In today’s Flog... I answer 10 questions about the Homestead Festival that you sent in... ranging from "will we get to meet Temple Grandin?" to "what activities are there for our kids to do? And of course, a question that lots of folks have been asking, "why are tickets to the festival so expensive?" I go through each question and do my best to respond to them all, one by one.
I hope you'll take the time to watch today's video, as I've also included a funny story that happened recently with Indy at the beginning...
-----
We're right at half-way through our 30-day FLOG countdown to the festival (sharing a new one daily, as best we can)… as we share our journey preparing our first Homestead Festival on June 3rd and 4th here at our farm. We hope you'll join us.
You can check out the full schedule, lineup, and get your festival passes at www.thehomeste...
----------------------------
The Homestead Festival, a first-of-its-kind outdoor event, will make its debut on June 3-4, 2022 at Rory Feek's 100-acre historic farm in Columbia, Tennessee. Combining music and meaning, the two-day affair features musical performances, including headliner Kevin Costner & Modern West, as well as masterclass lectures by prominent homesteading community leaders such as Dr. Temple Grandin, Joel Salatin, Justin Rhodes, and many others.
In addition to Costner and his band making a rare stop on their Tales From Yellowstone 2 tour, the musical lineup on the main stage also includes The Isaacs, Jimmy Fortune, and the Brotherly Love project (Bradley Walker, Mike Rogers, Jimmy Fortune, and Ben Isaacs), as well as other bands on a smaller stage.
“We are all, of course, over-the-moon excited to have Mr. Costner and his band coming to join us for the event. But the truth is, we are just as excited to have all the incredible performers and speakers that are taking the time from their busy lives to come to Tennessee and share their knowledge and skills with individuals and families who too will be coming from all over to take part in this special weekend,” says GRAMMY-winning artist and New York Times best-selling author Rory Feek.
“The format for that Friday and Saturday will be homesteading classes and lectures throughout the day and music on the main stage in the evenings as the sun sets,” Rory continues. “Multiple tents here on the grounds will host simultaneous speakers sharing their vast experience of learning to be more self-sustaining and living closer to the land, which I think are very important things that aren’t being passed down to future generations the way they used to be, especially with the struggles we are all facing in the world today. People are interested in learning the skills and information that can help them provide for their families in these challenging times and also add meaning and joy to their lives.”
Homesteading lectures and classes at the festival will vary from growing and preserving your own food, to keeping bees or baby chicks, to home birth and home-schooling. Attendees will also be able to explore and shop at the Homestead Marketplace, featuring over 100 vendors, skilled artisans, local food trucks, and a demonstration area showcasing a variety of homesteading arts and crafts like woodworkers, blacksmiths, gardening experts, flower farmers, artists, and many more.
HISTORY OF THE HOMESTEAD FESTIVAL:
From 2008 to 2013, Rory Feek and his wife Joey held their annual Bib & Buckle Fest, where thousands of fans from all over attended outdoor concerts on the front lawn of their historic farm. This will be the first time Rory has brought outdoor music to his homestead since then.
Since Joey’s passing in 2016, Rory has expanded the farm adding more rotational-grazed pastures for cows and chickens, a one-room schoolhouse with a barnyard and livestock, multiple gardens, a greenhouse, and continued to host concerts on the farm in his 300-seat venue known as Homestead Hall. All of this is in an effort to be more sustainable for his large extended family who live, work, and teach on the farm.

Priceless Priceless story about 'What the H--LL?" Reminds me of a Sunday School song from the last century when I was in attendance - "Oh, be careful, little tongue, what you say, Oh, be careful, little tongue, what you say. There’s a Father up above looking down in tender love, Oh, be careful, little tongue, what you say." Thank you for sharing this gem even when the 'shame shame finger' pointed back to you :-). I think Your 10 questions and answers were handled so entertainingly and informative. May the Good Lord bless you with a grand and safe time for all.

