I live in NC and homeschooled for many, many years 3 kids. 2/3 went to college with youngest just graduating this month. The oldest went into military (instead of college). They are all mature, young adults and doing well in life. I can tell your daughters are very mature for their ages as well, especially Katie who is KIST LIKE YOU. You're doing a great job. Thanks for the video as it will help many. I still watch your homeschool videos (and give them a thumbs up) to help with your channel BECAUSE I really enjoy your family and y'all's lifestyle. Your very calming to watch. Lol. I like calm, as I am calm too. I appreciate that you take prayer requests. You have a heart for ppl. Keep up the good work!

Thank you so much for your videos. I love that Katie is so bright and taking actual rigorous courses in high school. You're so thoughtful and intentional for all you do with their schooling. I homeschooled through second and am now pulling my twins out of public school for sixth. We are all nervous and excited to homeschool through high school! Thank you for your content!

This was so helpful! We just moved back to South Carolina after being gone but have homeschooled in two other states. I was really nervous because SC has a lot more requirements but your video was able to relieve my anxiety. Thank you so much!

I think this is a great idea! I live in a state that does not require anything other than a "declaration of intent" each year. HOWEVER, I am really wondering with the CDC requirements that came out for public schools and more parents saying they want to homeschool, if all states will put the hammer down on homeschooling families in the future. We may all find ourselves having to make portfolios to "prove" that our kiddos are learning. This is a great video to reference! **Could you do another Homeschool Planet walkthrough for how to print credit hours, grades, etc? Also, if you wanted to make a video as you set up Homeschool Planet for the upcoming year, I am sure many of us would find it helpful!!!! :) Your videos are so well done!

I don’t think much good is going to come to the homeschooling community from the pandemic school experience that public school families had this year. Yes on Homeschool Planet. I was thinking about a video on transcripts for high school using HP as well as how I set up Katie’s year. Would that help?
@amberc.28404 жыл бұрын
@@simplejoyfilledliving That would be awesome! I was on Homeschool Planet yesterday and I had your video pulled up from where you planned Sophie's science...but I could not, for the life, of me figure out how to schedule TGAB's high school LA units. I'm sure it's "user error" over here, but I'd love to see how you do it!!! // Also, last night I went on a walk with my daughter (13, about to enter 9th grade), and she likes the idea of making a portfolio. I think, for her, it is a way to showcase her best work. I am so glad you did that video -- even for us who don't "have" to do it, because it is a way to help our kiddos see value in what they have done all year. ((I have always kept everything...so this would also allow me to pare down my homeschool storage!))

Thank you for this. Exactly what I was looking for. I am in California, about to start homeschooling for the first time with my fifth grader, fourth grader and kindergartner. Thank you! (I totally agree about the box dump not being my style either; but my very organized records for 1 year filled a box for my 2 girls! I threw away very little.) This video was incredibly helpful! I am also from SC, and I feel more confident now about putting together my 3rd portfolio year. I am going to try your continuous portfolio for next year! We use TGTB for language arts also, so I am glad to see how you save the high school units.

Out of curiosity has anyone from the education world ever asked to see a portfolio? Just wondering if anyone ever looks at them? We also homeschool in SC so this video has been very helpful!
@simplejoyfilledliving2 жыл бұрын
I’ve never had any issues with anyone requesting. I think it’s far more likely to be done if there’s a DSS issue or if you transfer your student to a public or private school. And in some cases, colleges also request certain documentation. Definitely important to keep it but not very likely to be needed.

This was a timely video! I just love your channel! This year I am doing a "family portfolio". I'll have tabs for our family subjects and put sample work in there from each child & then tabs for each child for individual subjects like LA & Math. I hope this works. Last year I got to thinking that having a portfolio for every child x4 children is going to take up my whole attic one day. haha. I'm thinking the family portfolio will work until my oldest is in highschool (she is going into 5th). I love the way you have organized especially Katie's highschool portfolios. Thanks for this video. It gave me some good tips for this process.

You could just keep a spreadsheet or you could keep a calendar documenting days snd hours, then print it off and add it to that section at the end of the year.

This was so informative and clear! Thank you so much! For digital records, do you think you could get by without much hard copy saved doing it that way? Would it be acceptable to just scan in papers to save digitally? We may move long distance while schooling and I would rather not accumulate large binders.

You probably could. I know you can here in SC. Check with your state to be sure.

Really love that system! Thanks for sharing about how you keep track of everything. Do you print your homeschool planet planner and put that in their binder. Or can you just keep the years online?

I print them and add to the binder but really I don't need to because they are always there. I do like the idea of pulling out the portfolio and everything being in one place though.

I know this video is from last year but I hope you see this comment...are your records being requested or required for her to pursue scholarships, testing placement etc.? Meaning - is the next level of accolades accepting this information?
@simplejoyfilledliving3 жыл бұрын
In my state we are required by law to keep these records. The state might request to see them, but usually not. Sometimes in the college acceptance process some of the information will be requested.
