Laser cut wood for jigs seems so handy. Thanks for sharing another build.

I did pink foam in 1986. I had a cutoff wire that do 4 feet (1219 mm) per wing. I build gliders. I build the wings so that they would fly directly off the assembly. No RC, no nothing! I build tailless and triangler airplanes, big! Triangler 8 feet wide and 4 feet long with the 4 feet tail. Then tailless was 8 feet wide, 2 feet long at the middle, and 1 1/2 feet long at the ends. Each one had -8 instended at the end of the wing!

I intended to make this comment on one of your earlier builds... About fifty years ago (Jeez I'm getting old, that was probably before you were born!) I lost a canopy in flight; we never found it. No such thing as Neodymium magnets; I used spring clips. From that time on, I added a 100mm length of fishing line from the fuselage to the front of the canopy, "Just in case". 😜

I really enjoy your builds, they are well thought out and they fly really nicely once completed. Now having a glider, especially where you live, surely will be a lot of fun to fly. All the best, enjoy your get together over the next week. Cheers 👍💪✌

Gorilla glue is moisture-catalyzed. The problem isn't that it "dries out" it's that it absorbs humidity and cures. Inside a bag with a dessicant is probably helpful

With the knauf foam no longer being sold the main substitutes that I have been able to find are the blue xps at place makers and goldfoam from compositenz but both are like double the price that knauf used to be.

the little dip in the nose and tail does help with streamlining but it doesn't need to be as big of a cross sectional area as you mentioned because no passenger.

The fuselage drooping down is also to better match the flow around the wing.

CNC is a lot of work to set up and run, and I had never tried laser cut airfoil templates.

I think it would be called NACA3314. In OpenVSP, set the airfoil type to FOUR_SERIES and set: T/C: 0.14 Camber: 0.033 CamberLoc: 0.33 There is no great calculation here, it's only slightly different from a ClarkY and is basically the same as I've used for all my other planes, just a bit thicker due to being so long. Usually I would use a 11-13% thickness/chord ratio. iforce2d.net/tmp/Selection_360.png

For the servos on lighter builds I always buy the expensive emax ES9052MD (or similar), in any other case I'll buy El cheapo 9g or or cheapest 9g metal equivalent. But if you are going to spend time glassing in stuff that might strip the gears, it will make you regret that decision.

@iforce2d 13 күн бұрын
I added at the bottom here: www.iforce2d.net/sketches/stackedSlices/ Keep in mind it hasn't flown yet. This method of shaping the fuselage was quite some work, not sure if I would do it that way again. Some of the lasercut part files are not up yet, I'll do that when I reboot this computer into windows, check again in a day or two.

I have had a few plays at using the open aircraft design software that you used to use. Could I pay you to do a simple aircraft design for me?
@iforce2d
@iforce2d 13 күн бұрын
If you mean setting up an airframe in OpenVSP that will probably fly ok without any consideration for how it might be built, that wouldn't be too hard. But the CAD design of actual parts that can be produced and assembled is another story altogether.

@ Thanks. I’m doing pretty good so far. Mr hey taught me to walk, to stand up and working on breathing properly. I’m still trying to learn to ride a bike again. I’m not too bad with the cad cam stuff, but only what I used to know I can remember some basic stuff but can’t Learn. I’m still struggling with reading and writing. Much beyond Facebook comments are just impossible.

I love the build! Just maybe do away with the rear magnet ?,and glue a tiny lip or dowel under the rear of the canopy that slides inside the fuselage. That way you only need the front magnets?
