Some tips with the reusable notebook. Don’t use the frixon eraser on it. It will leave an odd film. That is difficult to write over. If you want to use the eraser, I suggest using the fixion markers instead. I find I like the smoothness of the markers over the pens in my reusable notebooks.

I hadn't thought about the erasers. Thanks for the tip. The film would annoy me. I have been using this little book more than I thought. It's in my purse right now with notes all over it.

I'm sure you love paper and notebooks (so did I!), but just in case this is helpful for your travels... I switched to using my iPad, an apple pen, and Goodnotes... you can import pdfs into it (teachers manuals, canva pages). It is so streamlined, and writing on the screen doesn't feel weird (although i use a paper feel screen protector). I was surprised I liked it so much.

I've been thinking about that -- I only recently switched to apple stuff -- last year for the videos. I was hoping not to bring an iPad with us at all for travel. Maybe doing Morgan's French class on zoom with my iPhone? I've tried off and on to use electronics for note taking but keep mentally needing to be able to FLIP pages manually when I want to reference something quickly. I think it's a mental change I need to make. As an X-Gener, I'm usually pretty good with either old school styles or high tech but this is a real hold out for me!

Yes! Fern is our new addition. She won't be as big as Buddy (he's 130lbs) but she is only half her size now. She is small!

OMGosh, I remember pouring alcohol all over the kitchen counter trying to get it into the tiny hole at the top of the goopy white-out bottle to thin it back out so I could use it. I mean, at least when you tip the bottle over on the table, it doesn't spill!

I just recently found your channel and I am intrigued. I have been homeschooling for 10 years now, but I am always fascinated by what other people do as well. I pick up little things here and there, so its fun! Plus, I love anything office/school supply. I love jetpens as well, although I haven't ordered from them before. I am interested in the fountain pen concept. What do you find is the difference or so special about a fountain pen compared to just regular pens? I love the concept but have always been so scared to try them because they look quite intimidating.

I've never had anyone ask me what the difference is between a fountain pen and regular pens so I actually had to think about that for a sec. Such a simple question I've never before considered! Here goes: 1) When I get a good fountain pen and match it to the right paper, there is a smoothness from the tip that makes my handwriting look so much nicer 2) You can switch out colours. And there are amazing colours out there 3) Once you find your pen, it's your pen. You never throw it away. You always have the casing and it's important to you 4) There are different nibs you can use according to how you like to write, so you can really personalise fountain pens 5) Many, many people use them outside the U.S. and Great Britain so as an American, they can be a great talking point and opening into conversation 6) If you like them, you can collect a few and get into the different types of ink with refillable cartridges 7) There is very little waste, especially if you have a pen that has a refillable option, not just cartridges 8) You might buy a fountain pen for $35 but you won't ever need to buy another if you keep yours well. So in the long run there is also less clutter on your desk and less to throw away. Years ago, I had finally decided to buy a really nice one. I still use it and when I looked up purchasing another, I discovered mine was retired and was a collectors item, considerably increased in price if bought used. I don't think that is a pro or a con but it's an interesting piece of knowledge. Actually, because of the price, I ended up purchasing a cheap one for myself for school and now feel more like I should protect the one I have always used! Still, the best fountain pen I ever had cost $3 from Carrefour supermarket in France. I lost it and am forever sad I no longer have it!!! I just went to Barnes and was super surprised to see fountain pens there. I bought a double pack of Ooly fountain pens for Morgan and I to try. They are super cheap, and the company is woman owned. They write ok... mine is a bit scratchy and the nib is quite fine, but Morg's blue writes smoother. Every single fountain pen is different. The scratchiness could frustrate you and make you not like fountain pens... but to start, I would really watch JetPens fountain pen videos and people's KZbin reviews of pens. If you are near a pen dealer in a city or upscale mall, you can go there and try ALL their pens without buying one -- the $50 pens all the way up to high end for fun. It's a great way to try multiples without purchasing. Hope this helps!

@@ThePattersonHomeschoolAcademy Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience! I am fascinated by the idea that it’s “your pen”. I think the ability to just use one pen for life is worth the investment to try. Although like you said, research and then giving it some time. For me, to begin the journey, I would choose one on the cheaper end. I have watched some KZbin videos about them and it seems the kaweco and the pilot metropolitan are beginner friendly. Would you ever consider doing a video on your fountain pen(s) and experiences you’ve had? I have three boys and only one of them really cares about their penmanship, so it’s a struggle. However, I do have one son who is very interested in the idea of fountain pens and has actually asked me for a year or more for one. With being so intimidated by them, my answer has always been no, but I may have to do more research. That might be a Christmas present idea for him. Thank you for sharing!

@@hollyl7150 I can certainly do a video on it. Maybe I will show our first day at school and Morgan setting up her Kaweco and then a quick tutorial.

Thank you!! 😁 It's super fun to be back. I'm glad I breaked for Summer though. I think it staves off KZbin burnout for me. But I'm doing the regular tempo of things again now. Happy homeschooling!

We bought a hand crank robot pencil sharpener at the target dollar spot. We like it we have an electric one but my kids want to sharpen pencils to end.

I wanted to buy one of those old-school green wall mounted pencil sharpeners but I would want to nail it down to the dining table and I guess that would be weird... 😊

LOL! A lot of the newer things I haven't had before came from JetPens.com. They have great KZbin videos and a super good website. Good prices. BUT... I went to Barnes yesterday and was amazed they have picked up a LOT of cool Japanese stationary and you can find a lot there. But for selection and price, JetPens was great. Also, Etsy, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Wal-Mart, Target, our university bookstore & Amazon. But way less Target. I was getting kind of sick of being issued the same stuff year after year. I love target but not so much their stationary anymore.
