what it means to me.” I recommend the John MacArthur study Bible. If you’re KJV, the Scofield study Bible is great (if they still make it). And there’s also the “ESV study Bible” that is solid! Another way that helps me understand scripture in my own studies, I’ll look up commentaries! There are certainly preachers I know and trust today (like MacArthur). But I also look for old time commentaries like Spurgeon or Matthew Henry. 😉

What denomination are you? Great insight❤ I grew up Baptist Christian and then went to a Nazerene church. I am a mom to 4 kids and my husband and I raise our children non denominatio. We most relate with Westlyan and Babtist but we are mostly concerned for relationship with Jesus and we are not strict, but we have our family rules and try to be good role models to our children. I had some roufh teen years despite groeing up going to church every week. My issue was relationship with my parents. I wanted time with my mom and dad, and they havnt been the best role models in their marriage. I dont think I ever saw them flirt or hold hands or snuggle on the couch happily. My husband and I make it a point to hold hands and be a team and make things light hearted and fun. We dont want to be rigid or strict. That only turns kids away. I love this because every one always says to the parent it is the child and you are always right. That is impossible. My mom lives by that and does have her favorites. I hardly talk to her because of mental issues but I like the fact that you are reminding us that we are to be held accountable. My kids aren’t allowed in sports teams. In this areas they don’t want parents involved starting at the age of 4 which I wasn’t comfortable with plus the kids in the sports have potty mouths. We are looking for a new church. Our current church isn’t keeping up with staff for children. I am missing out on church to watch mine as well as every other child. Other churches around here have no kids. I need prayer. When I was a kid we had a church that had sports teams. It is what I want for my kids.

It really is. When I was in high school, we lived quite a ways away from our home church. (We actually drove and hour and half to church on Sundays!! But for Wednesday night , it was a bit much. So we found a Wednesday night church more locally.) when we started attending, The pastor said that Sundays are packed. And then Wednesdays have less people, but still a solid showing. But this is what was really sad….he said in the summertime, Wednesday attendance is cut in half bc of summer baseball and activities. That seemed so odd to us bc in our church. We pretty much have the same crowd on Wednesday nights as we do on Sunday morning. It’s just odd to me how parents can’t see what they’re teaching when they do this.

You and MomDelights are the only homeschool moms on here I've come across (thus far) to talk about this stuff quite like this and I am SO thankful for it. We have a pretty good marriage and our children are doing fairly well, but it could be better. I could certainly be a better wife and mother. (Couldn't we all lol) We went to church and Christian schools growing up and whatnot but it sure didn't feel like a God-fearing atmosphere. I had Joan Crawford for a mother (my dad wasn't any better but I'm not here to air out dirty laundry...only mentioning my parents to make a point) so I've tried to emulate friends' mothers in the past with my children because that's what I wished I had growing up. Loving, nuturing, all that good stuff. In the last 5-6 years, however, I've been diving into His Word to figure out how God wants me to wife and mother. It makes so much sense once you start looking at it. It's so much more than just being loving and nurturing. I know I've said it a few times now but I just have to thank you again, Rachel, for doing this. For talking about hard topics, for being vulnerable, for sharing your faith, for everything, really. I wish I could hug you lol PS- I know the Paul Washer sermon you're talking about towards the beginning of this. I binged a ton of his stuff last year and took notes. Mind-blowing Biblical concepts I had NEVER heard talked about before. Not at church, not at school, and certainly never at home.

So ironic that you mention Mom Delights bc I’ve been binging all her McGuffey videos! 😂 Paul Washer always provokes me!! The Lord has really used him to make me think differently. And I have to say that my church is pretty n’sync with most of the things he teaches. It’s just that sometimes we never thought of “IT” like that. Same with Voddie! You’re very welcome! I’m simply sharing what’s on my mind. I told my husband I didn’t think this video would do very well bc I honestly don’t think most Christian’s want to be challenged. The sports idolotry, I’m sure, made some people click out of the video. Maybe even “unsubscribe”. But I told him I don’t care. I need to make videos about things I’m passionate about or that provoke me. I don’t just want to be a homeschool “How To” channel bc in the end, it’s not about school. It’s about God! I’m truly thankful for those of you who appreciate this kind of content. You keep me thinking too! 😉❤️

@OurHOMEschoolPlan You had me chuckling with the sports, actually. I've seen people wear jerseys to church lol Totally off-topic but I've been dealing with a LOT of moms insisting I don't have to spend x amount of hours homeschooling and that I can do it in just 2 hours a day. I've tried explaining that I've got multiple children and that they require very specific one-on-one attention for certain subjects. I've also mentioned what my former state says you have to do as far as subjects and hours. (We moved to a very lenient state recently but I am not changing how we do things.) They brush it off as just another rule you don't have to follow. They also say learning is more than the classroom and count cooking as science and shopping as math. They're not exactly wrong but it's rather disingenuous to me. I've tried saying that there's no one size fits all to homeschool, that we all pick and chose which rules to follow or break, and that I'm not judging how they do it...I'm just saying in response to them (who are the ones who start it) that it doesn't work for us to do it the way they do. They get so nasty towards me for choosing to spend as much time teaching my children (funnily enough, the same age range as yours) as I do and I don't understand it. Have you ever experienced this? Any advice on how to handle the Judgey Janets aside from just politely walking away from the conversation? I can't be the only one struggling with this...