That’s hilarious about Indy!! What a doll baby she is!! The homestead gathering is well worth the price of the tickets. Just look at the lineup!! And, the venue alone is fabulous!! The things they will be learning has no monetary value! It’s priceless! I wish I could come!! ♥️🙏🏼♥️

@Judy Abernathy, I totally agree with all you've said. Indiana is so Precious and is growing in all ways STRONG! She is, as is her Papa, an wonderful Teacher. As for the ticket price.... it is indeed priceless! The wealth of information being shared on so many truly beneficial topics by such knowledgeable people is absolutely incredible. For many folks attending, considering doing any one of the topics available, this will actually be saving them money... because I'm sure they will be learning what NOT to do by folks who, in their early days, have already made the mistakes! God does not waste our experiences, HE uses them to teach others. Yes, I, too wish I would be able to attend and would gladly pay the ticket price. One needs only to prioritize what's important to them to determine if the cost is "worth it". Years ago I gave up (significantly cut down, lol) coffee house coffees setting the funds aside to reach my event goal, using money I had already planned to spend... just re-prioritizing how I'd spend it. It was well worth it, plus I got a bit healthier along the way. LOL. Judy, God Bless you and Keep you Safe in HIS Loving Embrace. Have a Great rest of the week, Awesome weekend and a FANTASTIC week ahead. OH... as I read over this before sending I saw the title (almost) of a Joey & Rory song *That's Important to Me* so I had to go take a listen to it. It is sooo good. God Bless!

@@jddo3298 - Thank you for your reply! I absolutely agree! Nice that you were able to deal with the coffee issue and reroute that money for your future! If we “be still and listen” God will always show us what to do. But, when things are going too fast out in the world, we often lose our way. That’s the time to get somewhere very quiet and let God talk to us. Blessings to you always! ♥️🙏🏼♥️BTW, I like the song, as well. It was their theme song on their TV show. Sure miss Joey. They were an incredible team!!

I was there last year at the first HOA conference at your farm and it was a great learning experience for us. I was even standing there talking to Mikel when you came over and the idea was sparked. You were talking with Mikel about having this concert/festival. I even told Mikel he had a year to work on his music again so he could sing there. So excited to see how that spark has turned into reality. Will be a great time for anyone who attends.

I laughed so hard. Since you shared a story of your Precious Little Indy. I thought I, I would share one with you. It was. Many years ago. Our family was gathered at our Hospital. My Mom was having surgery. I was a young Mother. We all sat in the Main wait room until the Surgery was complete and the Nursing staff would come to say surgery was over and we could go back to see my Mom. I was so nervous and it was the first time since becoming a Mom that I would have in tow a 2-year-old. Who was a bundle of energy? With nothing to do other than his books a toy tractor and a few fruit loops to bribe him to settle down. Well, we had our local Preacher there. All that morning I had been trying to engage with the little time. Yet my child did not want anything to due with him. He was a boy coming between my Dad, my Sister several Aunts. He was so cute with his little denim overalls with bus bright little shirt underneath. At first, it began as a kind of game as our preachers children were all grown up. So I guess he was trying to connect with him. So as he ran by to his Papa my Dad. The My preacher went in for a sweep to grab his overall straps. He missed. So he did this several times. We were all kinda nervous and on the edge who likes hospitals right. So on the last attempt. Managed to grab it. My Sons overall straps. When he did it caused my 2-year-old to fall he wasn't hurt at that age they bounce up in a nanosecond. Well, my child turned his little head with his curly blonde hair and said. Leave me alone damnit. I almost went thru the floor. I was like where on earth did he get that from. Embarrassed I looked at my Dad with a red face. Who said don't look at me. So I asked my Son where in the world did you near that kind of talk. He looked me square in the eye and said. My Daddy, I was like when and he replied. The other day when we went to town. I didn't know what to say. I looked again towards Daddy my Hero to rescue me. He looked at me and said. Well Baby girl me has swiped again and again at him. He even. Told him when you were in the ladies' room to stop and leave him alone. So now I guess he knows that he doesn't want him to be grabbed by the straps of his overalls. I can't blame him! Can you? Well needless to say. I was embarrassed. Yet I learned that children near everything. From songs to others' talk. Thankfully my Mom's surgery went well and I could go home. It transpires when we least expect it. Have an awesome day. Wishing you and everyone who has worked so hard to get the festival going. I can't go this year however I hope I can have another chance next year. Be blessed.

