Flies quite nice... 5:09... Had the same problem with my 2 meter Phoenix 2000 until I programmed the ESC for Motor Braking... Talk about coincidence... I'm actually in the process of building up (assembling) a Volantex ASW-28 like yours...

I know you're busy doing all sorts of stuff, but i'd love you doing some openIPC long range combined with ELRS, or DJI if you're looking into getting fancy stuff. The landscapes around you're home are stellar. It would be a great video. Just you cruising along the hills and the trees. The new dji seems a great gopro/fpv combo, kinda expensive, but damn it would look good ! :)

Lovely plane again! Talking of glide ratio, it actually doesnt change when wing loading is increased. The optimal L/D is just at a higher speed, full size sailplanes ballast up with over 100 liters of water when the thermals are strong, to get a the glide polar cruve shift to higher speed. You can usually see 2 graphs for sailplane polar, 1 unloaded and 1 fully ballasted where the min sink is higher but also the speed at best glide can be 20% higher retaining the same glide ratio. So maybe cg needs to move a bit, or you might be flying it a little on the slow side to get the best glide. Keep it up, enyoing the video's very much!

Yeah I forgot about that. If I put a flight controller on this sometime, it might be interesting to do some experiments at different weights.

If you covered this is white film or found a way to gel coat the outside it would be super slippery and it would be much more efficient through the air. It’s still cool so well done. I have a similar set up with a fibreglass asw-28 with a folding prop extender. Yours is nice but having a clean surface for airflow over the top of the wing should never be underestimated in terms of efficiency. Also fit some tips to shed the leading edge vortices smoothly.

in final tuning ive alwase found a coupling of CG vrs tip wash out....start pushing cg back till tip stall , then add wash out to the tips... push it back a litte more add more washout.... theres a fine point where you can get better performance without loosing streight line endurance..
@iforce2d
@iforce2d 15 күн бұрын
Sounds like it would work, but 'add washout' is easier said than done :)

Have you thought of putting powerfilm on one of your planes to make them fly longer? This plane could be a great candidate
@iforce2d
@iforce2d 8 күн бұрын
Sounds very expensive. I think the plane would have to be designed from the ground up for that purpose, it's not likely to be something you could slap on afterward.
@Sandeepr2
@Sandeepr2 8 күн бұрын
@iforce2d right, it has to be integrated from scratch while building the wings. What's the avg power (in watt) requirements for this glider?

Do the prop blades swing out due to centrifugal forces and return by spring force ?
@iforce2d
@iforce2d 15 күн бұрын
They swing out from centrifugal force and return by airflow/drag. But the airflow will also keep them spinning if going fast enough, so they don't fold back until under a certain speed. The ESC is braked but that doesn't guarantee it stops, especially with only 2S power and a large prop

Please do put up the video on the other plane. What like about your channel is that you don't do reviews persay, it's more your thoughts on a plane, design or project that interest me. Your thought process is very similar to mine and I find that your insights help me when designing or working on similar projects. Like the bit in this video where you were talking about the gap around the hinges causing drag, I knew to avoid it but now I also know what sound to look out for. For what it's worth you may be able to smoothen over the gap with packing tape stuck to itself and then taped down onto the leading edge of the hinge, it'll likely lay flat over the gap and reduce the drag without you having to cut out the hinges and redo them

It can also get poor glide ratio with high aspect low wing loading because it flys too slow.

It seems like the spinning props makes it lose speed quickly, try using an ESC that is capable of breaking, that will make the props close quickly. Gorgeous plane though!

If you are still considering making me a plane design, I was wanting something based on the miles libuella, but with the canards all flying but designed as a flying wing pivoted on the cg so they will hold a constant angle of attack not constant pitch with servo input. Let me know how much you want.

My ASW28 rolls like a pig, so I have full span ailerons just to fly normally.
@iforce2d
@iforce2d 15 күн бұрын
Yeah it's been a while since I flew one so maybe my memory is not so good and they're always really sluggish. The first time I flew this one though, I had the aileron servos travel at about 2/3 of the range and I almost crashed it right away because there was basically no roll control.

hi iforce2d, what difference is between tax payer and slave?
@russcole5685
@russcole5685 16 күн бұрын
What has that got to do with this channel
@iforce2d
@iforce2d 15 күн бұрын
A taxpayer can choose their form of labor, and has some possibility to evade collection. Taxpayer can also practice legal avoidance to reduce their burden, can stop labor completely if supported by others, and can move to a different domicile. Slave usually implies none of these options.
