Got to spend my 46 birthday backstage with Gregg Allman, my friend told him it was my birthday and he said tonight is on me , brought a bottle of Tequila, and proceeded to get me so drunk I had to leave my motorcycle and be driven home. He is such a great guy and treats people like family. Uncle Larry style.

For a minute I thought we had a HomeSkoolin' substitute teacher and we could just screw around the whole time until the bell rang. Oh wait, I guess that's what we always do. We didn't even have to watch a film strip.

Hapzpy birthday young man. I'll be turning 69 in just a few days and you as well as our uncle keep me inspired. Thought I would have more money at this point in life and hoped my guitar skills would be better. Anyway you Nashville folks still give me hope. Great lessons for any age. THANKS.

Happy Birthday, Guthrie! Wonderful picking on both of those wartime D-28s. That first ‘43 herringbone has the tone from the heavens. Pure 3D swirl, big warm, pillowy perfection! The wartime Martins are my favorite the responsiveness and warm, enveloping sound.

That’s exactly what I was thinking! A treasure like that deserves a master who can play it like Guthrie, who can coax the magic out of it. I was born in ‘49, so that gem is older than me! It needs to be loved, and listened to, and appreciated by the best musicians in the business. 🥰👍

I don't know if I'ved lived the life I thought I might, but I have played the cards I was dealt pretty well. I am quite blessed to be where I am today and it was nothing I ever planned. The one thing I would tell my 19 year old self is, all actions/decisions have consiquences and they come in different forms. Some are financial, some relational, some spiritual, some mental, and some physical - so seek to make wise decisions because some consiquences may not be realized for months, years, or decades. Finally, pay special attention to those decisions that can change your life in an instant.

Happy birthday Guthrie 46! your only starting :) I also had the honour of playing that guitar and I agree with everything you, Tom and George have said about it, its more than a guitar its one of thee guitars, still get chills thinking of the few days we had in Nashville, and a shout out to Greg Vorus who took my nephew and myself in to the holy grail where this guitar sits. Once again Happy Birthday and have a good one with the guys. take care.
Uncle Larry, always the good influence. Happy birthday, GT! In the discussion of time travel, I kept thinking of what a great place you both are today. So happy for you!

In the early 90's we had 2 "Bone's", one '39 and one '43 in the store...they went for around 15K in 1993...the '43 ruined me for life and I chased that sound in countless reissues and other older Martins until my dream came true when I finally ran into the right deal on my '38 Bone!

Uncle Larry takes the concept even further when he says that sometimes "the guitar plays me". Makes total sense. For less than stellar instruments, take what it gives you. Don't fight it. Find the sweet spots and make it sound good. The really good (next level) guitars sound better and are easier to play. Then you have more freedom to make music.