I remember the first day you walked to school by yourself. Your Papa posted a video as he hid behind the tree so you didn't see him. Indiana you are a beautiful young girl and I am so proud of you. You are so smart too. God is so happy with you sweet heart. Much Love to you and your family. I was laughing so hard Papa when Indiana said that. The innocents of the child makes us realize that so many things we take so seriously are just simply not worth getting upset over. She said it as innocently as you sang it in the song. Don't worry. I'm sure God was giggling too.

That is a cute story about Indy 🥰. I’m sure she is such a blessing. I would love to attend with my 70 year old husband but with our physical and financial limitations I just don’t know if we will be able. I have severe spinal and nerve damage and just don’t know if I could stand and walk that much. I’ve gardened and canned over 40 years but there is a lot more I could learn and would love to hear and meet Melissa Norris and Brotherly Love is my husband’s favorite group. We love hearing their gospel songs. I’m sure the festival will be wonderful. God bless🥰

The festival is a BARGAIN! The best take home value of anything I've ever seen. I so wish I could be there! I would pay double that amount or more just to tell you what a great value I think it is. Folks think about what you are paying to go see a concert these days! Or theme parks ($1,000/day -- or more -- for a family of four!). The Homestead Festival is way mo'betta! So wish I could be there! Maybe next year. God willing and the crick don't rise!

This is the first I've heard of the festival. I have a homestead in New Mexico. We had a great milestone today. We got our mower going. We have had so much rain the weeds are 5 feet high. Never mowed this place before but we did today! Tall weeds make for a lot of places rattlesnakes can hide. I'm looking for people to get together with about homesteading, homestead skills, prepping, off grid living, and fellowship in Jesus Christ.

Good times. Praying that it all goes planned to God's will. Don't forget to pray with everyone in the beginning and end of each day. Be nice to have Kevin Costner pray on his day. I know Joey will be singing and praying from heaven, listen closely you will hear her. So very happy to see your happiness and giving back to the world. BTW did you ever use that cast iron corn bread pan that I left at your gate a few years ago. Hope you get some drone footage for your vlogs. Hug Indy for us she is a precious light to your world. Make sure everyone stays cool and hydrated. Have fun!!!!

Hope this goes well for you but one note..I would allow drinks but none in glass bottles... Any glass bottles can break and getting it all up is hard...we learned the hard way at a local event and glass bottles were banned...blessings to you and yours...

My husband and I reaaallyy wanted to come this year, but I didn’t realize the dates until a couple of weeks ago, so we cannot make it 😔. But next year… we are going to do our best to make it!!! With the day and age we live in, we want to be as prepared to take care of ourselves as we can ♥️. Thank you for opening your space and for having the vision to make this happen🙃

I so wanted to do this but at 72 and on a fixed income from social security it would cost half of my check, then the cost of gas from central Alabama and money to stay and eat I would have nothing left out of my $1200. Wish next year you can make it so people like me can enjoy your event. I am so sad

Rory, just got back to upstate NY from the festival. My wife and I and our two daughters attended from beginning to end and talked a lot on the way back on what we liked and what we thought might be improved upon. Will you be seeking this type of input from attendees?

Rory, I very much wanted to attend but unfortunately, I have family coming into town for my grand niece's 1st birthday and I simply can't miss that. I would still like to make a donation to help with cost. How can I do that? I also learned that you have been friends for 30 years with a great friend of mine (you have recorded in his studio in Nashville going back to the days you were making demos [IMI]).
